Anyone stayed at New York New York lately? I got an offer for 3 comped nights in a deluxe room and $100 freeplay (and some piddly resort credit amount). I have never stayed or played there. Just past through it briefly using the walkways between MGM and Excalibur. I was wondering what it is like, as in casino vibe, food quality, etc. I am not a High Roller, so $5 and $10 dollar tables are more my speed, along with an occasional slot machine. I would be there during the week if I go.
I like NYNY. The rooms are small, but clean. There are good food options like Nine Fine Irishmen and great pizza in the food court area. No buffet. We stayed there in April and my partner was able to find $5 or $10 BJ (6/5 though, I think) and really enjoyed how upbeat the dealer and table was. This was during the weekend, so may be a little quieter during the week. The VP paytables at the Central Bar aren't the best unless you're playing $1 level, but it's a great place to sit and have a drink while playing VP and watching all the activity. Where do you normally play? May be easier to judge if you'd like it there if we knew where you currently like to play.
Weekday the craps tables rarely go above $5 and you can find $10 BJ with good rules. Weekends, you're a short walk from Excal and their $5 tables. Food options are great, with even more options a short walk away at MC or MGM (food courts at both.) The vibe in the casino can be odd...the really high ceilings are a little weird, and the 'streets' can get a bit crowded around the edges. The bar in the center kind of breaks up the place, but it's also a good place for VP and drinks.
I've stayed there 3 times in the past 9 months. Rooms are average but clean, $5 tables (3 card, 4 card, let it ride, etc...) during the day, $10 at night. Good food options and I enjoy the "vibe" there. Pool is ok, good cocktail service.
I usually play the MGM properties, MC, Excalibur, MGM, Luxor and on rare occasions MB (Bellagio is out of my budget). The table games I like are 3 card, Crazy 4, LIR, the Hold'em variants and Caribbean Stud. Don't play much BJ and only dabble in VP.
As said, rooms are basic, but the place has it's own special vibe. Good place for lower limits. We really liked the Italian Restaurant right in the middle of the casino. Location of NYNY is great for that end of the strip.
Basic rooms are fine for me. I've had suites on a few occasions in the past. They were a nice change of pace, but not a requirement for me. And I do like Italian food.
I don't drink alcohol, but like an occasional soft drink or OJ. I hope I don't have much trouble there. Even with the soft drinks, I don't drink much at the tables because they go through me fast and I don't want to be running to the restroom every other hand.
I used to stay at NYNY and Monte Carlo in the 90's to 2002, so it's been awhile. But i have frequented the dining options more recently such as Il Fornaio and NY Pizzaria which are pretty good. The vibe varies (i only go Sun-Fri), but it's much better than Monte Carlo (IMO). I'm still waiting for my drink (Sprite) from 2002, so YMMV with the waitresses. If you prefer basic rooms at good prices at MGM properties, i think NYNY will suit your needs.
Drink service at the table games at NYNY is good. On the machines, because of the weird shape of the casino it would be easy to get in a hole where you didn't get service.
If you're looking for a drink at the table or machine, it doesn't matter if it's alcohol or not. It solely depends on the waitress and how much she is assigned to serve. But this last trip, I concur to the terrible service at NYNY. Partly because my CW found some friends of hers and literally talked to them for over 10 minutes while I stared at her from a distance and bled more of my money away 35c at a time. Eventually I got up from my machine, asked for my drink and didn't tip her. Most people still did though. I wish Vegas had self-serve soft drink machines, would make life easier. Edit: Mike says table game service is better. It wouldn't shock me; it usually is in many Vegas casinos.
Nyny I like nyny, ive stayed in a spa room which was kind of bland, but it had a lot of space. Does anyone have any info on the pool area? Ill be there in August and was wondering if the renovations Ive heard about are complete Thanks!
My opinion only, but i love it there. Ive stayed there probably my last 20 times. Have a good hostess, like the rooms (mid-level suites i get), have had some great luck on the slot machines there. I think the America restaurant is the best breakfast in LV prior to a day off boozing, and i really like the food court. So yes, i think you'd enjoy it. Plus there is a monorail stop across the street at MGM, and i really enjoy the Monte Carlo, which is a 5 minute walk away.
+1 on the drink service. At least for me, i get beers faster than i can drink em, tipping a buck a round.
Love the place in the winter months but always go to places that actually care about their pool during the summer... MH
Obviously I dont remember any of them by name, however i have noticed in the last couple trips that NYNY cocktail waitresses definitely fit into that "throw a nice tip early and they will be around plenty" category.
NYNY was the first place I stayed when I went to Vegas for the first time in October 2009. I stayed in the cheapest room they had. Ended up being non smoking on the 26th floor facing the west. I liked it there. I have now been to Vegas quite a few times since then. But I always manage to go gamble there. I remember my first time there, I gambled at the wheel of fortune (big huge one where everyone sits around). I put in $1 and won $775! Talk about great first time in Vegas!. I went back not long ago and the machine is now gone. The rooms are clean, service was great, great places to eat and decent gambling tables.
I agree completely about the restaurant America, I'll venture over from Planet Hollywood for breakfast at America. I always swing by to play some blackjack too, they have 1 table that is playable... 25$, 3-2, etc. Friendly pit bosses and dealers usually make for a pleasant visit. If it weren't for the pool, I'd probably stay more frequently, as it is, we usually only stay at NYNY between November and March. Enjoy!
