Why do I go to Vegas?

To get away! Vegas isn’t just a destination, it is a frame of mind. It’s an oasis in a desert of reality. My wife and I don’t often get an opportunity to get away from our responsibilities, but when we do… we go to Vegas. We love to make plans for months before we go, just to ignore them and do whatever the hell we want to. We go because when we are there, we aren’t middle aged people walking through life just trying to get ahead; we are a couple of young kids tearing up the town without a care in the world.

In Vegas we don’t worry about money! I am cheap while there compared with many, but I come with plenty of cash to do the things I want to do, and I don’t try to keep a cent of it. We use it for whatever we feel like at the time (usually playing games). If things are going well, and they usually do at least 1 night, we treat ourselves to something special, something over the top for us. $200 champagne in the room, an extravagant dinner, whatever trips our fancy.

To many “our Vegas” may be tame or even boring… but in our minds were living life by the seat of our pants there. Of course drinks are involved, and the best part is most of them are “comped”! Yes, they give us drinks just for playing games we enjoy playing.

Each time we have been to Vegas we have had the opportunity to see a comedy show, and have never been disappointed by the talent. We usually see some adult themed show, and though it often doesn’t measure up to expectations… it always puts us in the mood to be just a bit naughtier. We have seen cirque’s, off Broadway, magic, lounge, and variety shows… not all great, but most were great ways to share some time with each other. Even the bad ones gave us something great to talk about after.

We have met interesting random people each time! One night we met a kid on his bachelor party and did shots with he and his “crew” until the sun came up. Another night we took turns on the pole in the stripper bar with an odd couple that wanted to mix things up, we were able to sneak away before things got too crazy. The list goes on and on, and each one as much fun as the last.

Another thing we love is as Frank once put it “I love to wake up in a city that doesn’t sleep”… well forget New York, I have been there a number of times and it doesn’t measure up to Vegas’ all nighters. Day blends into night and nights blend into day and other than the ticking clock of the enviable return to reality we don’t care! For a middle aged couple who sits in front of the tube to unwind, usually ready to pass out early in the real world, we often catch ourselves asking, what the hell is the sun doing up as we exit an establishment in Vegas. We are invigorated, rejuvenated, and intoxicated in Vegas. Cortez was searching too far south, the fountain of youth was hidden in the desert.

After reading the above, my wife agreed that I just about summed up our love for Vegas, but felt it would only be a half-truth if I didn’t mention the renewing of our relationship while in there. Our time in Vegas is one big date, filled with romance and shared moments that we will think back on for the rest of the year until we can go again. Of course it’s not all hugs and kisses; we have some hot moments as well! This is the best parts of Vegas!

So why do you go to Vegas?

Tough question but really it's not.

My girlfriend and I live in a frozen wasteland (not really but it seems like it at times) so the weather is a big draw for us, we just love the sun and the heat. Aside from that it's the vibe of Vegas, always something or whatever going on. Music is a very big part of our lives and Vegas offers top acts all year round.

We aren't the biggest gamblers so that really isn't a draw but the diversity is and OMG the real estate is insanely cheap. We will be back in Vegas mid July house hunting. If all goes well we will buy one and after that look into some more as rentals.

I guess to sum it up it's like you said. We are middle age but sure as hell don't feel that way when we are home in Vegas.

    For me it's simple.

Baccarat. That is about it. Because of unlimited free hands and I can play my own tables most of the time I am there. I sit down, play, reach my intended goal and disappear. Baccarat is the reason I am willing to torture myself dragging myself to JFK and endure that whole annoying process of getting to Vegas. Honestly I truly despise flying. Plus Vegas is one of those rare vacations that pay for itself. There is certainly a huge amount of distractions such as the eye candy, the blinky blink bright lights and the opulent over the top montrosity. Yet they don't matter to me as they are just that, distractions.

If the casinos in the East Coast has the same advantageous conditions as Vegas I wouldn't head to Vegas since that six hour plane ride and all the preparation is annoying.

Or.... once I figure out the other half/end which is how to play baccarat in diverging circumstances I don't have to worry about traveling since I am just going to move to Vegas. Yet right now things are work in progress.

Pretty much to gamble. Biloxi is close to where I live and it is fun, but nothing compares to Vegas when I have the gambling itch.:peace:

    Shifter,

I posted this in the other thread and was told that it did not follow the original intent of the thread which was to call out the primary reason you go to vegas.

Based on this responce to my post, I edited and started this one.

Cortés wasn't looking for the Fountain of Youth. That was Juan Ponce de Leon. Now Coronado and the Seven Cities of Cibola ... lol

Gambling, golf, food, to answer the question, though in a strange way we gamble very little, but if there was no gambling in Vegas ...

Hotels, Pool parties, Clubs and Restaurants. Very little gambling involved in my trips, although that's not the case with some of my regular counterparts.

I go to Vegas to get away from it all. If I'm alone I'll play a lot of poker, if I'm with a friend it's less poker. Either way, I also go to eat some nice meals, relax and spend a day in the desert.

Vegas meets both of our (wife and I) criteria. We enjoy going to all the nice restaurants, seeing a show, hitting the spa and doing some gaming. We are both comfortable splitting up for the day and then getting back together for dinner.

Plus, we both have high pressure jobs and because we are so comfortable Vegas, we are not stressed about the planning.

I go to Las Vegas to escape to a world that revolves around luxury, consumption, and stimulation, instead of responsibilities, routine, and boredom.

Obviously the real world isn't all routine and boredom - and when I return from Las Vegas, I usually appreciate the relative stability and peace of my daily life even more.

In Vegas, these are the kinds of things I like to do:

    - Fire it up in the high limit room, develop a rapport with a cool dealer and pit crew, maybe meet some other players, and try to win lots of money. Top flight drink service doesn't hurt either.

    - Eat at a top tier restaurant, never worrying for a second about the quality of what I'm about to have.

    - Smoke anywhere

    - Relax in the pool with my beautiful girlfriend, order fruity drinks with giant strawberries in them, light up another cigarette, look around and revel at the luxurious surroundings

    - Get buzzed hard to the point where I don't worry anymore and just want to go fire it up, either gambling, or talking to random people, or doing silly things, or laughing about random nothings - inside jokes for the future.

(A sidenote on that. The last time my girlfriend and I were at the Cosmo, it was around midnight on a Sat/Sun, and we were playing $50 double deck. A young man, probably early 20's, stumbles up to the table and throws his American Express card in front of the dealer. He stares blankly, expecting something to happen. The dealer looks at him, looks at us, looks back and him and proceeds to explain that she doesn't know what he wants, since they don't take credit card at the table. She tries reasoning with him; the pit boss comes over and tries reasoning with him; he isn't getting it. He's blacked out - his tape recorder is not recording at the moment. Eventually the pit boss basically yells at him to go away, or use an ATM...the guy looks like he's gonna get it. Then moments later, the pit boss walks away, and the kid wordlessly throws his Amex back on the table again, like nothing happened. My girlfriend and I burst out laughing. It's still funny. Where else but Vegas can that happen?)

It use to be to gamble since I do not gamble at all except in Las Vegas. I was one who got a kick out of seeing the themed hotels and a few of the opulent ones. Now Las Vegas has changed enough that my trips are getting farther apart. It's also because I personally have changed over the years as well. I'm more apt to stay put and spend time just at one location. I also look for a more sophisticated property where I stay. I enjoy a more relaxed quieter environment. No loud music blaring in the common areas or outside interfering with my sleep. I was never into the entertainment offerings of Las Vegas. When I did go, it was because of a group situation and not my own thing. I am now more inclined to go to a destination I have never been to, than keep repeating a trip to somewhere I have been.

I can gamble closer to home, which I also do, but unlike many who casino hop, I enjoy my entire vacation under one roof. It's sort of like a cruise ship without the bad food and waves. I go solo 90% of the time and never have to leave the hotel.

One ride (I'm in Vegas so of course it's a limo) ride from the airport and I can
-Eat at outstanding restaurants (a differnt one every night)
-Soak up the sun at fabulous pools
-Drink all day and all night
    -See an outstanding show
    -Gamble
    -Shop
    -Be pampered at a Spa
-Relax in the room looking a panoramic view
Three or four days later, limo back to airport.

The best part is most of the above is FREE!!!!There are so many different properties it's like a new vacation every time althought the same destination.

    Vegas represents everything I love.

Risk, adrenaline, relaxation, luxury, dining.....it is such a different world. Not only do I love to gamble but I also love to relax in nice hotel rooms. I like to shop from time to time and eat good food.......you can do anything in Vegas and it is one place you can completely reinvent yourself as a good buddy of mine put it as we got off the plane. We went shopping and all dressed completely different than we normally do and it turned out to be a really cool idea lol.

This is a tough question and it will be hard for me to pinpoint a specific reason but here goes.

When I first started going to Las Vegas in 2001. I wanted to escape the "normal" I liked that you could drop some spare change in a slot machine and maybe come out ahead in the deal with a nice hit. I liked that this could happen "at any time". Tho now it seems unless you're putting big bills in the machines....the casino doesn't want your business. This is evidenced by slot machines that have minimum bets of 40 cents a spin......worse than a single line at a quarter machine.

I liked the 24/7 availability of alcohol....tho when I go lately I don't drink much unless I'm with friends.

I started out going to vegas for 7 to 10 days at a time, and moving hotels every few days to get the best deals. Now if I stay longer than 3 days it's a miracle because 3 days is about all I can stand anymore. The strip and even downtown have become money pits where everything is available but at a cost.

I got my job in the airline industry because I loved going to Las Vegas so much and this was the perfect opportunity for me to spend more time there but I think I burnt myself out. 7 years into my job and I still non rev out to Vegas every couple of months or so. I think that it's the absolute cheapest vacation you can take where you may have an opportunity to recoup some of your costs if you are lucky.

Most of my trips I like to play a game where I try to make my trip as "free" as possible. This is by redeeming coupons, taking advantage of hotel/free play deals, food discounts, using public transportation, etc. etc. At the end of a day or two I count how much money I brought with me....how much money approximately was spent, and how much money I have left. Most times I have almost as much as I brought with me.

The thing is...my job will probably soon bring me to Las Vegas again but this time as a resident. I already don't frequent the strip very much. It's just too damn expensive. Even downtown is becoming that way and is often too crowded for my enjoyment. I hope that when I move there I still make the trek downtown every now and then for some fun. I'm sure I will alot at first but I bet that will subside.

I guess I go to vegas because it's something fun to do and it's better than sitting at home and doing nothing.

I go to Vegas to escape reality:evillaugh I don't have to be a wife, mom, caretaker of my mother and can just be myself of course with rules:wink2:.
I love to sit by the pool during the day, and party and gamble all night long. No one telling me to get up, no alarms sounding off, no child telling me she is hungry. Yep, it's my escape.
