How strong is the glass in the windows of the hotels? I'm sure people must have fallen against them when drunk before now? Would they survive you charging intro them at full pelt?

If the window fails from someone running into it full tilt:nono: The fall will not kill them, just the sudden stop.

In my opinion, if this is a concern, make sure you dont stay at Cosmo or some place with balconies. Also, most windows have seating in front of them.

In terms of running at them at full speed, you cant stop stupid.....

It's not a concern, just a curiosity based whimsical question.

Do they use safety glass? Surely people have had sex against them etc etc.

They MUST be pretty strong. Otherwise you would be hearing about people going through them and the resulting sudden stops when they hit the ground. And then due to lawsuits, there would steel bars keeping additional idiots from going through them.

Garry Hoy (1955 – 9 July 1993) was a lawyer for the law firm of Holden Day Wilson in Toronto. He is best known for the circumstances of his death; in an attempt to prove to a group of prospective articling students that the glass in the Toronto-Dominion Centre was unbreakable, he threw himself through a glass wall on the 24th story and fell to his death after the window frame gave way.

LOL - I wonder, in the short time that he had to consider it, if he was pleased to note that the glass didn't actually break but instead an unforeseen structural failing got him in his present pickle.

What makes it doubly stupid is that he had an engineering degree. You'd have thought that somewhere along the way he would have questioned the structural integrity of window glue.

Some girl fell out a window at the W in ATL either last summer or the one before that on her birthday. Don't do something dumb near them.

Sharkey tossed a bad guy through a window of a penthouse suite at the Westin Peachtree Plaza in Atlanta in the 1981 movie "Sharkey's Machine."

Which brings up another question.. and forgive me if this has already been answered on another thread,

Why do most hotel rooms in Las Vegas not have a balcony or a window that opens fully?

I always thought it was to prevent suicide from people losing all of their money gambling?

High rise buildings that are centrally operated generally don't. My understanding (which is mainly based on guesswork if I'm honest) is that it is a combination of:

    a) Increasing air conditioning bills exponentially
    b) It gets windy high up
    c) It would cost more to engineer in balconies on every floor and doesn't look that pretty.

To be honest, I was laughing as I typed it and thought about it.

There is absolutely nothing funny about someone being killed, but it is morbidly comical to think about.

Stayed at the Luxor once, will not again due to this. Not window related but walking back to your room drunk and swaying a lot could end up with you dying.
