Tried to fit the whole theme into the title! I figured this topic belonged here as opposed to LV Strip Hotels and Casinos.

Mostly looking for a space mid/south strip that has some good beer (not talking about Sam Adams or Pyramid, etc.. More unique, craft beer) on tap that you get for free while playing Video Poker. Since I hate waiting around for CW's when they are scarce, bartop VP would be best, never an empty glass! Good pay tables at the $0.25 denomination would be nice but I would take 96% $0.25 VP at a bar in a nice place with good beer.

I've recently played VP at the Flamingo (honestly can't remember what they had on tap, I think I was drinking New Castle, but looking for something a bit more original), Bally's and the Cosmo (I can't even try to remember what I was drinking at that point).

Thanks for any help! I heard something about the Monte Carlo but I've never set foot in there so I'm going in a bit blind.

The only bar in the Monte Carlo that serves craft beers is inside The Pub, and they don't have video poker. They will let you order off that beer menu if you're playing in the high limit room, but not if you're playing .25 VP.

The only bartop VP in Monte Carlo (right outside the sportsbook) has one of the worst drink comp policies in Vegas -- they are a full service bar, but they only comp certain drinks, which basically ends up being bottom shelf liquor and the same beer you can get on the floor. The guy actually made a point of telling me that when I sat down. I had to pay for my Maker's Mark, which is ridiculous (although irrelevant, since I charged it to my room and got it comped anyway.)

Sorry I can't help other than to tell you where not to go.

    Ellis

Ellis Island - good microbrew, comped when playing always.

I've actually had some local beers on tap at the bar by the poker room at the Bellagio.....not a bad location, near the sports book and restrooms too!

I second the Ellis Island comment. It's not too far from the strip (located one block east of the Las Vegas Strip on Koval Lane behind Bally's) and I found their own hefeweizen to be excellent. The CW will bring pints to you at the regular VP machines and the service was fairly frequent when I was there on a midweek mid-morning.

Stay away from Ellis Island. Not good beer (I know my beer).

If you want a really good craft beer selection and are willing to take a short cab ride off of the strip ($12-$15), might I suggest Money Plays at the corner of West Flamingo and Decatur (near the Palms). Tremendous beer selection. Not stuff you're likely to find anywhere else (especially comped). Yes it's a bit of a dive, but the owner Big Stan knows his beer and you will be safe. They'll be happy to call a cab for you to get home.

If you're not that adventurous (wus) go to the Book & Stage bar at Cosmo. They've got Delirium Tremens, Deschutes Mirror Pond and Black Butte Porter. Yum.

I second Book and Stage in Cosmo if It must be on the strip. They also have some good craft cocktails, if you're into that sort of thing. If you are willing to go downtown, MSS is very good, with brewed on premesis beers and 9/6 Jacks or Better at the Boar's Head Bar. Chicago Brewing Company is another local brewery that has good beer. There's a Chicago Brewing Company in Four Queens with decent VP and they also have taps at Benny's Bullpen inside Binions.

Youu could get a shuttle from Bally's over to Orleans or Gold Coast. Both have a VP bar that serves New Belgium Fat Tire on tap.

If those options don't do it for you then consider a cab or a rental car out to Aces and Ales.

Just FYI, there's a Fat Tire tap at the main bar at Paris.

Didn't know Ellis Island was behind Paris, seems like maybe a good mid-day trip. I'll check out their beers for myself since it's so close (probably wouldn't walk it at night though) and see what I think! Thanks for the tip!

Main Street Station has been a pretty common theme when it comes to good beer and cheap gambling. Maybe I'll have to break out from the strip for an afternoon, cab it to the MSS, sample some beer and play craps and VP. I have 6 full days afterall!

The Cosmo Book and Stage bar is some great news as well since I'll be staying there. I didn't spend time in any of their bars last time I went, just on the floor gambling. I really like to get out and about when I'm in Vegas but it's always nice to have a relaxing fallback close to home! :)

    Thanks everyone!

Just a fyi, there are only two bars at MSS. The one in the brewpub and the one in the main casino area.

The 777 brewpub has the full selection of their current beers, but they don't have VP. The Boar's Bar only has 4 on tap but they do have bartop VP and 9/6 JOB, 9/5 DDB. 20x odds on craps also at MSS

One more FYI...walk over to NYNY and catch the WAX bus to downtown for $2. It'll have you there in less than 25 minutes.

One more MSS tip: if you go Monday thru Friday they offer happy hour from 3-6pm in the 777. Pints of all their brews are $2.50. So if you want to try their specialty / seasonal offerings, then pop into the 777 at this time and just buy them. Then head back to the Boars Head for VP.

Good point! Also at the casino bar, pints are only $1.75 and margaritas are .99.

Here is the happy hour menu.

They comp your beer at the Boar's Bar if actively playing $0.25 max credit VP right? Or do you have to pay $1.75 per brew while playing?

Thanks for the tip on the Bus to save some bucks! I need to check out Freemont street anyway, maybe I can take two days. First day I can go solo and play VP at MSS and poker at Binions and then the next day I'll bring my fiance and we can casino hop, zipline, etc..

Yes, the drinks are comped at the Boar's Head bar when you are playing. I'm not sure if there is a minimum bet requirement.

First off, if you are playing $1.25 per hand, the drinks are comped at the Boar's Head. Now, playing less than 5 quarters it is just a little iffy. Some bartenders might comp you the the first couple of drinks, but with others you'll only get that first one free if not playing 5 quarters.

Honestly, sometimes it just depends on their mood. But for sure if you are playing $1.25 per hand on quarter VP, your drinks are comped. Just remember to tip the bartender well.:poke:

Who said the beer at Ellis Island isn't good?

I've had beer all over the world. It's a matter of taste.

Maybe it's just because I'm in Vegas. Ellis Island is always my first stop, for a cold Micro Brewed beer.

Sometimes I'll fill my growler bottle and take it back to the room, as long as there is a frig or a red neck ice chest. (sink filled with ice).

    Can't go wrong!

Beers are comped, as well as drinks. The service is slow, but what do you want for free?

My wife had 7 egg nogs before they cut her off. Those things are super strong.

Just make sure you're sober if you intend to drive. Have a meal, wait two hours, two cups of coffee and you're still drunk? See ya in jail!

From my trip last week, I noticed strip casinos are getting a little more crafty than they used to be.

At Mandalay Bay, I was able to snag a comped Lagunitas IPA bottle by playing $1 Video blackjack. No way I was going to touch $1 VP since I am a tightass. I'm not sure if the bartender at MB was supposed to comp me that because the Monte Carlo wouldn't comp that or Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA at the Sports Bar. The best Monte Carlo offered me, imo, was Newcastle and Bud Light Platinum (to get ya drunk...lol). Mirage let me have any 12 oz beer on tap comped at the Sports Bar which included Goose Island IPA.

All CET properties whose casino's bars I checked have Sierra Nevada at the bar now (Gustav's-Paris on tap, Sully's-Bally's in bottles, and Catalyst-Quad on tap). Venetian's sportsbook bar also has Sierra Nevada in a bottle. The Catalyst bar is particularly noteworthy because they also had Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA on tap (which I believe they would have comped), but they were out at the time I was there dammit. :( Also off the Flamingo casino floor there is Sin City Brew Co. that also comps beers while playing their 8 or so bartops. It's a pretty good place to play if you are looking for somewhere quieter.

But since I was immediately tipping and threw $20 into the machine, they all didn't care if I shortplayed 25 cent VP. Actually this was my experience for all the Strip properties that I tried to play at the bar. Playing max on these terrible paying machines easily increases hourly losses. Monte Carlo's and Venetian's sportbooks best machine: 6/5 Bonus (96.87% max), All CET bars I tried: 7/5 Triple Bonus Plus (97.67% max) next best was 8/5 DDB (96.79% max) I believe, and Mirage Sports Bar was: 30/6/5 Bonus w/Prog (96.15% max before Prog...seriously).

If you want good VP at the bar along with decent beer, as others have said, you have to get off the strip for sure. Casino Royale has 8/5 Bonus at the bar for quarters, but I have no idea what you can get there.
