I arrive in Vegas on Memorial Day at 10am. I assume that the night before is busy and few rooms will be available for early check-in. My goal is to use a 20 dollar trick to upgrade to a corner suite or possibly even a penthouse. Would it be worth while to wait until the afternoon to check-in or can I expect to have them find me the right room and let me know when it becomes available. The last thing I want to do is check-in at 11am and get a crappy room because it's the only one availbe that early.

I think your chances of getting a penthouse is pretty close to 0% using a twenty. It might be a little bigger chance of getting a corner suite but probably just as likely u will get one just asking for a complimentary upgrade. Most likely u will be able to get a high floor with a view even though the views at Aria is not to spectacular.

Just tell them you're willing to wait until later in the day to physically check in if it means you can get a better room.

They will store your luggage and you hit the pool, casino, etc... They will call you when your room is ready.

While I can't speak specifically to Aria, in general, when I've arrived that early at hotels, I've mentioned that I was happy waiting until later if a better room would be available then, and that's often paid off. They can see what rooms are being checked out of that day, and what rooms are empty but haven't been cleaned yet, so it's not like the check-in desk is limited to looking at what rooms are ready for occupancy right at that moment.

The corner suites are in regular hotel. If you are in SkySuites regular room, the next better room is a 1br suite. As the Casino controls the suites, I would not expect $20 to get you anything, other than maybe a higher floor (the casino even pre-determines which guests have the strip view versus the view of I 15).

for a huge holiday like Memorial day you can be guaranteed that all the big suites are taken by big players. Even the smaller suites will likely be taken. The suite committee will already have gone through every suite in the place and assigned them. A lot of players will have been bumped out of the bigger suites they normally get and they will fill the small suites. You may luck into something with a better view, but the chances of a getting into a corner suite are slim and something like a Penthouse are nil.

    In all do respect...

    ROFLMAO

As a Plat on one visit, they wanted to charge me $240 a night to get a suite. Your bigger problem will be lack of suites. But, since the weekend is just ENDING, they may have some later. Again, casino pretty much controls them.

I'm booked for a 1 bedroom Suite right now. It looks like things clear out very hard on the Monday, as rates are at the minimum on Monday-thurs that week. Are the corners all occupied by Penthouses on the SkySuites floors or are there some 1 bedroom suites on the corners also?

    Ah..

I stand corrected and no longer laughing. I did not notice you were already in a 1 BR Suite, working to get a corner. That is another story.

    Maybe.

    Good luck to you.

Just shoot for a city view one bedroom suite. The corner sky suites are the panoramic penthouses.

I think you confused everyone because you were saying you wanted to try to get a corner suite, and Aria actually has a suite called a "corner suite" which is below the Aria Suite you have already booked. What you are saying is that you want the 1 bedroom Aria Suite that you have already booked, on a corner if possible. Unfortunately, I don't think those exist (though I could be wrong, I have only stayed in Penthouses at Aria). The Sky Suites, which is where your Aria Suite is located, are a hotel within a hotel (separate lobby, separate elevators etc) and I believe the corners are all panoramic penthouses. You may be able to get a free upgrade to a city view Aria Suite, but even that would be a stretch given that it's around $50-$100/day extra.

I can tell you that I would fall on the floor in shock if you came back here and said that the $20 trick got you a free upgrade from an Aria Suite to a Penthouse. There is usually a $300-$400 price differential between the two, and the Sky Suites desk clerk won't have the authority to upgrade you because you tipped her.

In SkySuites, the corners are NOT all penthouses. They do have 1BR suites in at least some of the corners. I have stayed in them several times, and each time they were on the corner towards the Vdara/Cosmo end, and facing west. They are a different layout than the regular 1BR in Skysuites. The Bathroom is on the corner glass with floor to ceiling views out west, at Vdara/Bellagio, and also looking at the rear of Cosmo, including their pool area near back of property. The living room is larger than the other 1BR and includes a large dining table (I think it has six chairs), where the regular 1BR is a smaller round table. Personally, for me I prefer the regular 1BR as the design is a bit more traditional wood/carpet where the corner is hard surfaces and more contemporary furniture.

The non-Penthouse Sky Suites on the ends (corners) end in 01. They are bigger and more desireable than the standard 1 br Sky Suites.
I've stayed in both the standard 1 br and corner 1 br SS several times.
