Can you tell me a little about the Tropicana?

During our recent trip, we ended up gambling 2-3 hours a day at the Tropicana (stayed at the Monte Carlo this trip). The casino was quieter than many of the other strip casinos, a plus for us. My wife enjoyed playing the slots there and I enjoyed the $5min blackjack table during the weekdays ($10min during the weekend). All staff we encountered were pleasant and helpful. Drink service was excellent. We ate twice at the Beach Cafe and were very pleased both times. We’re definitely thinking of staying there for a portion of our next trip.

For those of you have stayed at the Tropicana:
    • Which rooms do you suggest? (Being close to the pool is not a priority of ours; stayed in a strip view room at MC)
    • Do offers come out in the spring and fall?
    • Are the offers similar to the ones you receive from Mlife?

Please feel free to share any other thoughts you may have about staying/playing the Tropicana. Thank you for your replies.

I stayed at the Tropicana during the NCAA tournament this year. I stayed in the Club Tower suite and it was very nice. Living room, seperate king bedroom, mini fridge that is completely empty ( not filled with a mini bar), two sinks separated from the bathroom/walk in shower. It is a little ways of a walk back to the tower but nothing that I didn't mind. Other tower is closer to the casino. As for offers, I am a Hilton diamond member and just booked the best rate for their lowest room then contacted the casino through email and got an automatic upgrade to the suite complimentary. I didn't play enough in their casino to get offers so I can't help you there. If you go over to flyertalk.com/forum they have a great thread going regarding Tropicana Las Vegas in the Hhonors section of the hotel rewards programs.

We stayed at the Tropicana for 1 night because it was a last minute decision to come to Vegas 1 day earlier than planned (for Super Bowl 2012). I think I might have gotten the Trop from Hotwire.

We received a club room which was a pretty long walk from the casino. I think it is called the Paradise Tower that is closest to casino. The room itself was great. Clearly everything was new and updated. It was very clean. I thought it smelled good too. Tropical and clean. (As opposed to Flamingo which smells like a tropical sewer.)

We played some then and went back 6 months later for a little while. Never even saw a cocktail waitress, much less got a drink.

It is now affiliated with a national chain hotel (can't remember which) so I am not sure if that hurts or helps getting comps there.

We always stay at the Tropicana. I love it for many of the reasons you stated. Plus getting to your room is MUCH easier and faster than at some of the other hotel (ahem, Venetian).

My favorite room is the Spa suite but that one doesn't have a Strip view. We have also stayed in the Penthouse loft. I do like that one, but when hubby is awake in the morning I can hear him in the living room because the bedroom is right above it.

We tend to get offers year round. My host is great and emails us at least once a month to let us know of any tournaments etc.

As for comps, we get treated better at the Trop than at MGM. One of the reasons we switched was we went from Pearl to Gold at MGM in a few days and we still weren't getting room comps. Our offers were $29 a night at NYNY, stuff like that. At the Trop we get a free suite, our host offers us the limo for pick up at the airport, Freeplay and some F/B comps.

I haven't looked back since switching. I know my opinion of the Trop isn't the popular one on this board, but I'm willing to bet if you stay there you won't regret it.

I'm another person who always stays at the Trop. It's my home around home. I go at least twice a year and my reasons are different from others is that I really do not gamble much. I go for the pool. I love the pool at the Trop. I always also stay in the paradise tower. Now even though I don't gamble much they treat me very well. The beds are very comfy, the staff is pretty amazing and it's just a great place to stay.

They're affiliated with DoubleTree (part of Hilton) now. I doubt it'll affect comps much; my understanding is that it's mostly for linking up their reservation systems, like Cosmopolitan with Marriott.
