Vegas Fight Weekend in September

Hello folks. Well, I booked a trip to Vegas in August but it looks like I'm going to change to September.

Ok, the Alvarez-Mayweather fight falls on my Bday weekend and I have the urge to go since I've never been to Vegas on a fight weekend. I also like the idea of spending the Mexican holiday there as I hear that it gets pretty good.

Questions, how crazy does it get there on fight weekend? Is there a chance that the hotels will overbook and I'll lose my room? (Prob staying at the Palazzo) Is it difficult getting a table at a restaurant? How hard is it getting into the clubs? Will it be difficult getting to the MGM Grand from the Palazzo on fight night? Will the sportsbooks at other casinos be showing the fight?

I know it's a lot of questions but I appreciate the help again.

 

I'll start and others can jump in.

You won't have an issue with your room. Prices may be up slightly for a busy weekend, but you won't get bumped. And way down at P/V complex you might not even notice that there's a fight.

The MGM will be a zoo. Getting there by cab will take a lot longer than normal. One fight night it took me half an hour to get to MGM from Monte Carlo by cab. But it was July, and I wasn't walking.

Restaurants inside of MGM will be packed, but they will honor your reservation if you've got one. I had a reservation at Craft on a concert night and they were turning people away at the door, but I had a reservation and they seated me right on time. So bottom line, make a reservation and make it early if you want to eat there.

 

The MGM itself will be a complete madhouse. Other MGM properties may also be busier than normal. You shouldn't have any problem at V/P at all since they are not affiliated with the fight.

 

If you want to get to MGM by taxi on the night of the fight I'd probably take one to either NYNY or Tropicana and walk to MGM Grand - there can be a big line up of limos, cabs and cars at the MGM Grand entrance on a busy night.

For watching the fight: its pretty unlikely that you will be able to watch the fight in a sportsbook or anywhere for free. The different MGM properties will probably have viewing parties where you can watch it.

As for busy: that whole area (MGM Grand, Tropicana, NYNY, Excalibur and Luxor) will all be a little busy before the fight and a lot busy after the fight... otherwise you will hardly notice anywhere else on The Strip.
