I'm going to Vegas for a wedding Nov 12. Trying to decide between these two hotels both are $38 a night. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks
Well...Flamingo has a better pool. But I don't think that'll matter for November. OK, seriously...both aren't bad, they have good location, generally the same amenities. For Harrah's, it used to be a Holiday Inn way back in the day, and in my opinion the rooms seem like Holiday Inn rooms. Flamingo rooms are a bit roomier, but I have heard some people complain about the condition of the rooms at Flamingo. It's been years since I've stayed at Flamingo, so maybe someone else can chime in on the condition of the rooms there. Flamingo seems to have a bit younger crowd, along with the Margaritaville casino. Harrah's is a bit more laid back, and seems to die earlier in the night than Flamingo. There's two items to consider, hopefully this helps. I'm sure others will chime in with additional info for you.
Ah...thought of another one: If you're a fan of the monorail, then I'd go Harrah's; it's a shorter walk to the Harrah's station than the Flamingo station.
In the winter, I would personally go with Harrah's since I feel like there is more to do in the property itself with the Piano Bar/Carnival Court and Toby Keith's. In the summer Flamingo all the way
I like the casino and GO rooms at Flamingo better. Harrahs has a nicer basic room and its not as crowded. I'd pick flamingo because it just has more character to it. I'd you'll spend more time trying to relax look into a GO Room at flamingo or choose Harrahs IMO
Solid advice, not much at all in Flamingo other than the pool, which wont help you. Harrah's has great entertainment.
I say the same as a few others. Flamingo in the Spring/Summer pool weather and Harrah's winter/fall. The classic rooms at Harrah's are ok just like the FAB rooms at Flamingo. I would stay at a Harrah's Premium room over a Flamingo FAB room any day (well minus the pool season) I don't think you can go wrong with either of them. I did the $20 trick at Harrah's for the Premium room from Classic.
Harrah's neighbors are Casino Royale, Venetian, Mirage, and the Quad. Flamingo's neighbors are Construction, Construction, and Caesars.
I've only stayed in a Go Room so I can't comment on any of the other rooms, but I'd choose Flamingo just based on the casino alone. I haven't stayed at Harrah's but the few times I've been in the casino I just haven't cared for it.
Harrahs or Flamingo Before I moved to Vegas I stayed at Flamingo. The pool, hot tub area are real nice, a couple of new nice bars have been built, they have tennis courts in the back plus one of the best buffets on the strip, plus they have the cool lagoon area with fish, penguins and other animals. The other thing you got to look at is how you are getting around and where you might go. Venetian and Mirage are right near Harrahs, the Flamingo has Bally's, Paris, Bellagio and Caesars within 100 yards.
How far is flamingo from the mirage? Staring at flamingo in July and will be going to 1oak inside mirage Saturday night
I stayed in a Harrah's Jr suite a couple months ago. The room was fine but the gaming was terrible. I spent time at Harrah's and the Quad. If you play blackjack don't expect to find a table with people that actually know basic strategy. It's tolerable if they are nice, but Harrah's was stocked with drunk and belligerent 20 year olds. They actually complained I was playing poorly because I wasn't winning my bets. Thankfully, I spent the first 2 nights of my trip downtown. Poop for luck but the gambling is so much more enjoyable there. Something to consider if you are at all interested in low limit gambling.
Have stayed in both Prefer Harrahs rooms, hands down. As we are typically comped, we most often stay there or Ballys. The standard rooms are NOT like the Flamingo FAB rooms, but definitely nicer. A 20 something friend on a tight budget was NOT impressed with her Flamingo FAB room & neither were we (though we have stayed all over the strip, so our expectations may be higher) Flamingo hallways had disgusting cleanliness issues that were not resolved for days (if at all); even DH said he would NEVER stay there again. He would rather stay in dated Ballys south tower over updated Flamingo GO room, he was so grossed out. (and this is a man who only cleans when asked...) Some corrections...neither buffet is very good; both mediocre at best. (neither would be considered "one of best on strip" by anyone's standards.) "neighbors/"... Harrahs is between Quad & Casino Royale, with Mirage a quick walk across the street. Flamingo is between OSheas & Bills (both closed), so Quad & Ballys. Caesars is across the street, but a significant trek to get there. (a LARGE property)
Listen, I really enjoy the casino at the Flamingo. It is my favorite "low stakes" place and I find myself having a blast there every trip. Having said that, I would never stay there again. On the other hand, I was pleasantly surprised with the room that I had at Harrahs. Don't get me wrong, it was not anything great, but it was clean, the hallways were clean, and the service was solid. Having said that, I will never gamble there again. Time and time again I have found myself having a terrible time there. I've never had any luck and can't remember having even a somewhat personable dealer. So in short, if I had to stay at one or the other, it would be Harrah's but I would gamble somewhere else for sure.
