1200 year old city discovered underwater

Yea, I know I'm a geek, but this is amazing stuff. Some great pictures!

It is a city shrouded in myth, swallowed by the Mediterranean Sea and buried in sand and mud for more than 1,200 years. But now archeologists are unearthing the mysteries of Heracleion, uncovering amazingly well-preserved artifacts that tell the story of a vibrant classical-era port.

Have you read David Gibbins (Fiction)? Archaeologist, diver, novelist. Fun stuff!

We watch all the Discovery/Science/NatGeo/Smithsonian channel shows on these things - I'm obsessed with archaeology! (though recognizing that archaeology is a lot more boring in real life than in a novel or Indiana Jones film)

Some of the technology they are able to use today to locate ruins - fascinating application of tech developed for so many other fields!
