We are going to be in Vegas late July/early August, coming out for the One Direction concert.......
We always stay at The Orleans, been loyal patrons for ten years, so we will be there for 5 nights. However .....we recently got an email from Mirage for two free nights ---- we are thinking of staying there, just to "say we stayed there"
I have never spent $1 gambling there, only there to see Love show, and eat a couple of times.....
I'm hoping y'all can give us some info on rooms, casino, pool, etc...
    Thanks!

I stayed there once, but have spent significant time in their casino during all my 6 visits. It's one of my favorites in Vegas, mainly because it's not pretentious, yet not dumpy. It provides a clean, friendly, kinda upscale but not too much, and cheerful environment.

The rooms are smaller than many other standard rooms, but well appointed. I think they were upgraded around 2010. The windows are not floor to ceiling so it feels even more cramped this way, but this doesn't impact the comfort of the beds/pillows. Also, there was a nice table and chair in my room and I needed to work there for one day, so it was very comfortable for me.

Casino is large, a little bit labyrinth-like, but fun. Low ceilings and dark colors are the downsides, but it's almost always packed with people, who seem to be having fun. You'll find lots of recent and old-favorite slots, and a wide selection of reel and video slots. Also there are many low-roller ($10, sometimes even $5) and high-roller tables. Blackjack rules are classic MGM rules and they're the best on the strip. Just beware of the 6:5 single deck blackjack.

It's connected to TI via tram and easy commute to Venetian/Palazzo. It has a Starbucks inside the property, where you can use your express comps, so it's pretty convenient after some slot play. Across the street from the Mirage, there is Panda Express and McD, if you want some cheap eats. Inside Mirage, buffet is above average, there's a nice burger place, a famous deli place, a CPK and some other upscale restaurants. Food prices at Mirage are usually criticized but you are very close to other alternatives, and if you like more, Caesar's Forum Shops is next door after a little bit hike.

Pool is above average. It's nothing like Mandalay Bay, but it's good enough for many people. As far as I remember it gets a lot of wind though. They also have an ultra pool, called Bare, where there are pool parties and ladies are top-optional. There is an entry fee though.

I think it's a place that anyone might like, that's the beauty. Some people want upscale, some people want friendliness, some want casual atmosphere and you can somewhat find it all at Mirage. Enjoy your visit!

    I'll add a little bit.

BJ minimums are never getting below $10, and on the $10 tables, watch out for the 4 or 5 that have automatic shufflers...you can find ones that don't with the same rules. At $25 and up you get the great rules.

VP, they have 9-6 DDB at $1. You have to look around, because they also have 9-5.

There are no quick eats in the place. The carnegie deli is horrible, and that's the closest they've got.

The rooms are very much like eksantrik described. They do have superb beds and pillows, and the stuff you get in the room is pretty nice too. The bathrooms are a bit small.

Although we also happen to like Carnegie Deli, especially for breakfast, it is certainly not a place that falls under the quick eats category. Also not an easy place to eat a light meal. The only real option for a quick snack at Mirage is the coffee stand on the way to the pool area.

I had a salami sandwich that was literally an inch of salami slapped on two pieces of bread. I couldn't even bite it.

So I guess we can agree to disagree. I didn't try the pastrami -- maybe it's just what I ordered that wasn't good. My brother's BLT was okay, but not good for the money he spent.

The CSM and automatic shufflers are two different things. With the CSM they continually feed the discards back into the machine (i.e. continuous). The automatic shuffler is the one where they use two different shoes of cards and the machines shuffles one while the dealer deals from the other one out of a shoe. Then swaps them at the end.

As 44inarow said the CSM is slightly favorable to the player if you're not counting. Its negligible but I've had good luck on those tables. The automatic shufflers don't change anything odds wise whether you're counting or not. Its just a way to speed up the game. I'm not a fan of them, but mostly just for aesthetic reasons.

As far as Carnegie Deli goes I agree with mike. I'm also from NY and my office up until last year was a block away from the original Carnegie Deli and none of us ever even thought of getting lunch from there. Personally I think the average deli in the city makes better sandwiches than Carnegie which has just become a tourist spot know for its ginormous portions....which I guess fits in well with Vegas.

Just being in the center of the Strip will give you a different experience than usual, of course, but if your free room is a standard room at the Mirage, you may not find it to be much different than your usual accommodations at Orleans. The basic rooms at the Mirage are nicely enough appointed, but, as others have said, the bathroom is pretty small and there's only the one rather-small window.

Free is free, of course, but I think your chance of feeling like you did something special is much better in a suite. If you call casino marketing, they might upgrade your booking to a suite for a nominal charge, particularly if they see you as Vegas regulars who could be enticed to stay there again. We've been able to upgrade a comped basic room in the past for about $30-40 per night. (If the Mirage nights are weekdays, your chances of a low-cost upgrade are better.)

I hate to mention it ... but you said you never gambled there and they sent your 2 free nights? I'd make sure to call and confirm the reservation.

I am not a fan of CSMs either, for the reason of "preferential feeding". When I played CSM games at MGM props, sometimes I noticed the dealer tending to feed the cards immediately after a 2-6 rich hand, while they wait a couple hands when they notice a 10-A rich hand. Some dealers don't pay attention, while some acted this way. Hence, they try to turn the odds slightly more in favor of the casino.

Also, I just don't trust a machine which is maintained by a company, who is paid by the casino that I'm playing against. Yes there are regulations etc, but I'd rather see the cards in front of me. For this reason, ASMs also don't look that trustworthy but it's much harder to avoid them.

The odds of my playing BJ at a table with a CSM, unless they are using Pinochle decks, are 0.
