    My Trip Report

The annual MMA Junkie gathering, the get together for all fans of the show, biggest week of the year when all the stops are pulled. This was our first chance ever to attend this due to work conflicting, really what kind of jerk holds inventory the Thurs and Friday before Memorial Day, my companys owner that who. But of course this TR is not all about just that, this is the VMB after all so there will be much Vegas related stuff as well.

We arrived Tuesday the 21st on a late non stop, easy flight with first row seating so off to a great start. We arrive at the luggage pick up with KLAS news team there and they interviewed me about the Moore, Ok. tornado, pretty cool but we were not in the room to see the news so I have no idea what they did air of it, but cool to be interviewed anyway. Which brings me to a quick point the outpouring of sympathy and genuine interest in the entire town was just wow, be it other tourists or locals all gave us sympathy and good thoughts and Vegas the previous day held a telethon which raised a quarter mill for the relief efforts. Great taxi ride with the cheapest ever fare to THEhotel, how the driver cut 4 bucks off the average I do not know but I tipped him that, we usually take a Limo from Mccarran but with the big Mall show in town all that was there were the bigger Limos and the taxi line was empty. We arrive at THEhotel and are hit by that great smell we have missed the last trips which were comped to Luxor, we had Luxor comps available but really if given the choice......yeah no brainer. The check in was empty so we went straight to the desk, but it was taking a Loooong time compared to usual, seems they did not have our exact room we booked available so we took a 2 queens room instead, hell it's comped so like I would bitch anyway, and it all was getting better. Since it took so long the girl comes back with a card for a $150 F&B comp at select places in MB, none of the top end but a good selection, we paid for only three meals the entire trip between that and the F&B we already had and MyVegas comps.

We arrive at the room and immediately notice it is a bigger room than the standard King is and lo and behold there is not just one but TWO closets and sets of drawers in the room, no crowding of clothes and laying out excess this trip. From there we head to use part of that 150 they had just given us and chose the Noodle Shop for a quick bite before we hit the floor. We chose the Dim sum Sampler and the Chicken Satay skewers, nothing spectacular but a great quick bite after the flight. This trip we had decided with all there was going on we would stick strictly to machines so as not to get held up on a table for hours as I had done before, that was a blessing and a curse both. MB as has been mentioned has new carpet down and they were finishing that up so many machines were down in one area so we hit back by the SE area to play some nickel and higher and immediately were off to a good start and up over 300 between some nice dollar pays on a Twin Win and .25 on a Cats 15 liner. One disappointment was many of our favs were gone replaced by many of the newer games with lower payouts, BOOOO :nono: Mandalay Bay for taking our Prophecy and African Storm games along with other classics.

While things started good at Luxor they went back, and went bad quick. We have had the best play at Luxor the last several trips but good grief Charlie Brown did you hire Okie slot managers since December. In a short time our 300 profit was gone along with another hundy so off we go. Luxor was that way for all 5 days BTW the only good hits we had were a $75 on a Monopoly and DW had a nice hit on the Vegas Quick Hits for over 220 but the losses were far greater and it was not just us it seemed and many were bitching, nodding heads and generally gnashing teeth. Back to MB for some VP where we managed to make a bit back with some nice play on a 10 Play JorB game, thanks God for VP this trip we usually do not play much but this trip we spent much time on VP games from 3 to 100 handers, not as good of comps some say but already have three night plus 100 resort and 150FP offer. Off to bed to get ready for the beginning of the Junkie Gathering in the morning.

    To be continued.........:wave::beer:

Wednesday. The beginning of THE Gathering for all friends and fam of the show we started the day with a great breakfast at THECafe on the comp, I had the free range hamd and eggs and DW had the pancakes

As usual great food and service, outside the arrogant hostess that is, she must be related to the owner or something as she has been there forever.

Off to the Sports Book at Mandalay for the start of the Gathering. Guests: Dennis Bermudez, Max Holloway, Stephen Thompson, Colton Smith, comedian Adam Hunter and Jeremy Fullerton. Bermudez had just won a controversial decision over my friend and gym mate Matt Grice so of course I could not resist goading him about a rematch if he lost, he was a great sport about it and really commended Matt. the fighters as usual were all great folks and Adam Hunter is funny as hell to say the least.

After the show we need a bit of rest as we were running on around 3 hours sleep the last 36 so off to the room we head for some shut eye.

Up again after a couple hours shut eye to recharge the battery with a few hours to burn so it's to lunch and a few hours on the floor before the nights festivities. We decided to save the rest of the 150 comp and head to RiRa which we had not been to since they opened and were not disappointed yet again. I had the Guinness Burger, very tasty with a nice Guinness BBQ sauce and prepped perfect medium and of course a Guinness to wash it down with. As you can see by the dark circles under me eyes it had been a rough night LOL.

Off we head to MB where while the drink service was greatly improved from last trip the slot play was horrid, getting harder to stay off the tables to say the least. We were down a quick 300 and decided to take a break at the pool as we had some hours to burn till the night activities for the gathering. The pool was not real packed, thank you weekday trip and we had a few drinks and rode the lazy river as we relaxed, much needed relaxing I must say after the previous few days back home.
The nights festivities were an MMA trivia night at a place called McMullens which is just West of the Orleans in a strip mall. Pro fighter Jeremy Fullerton and his manager were leaving at the same time in a stretch limo so we hooked up with them to ride in class :nworthy: I highly recommend the Irish nachos, an Irish twist on traditional nachos that works, with Homemade Potato Chips, Cheddar Cheese, Bacon, Tomatoes, Chives & Sour Cream and we added the beef as well a great deal and a meal that fills you up and works as a great alcohol sponge as well. My team finished 2nd but we feel the contest was rigged as we were deducted points twice after tally, blamed on the hottie waitress keeping scores mis tabulation of course :Þ

Me and pro fighter/pro wrassler and NCAA wrestling champ King Mo Lawal we both have a love for, MMA, Oklahoma State old school pro wrassling as I lived it and he is a major fan so we talked for quite some time about all three after the event was over.

After the trivia event we headed to Orleans for some play which was our first time there. Not too bad a place at all for a locals and honestly I would pick it over some of the lower level Strip Casinos. We had some good slot play there nothing huge but left up 70 after a couple of hours. Great cabbie to THEhotel and older guy who had lived in LV his whole life and had many storys to tell, to bad the ride was not longer, how often do you wish for a longer trip. When we arrived back at around 1:30 we hit the floor for some electronic craps where we did very well but not well enough to get back in the black, but a good session netting in 280 up when we headed back to the room at 3:30. Thursday was to OUR day but still would be up early enough to meet the crew at the Sports Book and discuss the previous nights enjoyment. Much to our surprise, we the oldest folks of the group were up later than those pups were, rookies :drunk:

OUR day is here, the radio show while stacked with guests like Dan Hardy is going to be skipped, but we still stopped by to say hi to all who were gathered for the show. Vegas has always been our get away from schedules, deadlines and rushing around, the last couple of days had been the opposite and Friday would be occupied by more, so we decided Thursday when the crew went to the Alliance gym we would skip, I train with pros so getting to watch another set practice was no big deal, not diminishing that team by any means :nono:. A nice breakfast to start the day at our all time favorite Verandah at the Four Seasons, peace and quiet from the hustle and bustle. What a great surrounding to start the day
    [IMG]
DW had the Healthy Start I had the American with bacon along with the great house juice of the day and the best coffe I ever had in a restaurant.

A quick stop by the studio and off to our next favorite hotel The Bellagio and then to Aria, time to have fun as well as redeem some MyVegas rewards. We made a quick stop at Monte Carlo on the way to the tram and as usual nothing good came from that, I swear that place is cursed for use never once have left winners from there. At Bellagio we had a pretty full days planned, the Art Gallery first, The Conservatory and then Petrossian as well as what has been our consistently 2nd best place for slot play on The Strip. Now I have never been a fan of Warhol, as Willem de Kooning said of him "You're a killer of art, you're a killer of beauty, and you're even a killer of laughter," . I had always felt the term genius used to often when speaking of him personally and found his art to be capitulation to consumerism, his Campbell Soup represents that best, who cares if you eat it every day :rolleyes2: . The exhibit left me no more enamored than I was before and actually left me wondering what really separates him as a genius while 1000s daily do the same with cell phones, Photoshop and a bit of imagination on the web. Merely altering others images and photographing then silk screening celebs does not make genius, but enough of that. BTW should you go there are no pics allowed and phones are to be off and security is hawkish for sure.

Off to DWs favorite spot, The Conservatory, not saying I do not enjoy each new visit but she loves it as much as about anything we do each trip.

Next to Petrossian, which was nearly ruined if not for the agent at the MLife desk, best desk in town BTW. DW was going to do the Afternoon Tea while I did the Vodka and Caviar and luckily we mentioned it to the MLife rep and she said we had to have a reservation. We got lucky as hell and they had a reservation open for the last seating, :woot: But as we had time to burn it was to the games again. The Bell has always been great to us as I said earlier and this trip was the same, but stay tuned for the end for the best is yet to come, this trip was no different. DW hit the dollar machines for over 200 in a short time and I went to the Craps machine and had a great run ending up over 300 by the time we had to go to Petrossian.

I am going on a bit of a tangent here so bear with me, we have long stayed at THEHotel aside from the last several being comped at Luxor as I have stated several times, that may change. The Morgan group plan for Delano is starting soon with the first rooms opening in October and the entire staff is at a loss as to what will happen, we saw things that do not bode well for them not trying to make a South Strip Cosmo. Should that happen in lieu of Four Seasons and staying South we will likely move to Bellagio and give them much more business even if we do not play to the comp level they require.

Feeling good, with a few Sierra Nevadas under my belt we head to Petrossian for the first of two great dining experiences. I will admit the Vodka and Caviar was great, wonderful caviar samples and I found a new Vodka I will keep around for sure, but the Afternoon Tea was not just a bargain for the price but my God it was tasty.

The Vodkas were LEVEL from Sweden, CIROC from France and my new favorite and previously untried CHOPIN from Poland. I had long heard good words of Polish Vodkas but at the same time bad on potato vs, grape or grain, this one was the opposite, smooth, absolutely no ethanol burn at the back of the tongue and a nice warmth, like I said it will be in my cabinet ASAP. The caviars wer4e The Royal Siberian, Royal Transmontanous and Royal Ossetra, so glad they had the Ossetra as I read the last review they had a different type. All three were good but the Ossetra would well be worth the extra cost, much smoother, less fishy and moderately salty, the Royal Siberian was obviously farm raised, much smaller and much more fish taste to it.

had the Afternoon Tea as mentioned with a variety of finger sandwiches, pastrys, scones and accompaniments as well as a great tea called Relax. Like I said despite the great experience I had after sampling some of DWs fare I felt gypped and mine was free. The Scones OMG were the best ever, the chocolates were the highest quality and even the tea itself was good enough I wanted it in place of the Vodka, but that may have been the beers talking  But I do wish she would have used my phone for her pics as you see

Next off to Aria where we had two MyVegas to use but only one was available due to opening time and that nights schedule. We had the Red Sangria and having sampled many different ones from Brazil to the US this was flat the best ever. The bartender left a bit to be desired but that was rectified the next day. Time was running short by then so we played a 20 each, me losing all DW ending up 70 on a Wicked Winnings II, the first of our Wicked wins. :nworthy::thumbsup:

For the Gathering we had Bowling at Red Rock lanes planned and thank God some folks had thought ahead to get rentals, 100 bucks round trip would be cab fare our cabbie we almost used told us. What are the chances, three outta three great cabbies so far. We had never been to RR so this was the second new one for us this trip but no gambling just bowling. My friends at Junkie last year started to see the fruits of their labors when USA Today picked them as primary MMA source and when we arrived we found out how good it was for us all. Red Rock is a huge alley with 60 lanes, BUT, they as well have a VIP section and after arrival our host Goze, the MAN, told us we were using the VIP area and more everything except drinks was FREEEE :kiss: This was a great time for all with several fighters making appearances along with some who were bowling with us, the lanes were a bit dry for my taste and not having my own gear was different but damn it was FUN.

We had the lanes for three hours that night and there was not a moment till the end there was not laughter and camaraderie amongst the fam of the Junkie Nation. I got my act together when the power of the Dude was instilled in me by my friend Hall, the best Royce Gracie impression in the world, I assumed the Dude prayer position at the front of the lane and commenced to finish what started as a horrible night in 2nd place despite a horrid 108 my first game. ABIDE I said as I turkeyed the final frame of the night.:beer:
Coming next Friday, MMA Legends, hand wraps and the best dining experience ever had by us anywhere. Get your popcorn cause there are two days left and the strongest finish we have ever made anywhere.

I was debating about that afternoon tea reward from MyVegas at Bellagio(since I don't drink that eliminates most of the stuff I can get)...May give it a go and thanks for the heads up about the reservation. Enjoying the report very much.

Ever went back to work after that trip and said WTF am I doing here, yeah that was today :Þ . But now back to reliving the trip.

So back we head to THEHotel it's still early to us so we head to the VP area and I head to a 100 play while DW sticks to her 3 Play, always JorB. We never made great gains that lasted but before we know it we look at a TITO and it's 3AM, the show starts at 9 and there was the debate of do we take the long night and rest or head back to the room. We decide to hit the hay and save it for the next night.
Friday arrives the grand finale of the Junkie Nation festivities, MMA legends, and current stars as well as a special treat for the crew. We stop at the check in desk just to get the tab for our one day we paid for, I had forgot to mention we paid for one day out of 4 we stayed, I had a two day comp via MLife and then ended up getting another night as well as a comp meal via the director of F&B I have become good friends with via Facebook. She is a Cicerrone and me being the lover of good beer I am we have exchanged many tips and suggestions with each other. While there we find out that what the check in girl did was actually 150 the first 3 days in F&B and an additional 50 for the last day, happy day . We make a stop for breakfast at Raffles, nothing special but quite edible, it's not Verandah or THECafe but it's fuel for the body and it's open 24 hours as well. I snag a Huevos Rancheros, well done I will say and a very good Chorizo in it and DW grabs the Chocloate Chip Belgian Waffles add coffee and juices and with tip that last 50 F&B was gone.

We arrive at the Sports Book to a rather haggard looking group seems many went to the Strip Joints after bowling and were paying the price still :evillaugh. The first guest of the day was old friend and fellow Oklahoma Stater Johny "Bigg Rigg" Hendricks, the next 170lb champ when he hands George St Pierre his ass on a platter when he decides to actually step in the cage with Johny. I had not seen Johny in three years and he is lookin good, additional muscle and the epic beard going on
The studio at MB Sports Book.
    Me and Bigg Rigg
    [IMG]

Also there was Johnys coach and BJJ whiz Marc Laimon on of the greatest minds in the sport, better than Greg Jackson IMO but with a harder headed crew to work with. Greg and I first met on the BJJ circuit and have continued a friendship and to catch up in person for the first time in a few years was great. We talked for probably 45 minutes and even when he was asked to take pics he told me to stick around, talking MMA strategy for us is like talking million dollar deals for business men. We could have talked all day if given the chance.
    Me and Marc Laimon
    [IMG]

One of the special guest was world renowned and vastly respected cutman Jacob "Stitch" Duran who along with Don House his protege would be wrapping hands for the Junkie Nation. They wrapped many hands that day but the most special one was when Stitch wrapped the smallest hand he has ever done.

This was my friends Jesus' son and this little man could not have been happier. When Stitch told he was going to cut it off for a souvenir the little man was having none of that :nono:He wore that hand wrap all day long and was so proud of it
Next up was once again fellow O Stater and MMA legend Randy the Natural Couture, Randy is always a great guest of the show and a great guy and this shot is one of my favs ever I have gotten.
Me, Randy and Johny the Cowboy Army in force
    [IMG]
Randy was in a rush so we talked for a very short moment as he was heading to finalize the details for a new film, a Memorial Day benefit ride and the new Bellator MMA show that day. The man never rests I swear.

The last guest of the day is one who I have admired since I met him when he was first starting at Chute Boxe when I was studying there while stationed in Curitiba. The Axe Murderer Wanderlei SIIILVAAAAA, those of you who know the sport know why I typed his name that way :nworthy:. I was shocked when Wand remembered me from all those years back and he looks great for a man with the years and wars he has had behind him.
    Me and Wanderlei Silva
    [IMG]

As the show ended that day we knew we may not see some of the crew again outside social media and the forums as there were differing plans for the day and evening. Many of the crew were headed to Texas De Brazil, I am not a fan of colon blocking with cheap meat and besides we had a meal that night like no other. That night many were going to a rap show at the Palms with LL Cool J and Ice Cube, other were going to see The Hangover 3 and others were playing poker, in other words Friday was all over the place. We headed to Aria as we wanted more of Julian Serrano and figured some Tapas and sangria would fill that bill very well. There was a new bartender, Jeremy if you can get him do it the guy has not just great storys but is the Sangria master at Serrano. Jeremy was one of the best barkeeps I have had anywhere and as it was not busy, and the other bar customers were in his words, "the kind thats fuckin up Vegas" we spent much time talking and drinking Sangrias and eating Tapas. Our fav was the Iberico Sliders, a new item there but all the items were outstanding, BTW while we had both Sangrias stick to the red it is the best I have ever had, I said that before didn't I :beer::thumbsup:
Even DW who is not a big drinker drank till she was buzzing well :evillaugh
    Sliders and White Sangria
    [IMG]
From there we head to Jean Philippe Patisserie which we had always meant to try but was usually packed to the gills, we lucked out and it was a bit slower this time. We decided we wanted something sweet to munch and headed to the Truffles, HOLY CARP these were great, all we could ask each other is why the hell had we not done this before. We sampled 14 different Truffles my personal fav was the Gringo, Dark Chocolate with JGM coffee how can you go wrong with coffee and chocolate in one meal. Sorry as we were pretty buzzed pics did not take place :blowkiss: . It was 3 hours till our dinner res so we head back for some rest as we were going on next to know sleep  :noangel: and needed to get cleaned up.
Next up the perfect meal to begin a great evening.

Rest has been achieved, time for what would end up being the beginning of a great evening with a perfect meal. As I mentioned I have come to know the director of F&B well and due to some help with issues our last trip I informed her of she had comped us at Aureole, one of my top three of all time places to dine. DW and I get cleaned up and begin the trek over, anticipation is taking over and despite looking over the menu we had not decided what would be for our meals.

We arrive and are greeted like very special guests with manager himself seating us in Swan Court at not just a booth but one built for 4-6 people, the looks we were getting all night from tables of twice as many people at regular tables were priceless :Þ
The better half and I in the huge booth
    [IMG]

The meal began with a Canape welcome tray, the norm at Swan Court as we discovered our first time there several years back.

The tray consisted of from bottom left, I cannot remember despite it being my fav, Pate, Croque Monsiuer, housemade Lamb Sausage, with a fresh Oyster as the center peice. The lamb sausage I want to take home with me, delicate and perfectly spiced, and even the Oyster which I am NOT a fan of was very good, but Lord that one bottom left was to die for. We made drink selection after that and the bread tray were offered, cranberry walnut was my choice DW chose the pretzel bread, mine was great but I never tasted hers. DW chose the Citrus Cooler a right tasty grapefruit based vodka cocktail and I had a beer, of course I did I am a beer fan of the worst kind, but only good beers. I chose this
    [IMG]
A 96 out of 100 9.2 ABV on Beer advocate. A great choice to begin with, a bit less heavy on the tongue and less sweet than many Trappist Ales are, huge depth with caramel, tobacco and oaky notes. After we decided on appetizers we told our waiter we were going to the Court to have our drinks, he said when we were ready let him know and they would prepare out apps.

Our meal began after a short visit to Swan Court we told our server we were going to head back in, he said wait a moment and brought us each a glass of Moet and Chandon Champagne to have before our apps, very nice I must say even for a hophead like myself. For our apps DW chose the Aritisnal Cheese consisting of Big Rock Blue, Dante, IL Pastore, Robiola, MouCo Rouge, Goat Gouda with Apple jewels and Huckleberrys
    [IMG]
I kept it light with the Organic Green salad with shaved fennel, piquillo peppers in and orange basil vinaigrette.
A great light selection I felt to go with the rest of the night, besides I knew DW was going to be sharing anyway :evillaugh After our apps we decided on our main courses and drinks for the main and decided to go enjoy a smoke and drink in the Court again. I chose La Fin Du Monde a bit more carbonated Tripel from Unibroue which I felt was a great choice to go with my main course.

We had been offered the Parellel menu but I am not a fan of veal having been raised in a cattle family and I simple do not agree with the raising method, I have always felt cattle should be free ranges from birth and always will. I know some will say I am missing out but so be it, I have my own set of morals when it comes to critters. We were also offered the Seasonal Menu but decided we would go with the menu instead. I chose the Wild Striped Bass with Bulgur Wheat, Candied Walnuts, Tangerine segments and Brussel leaves

Simply wonderful is the best way to describe it and even the next morning it was outstanding, perfectly seared and the brussel leaves melded well with the walnuts and tangerine, I chose the Roasted Garlic Pomme Frittes as my side. DW had the 18 oz Dry Aged NY Strip with Peruvian smashed potatoes and Chimicurri with the Sauteed Wild Mushrooms but I ate most of the shrooms which were DELICIOUS.

the steak like the chicken was just as good the next morning, great thing is we get a free mini fridge due to DWs diabetes so we got to take home our leftovers and one dessert.

After the meal we decided to have another drink in the Court, well DW did as I was still working on the 750ml La Fin Du Monde, thats a big ass bottle of beer :drunk::beer::thumbsup: There was a family there feeding the Swans so we managed to get some closer shots finally

By now I was feeling no pain and happy as a pig in slop so to speak, nicely buzzed but far from drunk

Swan Court is beautiful at night and sadly the pics do not do it total justice, the peace and tranquility of the surroundings and the happiness in the little girl feeding the Swans added even more to the night.

For dessert we chose the Chocolate Trio OMG this was great

Rocky Road Profiteroles, Toasted Marshmallow Fondue with Strawberrys and mini donuts for dipping, Pots de crème with Caramel Corn and Hazelnut Ricotta Beignets. Simply the best way to finish the meal off. We also chose, as we had a dessert choice each and the server insisted we have both so we chose Strawberry and Creme Pain Perdu, I don't know how good it was that night but my God it was great for breakfast the next morning. The night at Aureole as far as food was at an end but the manager asked if we would like a coffee and whether I like cigars, of course we said yes and he asked if we would like to be seated outside for the finish of the evening. The coffee is the same as Verandah and is as good at night as in the morning and even better in a press drank in the court and for me Giorgio brings a Patel 50 Robusto, sorry folks it don't get know better than this.....but it did. While we were outside enjoying the night a nicely dressed, very hot, woman comes up to us and asks if we are the Maness', it seems unknown to us we had been given VIP entry to the new Light night club via the GM of Aureole, which was fortunate because the line was Haze or XS like to be conservative as it was opening night. As we leave Giorgio gives me his cell number and says when we are in town do not hesitate to call him if we need anything at all. I will get into Light, as well as the plusses and minuses in the finale of the TR. To be continued
