    My Trip Report

    5/9
Flew direct to LAS on Southwest... Early bird netted A31, so easy boarding. Left 1/2 hour late, but scored a window seat with nobody in the middle. For the first time i can recall there was almost complete cloud cover all the way from the east coast until about 20 miles outside Vegas, so the scenery was not as beautiful as it usually is. Arrived on time though, and met Presidential at baggage claim. Didn't check a bag so off we were to Wynn.

I had booked the spring offer from resort marketing... 3 free nights and $300 free play. Pleaded fruitlessly with my host to switch to the Tower Suites for 2 nights instead, and was told they need 25,000 points / day for TS rooms (I average probably 6,000 to 8,000 / day).

Checked in to a resort room, king facing the golf course, as far south as possible (didn't know any kings faced the golf course on the resort side). For future reference, I think the best room numbers (quietest and a chance you can sneak down the tower suite side if the door is unlocked--it wasn't on my floor) end in -16... Plus you share only one wall with another room (other side is the stairs). I was in -18. Could hear some club noise from XS but it was tolerable... A tip is to set the room fan to "on high" instead of "auto"... That and the free "white noise" app on the iPhone made for no disturbances all night.

Showed up at Mizumi for my reservation for teppanyaki at 6:30... I was given a whole table to myself (this is a solo trip) and there was only one couple finishing at one other table in the whole teppan section. No matter, the service was great and the chef toned down the show and served me quickly. I was in and out in about 50 minutes. Delicious as always.

Played for about an hour and then to bed--still on east coast time. Played video poker--mostly $1 triple play deuces, and about broke even for that short session. No great hands but nothing horrendous either. Did hit quad 8's on the 8x top line on multi-strike poker... At 25c max play that netted $500. Also hit quad 6's on $1 triple play bonus poker... $125.

    5/10
Woke up around 4:30 (7:30 back east) and walked down to the drugstore for coffee. Strolled around for a bit waiting for the fitness center to open. Managed to spend about $250 on gifts in the drugstore for the kids. I have to say that I like the gym at wynn better than encore. Bigger and a little nicer. The gym was buzzing even at 6am--usually I have the place to myself. 2 miles on the treadmill, then up to the room to shower.

Wasn't quite hungry enough to eat yet, so grabbed some "free" fruit at the gym. Played more VP... On triple play $1 bonus poker was dealt trip 7's and drew the quads on two out of the three hands... $250. Started playing $1 triple play double double bonus... Hit quad 2's for $400. Wandered over to Encore, where they've relocated / removed a number of VP machines... A few had decent pay tables but not as many as they had last time. The vibe at Encore was beyond quiet--almost dead... Granted it was early Friday morning but I don't think they even had music playing in the casino. Odd. I was happy about the decision to stay at Wynn this trip.

Was thinking about heading to the pool, but it was fairly overcast and since I was alone I didn't want to go if it was crowded... Again the east coast time difference usually has us at the pool when it opens at 8am. So I played some more at Wynn... No luck at Encore. On DDB triple play, hit quad 9's for $250, quad 6's for $250, and was dealt a wild royal (2 deuces) for $375. Played some $5 single play BP and hit quad 4's for $1k. Overall at this point I was probably about even.

Did some shopping at Palazzo and then retuned to Wynn. Ate at the buffet (thank you "open" line pass I was given 6 years ago!), which was good. They have a new (to me) deuces game called bonus deuces, and although I didn't like it as much as regular deuces, I was dealt 5 aces on triple play for $1200. So then I was up a bit (even after paying cash while doing some damage at palazzo's shops).

Played at Wynn until dinner. No great hands but was dealt a wild royal (1 deuce) on $1 triple play for $375. Anyone know if the right play was to hold all? Or should I have just held the 4 to the royal? So about even going into dinner.

Ate at the bar at SW. Haven't been here since our first trip to Wynn in Nov 2005... Wasn't all that impressed then but wanted to give it another try. It was outstanding! Great bourbon old fashioned served by a very pleasant bartender. Got a seat right away even though it was a Friday night at 6:30. Nice selection in the bread basket, and then had the pea soup on the vegan menu. Then had the chicken dish, which was the best chicken I've ever eaten. And the bill came to only about $75... I was truly impressed and this will be a staple on future Vegas trips.

Should have taken it easy playing after dinner, but went to the high limit room for $5 poker. Blew $400 quickly on bonus poker while waiting for a drink. Gave up and left before the waitress returned. Headed to Encore and proceeded to feed $100 bills into the triple play machine... Lost about $2k and finally headed back to Wynn. Played some $2 poker and broke even there. So the $3k I went with was gone ($10k total bankroll this trip) and I hit the ATM and headed to bed with the dignity of $1k in my wallet at about 9:30.

    5/11
Slept well until 5:30, showered, got coffee and a smoothie at the drugstore and then played. Stayed about even after hitting quad aces on $1 triple play bonus poker for $400. Went to the pool and sat at the European part--nice and quiet from 8-9:30am.

Went up to the room and packed and got dressed, then checked out early by a day... Flight wasn't until 4pm so I was going to check out today anyway. Dropped bags at the bell desk and played for an hour with no good wins but no big losses. Did some more shopping and then went to the buffet again. The wait was 1 hour 20 mins so I was very happy to have that line pass. Was in and out in about 40 mins. Decided to play $5 single play bonus poker, and hit quad Jacks for $675. Kept going because even though I was down about $4k I was nowhere near my bankroll and was leaving in a few hours. After about 30 mins BANG I hit quad Aces for $2k. Was very happy about that and yes if I were playing DDB the payout would've been $4k but I didn't have a kicker so it would NOT have been $10k. At this point I was just ecstatic that my bankroll will be intact for the next trip.

With the $300 free play and the $150 cash back from my points (15,000 in less than 48 hours), I played $2 bonus poker and turned that into $500 cash. At this point my "buy-in" was $6k ($3k initial cash plus $3k from the ATM) and I had $3,800 in my pocket. For the next hour before I left I tried to turn that into $4k but wound up settling for $3,500 when it was time to leave.

Presidential was waiting for me out front and within 40 mins I was waiting at the gate for the on-time flight home.

Thanks for reading and thanks to all of you fellow Wynn-philes for your posts. I hope to be back sometime in the Fall.

Thanks for the report from another Wynn-phile!

Good to hear about Mizumi - I haven't eaten there yet and haven't read much about it. I'll have to give it a go next month. I'm also glad to hear about your good experience at SW. After reading a less than stellar review on here recently, I was a bit worried. Hopefully, that bad report was an anomaly as it is one of my favorites - I'd hate to see it go downhill.

Nice hit on the last day! Always nice to leave on a high note.

Enjoyed the report, thanks. Nice to get the $2000 win at the end.

You mentioned that you usually earn 6000-8000 points a day. That equates to $36,000-$48,000 coin-in for the VP you played. Did that get any of your F&B comped?

25,000 points a day for a TS room is just insane. I do not doubt what you were told but $150,000 coin-in at 8/5 BP or similar is just too high a requirement. AFAIK that sort of play would earn high RFB in a standard room at somewhere like Bellagio.

I meant to mention that. My host has been putting me up in the TS rooms the last several times I’ve stayed there and I certainly don’t earn 25,000 points a day. She sent me a spreadsheet regarding what they are looking for in order to comp Tower Suites. It says:

    4000 points or $200/hand (4 hours) = TS Room
    8000 points or $300/hand = TS Room + $200 f/b
25,000 points or $550/hand = Executive Suite (RFB)
40,000 points or $600/hand = Parlor Suite (RFB)
60,000 points or $750/hand = Salon Suite (RFB)

That's interesting. It's rare that something as 'black and white' as that is available. Do you have anything for the resort rooms or do you consider those too trashy these days?!!:wink2:

Yeah, I don’t know how “black and white” it actually is. Last trip, my luck was pretty good and between my VP points and BJ/Craps action, I “should” have qualified for that $200/day food and beverage. But, my host only took about $350 off my bill for a four day trip. So, I suppose YMMV.

I don’t know the Resort Room requirements (I haven’t felt like slumming it lately:poke:). I always have an offer of some sort through casino marketing for a RR, so I’ve never bothered to ask my host about it. I do know that last time I stayed in a Resort Room, I got about $700 off my bill for similar (or slightly less) play (in addition to the room).

Nice to see the requirements for the different room types. In my 4-5 stays at Wynn / Encore, I have had the Salon Suite each trip and those rooms are really nice and spacious. However, the next step up (which would be the Fairway Villas), are strict requirements based on C/L to get into those. So, it seems that they have a gap between what it takes to get a salon suite (not even $1000 average bet), and what it takes to get into the Fairway Villas (about 250k+ CL).

On the website, they quote 1 point per $1.50 /slots, and 1 point per $6-$15 video poker played (or $24K to $60K coin in per day).

I wonder what the requirements are for a regular room. I only receive poker room rates there (which I can usaully beat on Hotwire). Wynn does not care about green chip average (under $100) BJ or craps, or at least in terms of my personal comps. I am jealous of those who haven't played in years receive a three day "try us out" comp offer for a hit and run session played three years earlier.

I have played Wynn machines on a marginal basis in the past. I'd consider $1 9/7 DB three line and might try a couple of hours if I'm running well to see if they send future offers. If it's $15 per point earned on 9/7 DB, I'll pass ($6 - $9 I'd play).

the last free room offer i booked from wynn (3 midweek nights in a resort room + 300fp) had the following in the fine print:
"Additional complimentaries may be awarded to guests who earn at least 5,000 points per day on slots or have at least 4 hours of table play at $250 average bet per day during their stay. "

Thanks for this! Whenever I've asked my hosts (this one and the previous one) for TS, they made it sould like I was asking for Steve Wynn's G650 jet back to the East coast. I will be more adamant in the future with this knowledge. I am good for at least 7,000 points a day.

I didn't ask for anything off my bill, merely because I checked out quickly and forgot.

In the past I've never gotten anything more than free rooms (Resort side), although they comped my first stay (room only) back in 2005 in a regular TS room. Also for my honeymoon they sent a limo to get us at the airport and gave us a TS room for 2 nights.

Again, your input is appreciated. If anyone else wants to share their normal levels of play (points / day, games and denominations, bankrolls), that would be great, too.

Is there anyone on the strip that cares about green chip table games players?

You're best bets these days are Tropicana, TI and LVH among hotels with decent rooms. Lower tier MGM properties may also throw you something for consistent play. CET could care less and they usually only have a couple decent tables in each casino.

Stations Casinos are decent for off strip BJ and they also have FP Video Poker. IIRC my rating was $80/hand for 5+ hrs day at Red Rock.

Boulder Strip and Downtown beyond GN will show love at the $25 level, GN will require at least $50 (or significant hours at $30-$50).

MGM was more generous when visitation tanked after 9/11 and then in the 2008-2010 era. Occupancy is now around 90% + at most decent strip properties and the comps (and VP pay tables, table game rules) have dropped accordingly. Then again, non gambling revenue counts for $2 (Rooms, Food, Drinks, Entertainment, Clubs, Pools, etc.) in every $3 strip casinos take in. The ratio was the opposite "back in the day". The house has an edge in gaming, but not as high as selling booze at hundreds / thousands per bottle.

Thanks for posting this. This is the type of hard data I like to see.

The numbers are higher than my experience or maybe it was just host discretion but last time I stayed there I was comped the exec suite and had modest food taken off and I probably only averaged around 200/hand that trip and the previous one where he put me in a tower suite and comped my modest f/b as well. I didn't play VP back then. However I'm sure I played more than 4 hrs/day at the tables. This was also well over a year ago.
