Ok, I think we has decided to stay at the Flamingo for our trip in July. I am hoping to try the $20 trick at check in. We will be there from July 7 - 11 for our birthdays (mine is the 8th, hubbies is the 9th). Should I mention that when checking in? This will be our first trip to Vegas in 10 years and I think it will be a good time. I am excited to go I know there have been a lot of changes since we were there last.

You may get an upgrade coming in at the end of a holiday weekend. Flamingo is a friendly casino and decent rooms if you get a go room or suite. We will be there for the 4th of July weekend and have stayed there many times. Be sure and check out the Margaritaville Casino. Easy access to the monorail for the hot weather you will have.

We stayed at a plain old ROTH room at the Flamingo about a month ago and it was quite nice, actually. Front section, but facing the courtyard and not the Strip.

Good luck! That's a pretty slow time in Vegas. I'm going that week too, and my Sunday and Monday rates were SUPER low. (not staying there though)

    Definitely get a GO room!

Should I ask for a Go room or just ask if they have any upgrades available? I have not tried this on our previous visits.

Dont chance the $20 at Flamingo if you are hoping for a better room type. Just book the room type up front.

Yea... personally I wouldn't stay in a FAB room...if you really want it just book it.

I just looked it up, a GO room is $80 more for the whole trip. that isn't bad. It's SO cheap as it is anyways.

My wife and her family will be there July 6-10 at Flamingo...my bday is the 7th!

We all have Fab rooms booked cheap...I most certainly will have $20 on the table.

I have been to Vegas a few times and stayed in FAB rooms 2x, but not since 2009. Wife's family is pretty low roller-ish, so I doubt they'll have issues with rooms as long as they are clean.

I'd have opted for an upgrade as I can easily afford it, but my wife doesn't want to alienate her family or make them feel less "special"...

Maybe I can get the upgrade with the $20 and not make it seem so bad, lol.

Skip the $20 trick and just tell whomever at the desk it's your Birthdays and that you haven't been in a decade. If you're getting into McCarran in the latter afternoon/early evening, even better for you.

They are good people over at The Flamingo.

I kind of moved on from there over the past four-five years, but I will be there during that time, too...so can you score me a bathroom-trashbag worth of their lotion and I'll come pick it up over at the Casino Royale?

    Great!!

    Have fun.

    Wow - lots of us there that time-frame. I arrive on 4th & leave on 10th. 5 @ Flamingo and 1 @ Mirage.

I would grab you a ton of lotion TD, but I am nearly out at home!!! (I donated a bunch to local women's abuse center).

I have a FAB room booked for Sept. I will be trying the $20 for a GO room. We are getting married, so I will definately be mentioning that at check in. I did read on here someone successfully upgraded to a GO room with the $20 tip. Good luck and make sure you post how it goes on here!

Wow....I am in town from the 4th through the 11th. I got a feeling the place will be busy. My flight doesnt arrive until 9:30 pm; I hope I don't get a crap room.

BTW, what time are the fireworks? With a 9:30 flight, my first choice is to watch them in person.....But, it would be cool to see them while landing also....

We are just missing you all -- we'll be there June 30-July 4 (leaving early morning). Is that week typically busy, or with the 4th being later in the week, will it be nuts?

I was there last month for my 50th and mentioned it while checking in. All I got was a 'Happy Birthday'.
