Going to Vegas in Sept. Wife, me & 8 yr old son. I know what most will say but he has to go with us. My oldest son who lives there is getting married and the little one is in the wedding. Was wondering which Strip Resorts would be best with a young one. I use to go once or twice a year but have not been in about 10-11 years.

You'd probably be best staying at either Excalibur, NY-NY, or Circus Circus. Depends on your budget i guess. Have a great trip

Guess I should have mentioned not a fan of Circus Circus or Excalibur either really. Looking for something nice but not most expensive.

Can you give us a budget per night? I'm assuming you're going over a weekend?

I would maybe consider a non-smoking, non-casino condo type hotel like Vdara, Elara or Signature with a child.

I don't approve of kids in vegas, but in your case, it makes sense that you have to do it. With that said, I'd consider a place where you don't really have to walk through the casino much to get around. MGM comes to mind -- you can go from checkout right to the elevators and you don't have to cut through the casino to get to the pool. The lazy river portion of the pool is relatively kid friendly as long as he's supervised.

Also, walking the strip isn't nearly as bad for kids between MGM and PHo and that area as it is on the other side of the road. You've got the M&M store and the Coke store right there, and you can walk across the bridge to the arcade at NYNY, again without having to cut through the NYNY casino.

Additionally, you've got the food court right in MGM with several options that are going to appeal to a kid.

Check out the MGM Signature on VRBO. They have their own pools, but you can use the pool at the MGM (which is a kid's paradise). The Signature is connected to the MGM casino (it's all built on the same block), so it's on the strip but off the strip.

Alternatively, THEhotel might be good. It's all suite, no casino, but connect to Mandalay. It shares a pool with Mandalay, which is another kid's paradise.

Runner ups would be Vdara (all-suite, no casino, connected to the Aria through a valet) and the Mandarin Oriental (upscale no casino hotel in the City Center complex).

Thanks for all of your ideas. We will be staying 5 nights (Wed-Mon). We will have a sitter 1 or 2 nights since his grandmom will be coming even though she has her own room where she stays on her yearly visits. Kind of want Strip with casino so when wife and son go to bed I can go downstairs for a while. Just really not sure if any say no kids at all. I believe Bellagio was this way or still is. Sister and her husband plus niece and her husband will all be coming. I'm really not worried about things to do with the little one since my oldest moved ther when he was 7 so on my yearly visits he and I had plenty to do without all the debauchery. The youngest has seen all my Vegas pictures and there is a lot he wants to see already.
    Thanks again for all ideas.

You don't have to apologize for bringing a kid to Vegas unless you are bringing them to be entertained by the porn slappers or watch you play slots. :wink2:

I would think Mandalay Bay would be a good choice for a casino hotel and the Signature and Elara would be good for a condo-style hotel. Some families find the latter easier with kids. But at the end of the day, it depends a lot on the wedding arrangements. If the wedding is at a strip hotel, it may be easiest to stay at it or at one of it's neighbors.

As another noted, NO need whatsoever to apologize for how and where you want to travel with your kids. Last time I checked this was America, not the USSR.

Suggestions for "lesser" or non-casino properties are great. Just because Circus Circus chose to decorate with horrid themes does not, in my estimation, make places like CC or the Trashy Castle more kid-suitable than other places; they're just tacky. But for me you are more likely to find those off Strip, unless you choose a place like Four Seasons, Vdara or one of the "residential" properties nearby. Unfortunately, places like Vdara are spendy.

Have you thought about going off Strip?

As ken2v said...no need to apologize for bringing your kid to Vegas. As long as you don't expect me to apologize for what I do in Vegas. It is the ADULT playground. Yes...this is America and I have the same rights you do. If I'm drinking a beer and smoking a cigarette and you want to stand by me at the Bellagio fountains ...don't tell me to put my smoke out or chastise me for drinking. I won't apologize when I'm out on the strip at midnight or 1 or even 2 am doing whatever adults do. Children should be in bed...I'm not the one teaching YOUR kid values....maybe you should go to bed before 1am and viset Vegas while it's daytime.

The only negative for THEhotel is that to get to the pool you have to walk across the Mandalay Bay casino floor.
If you decide to stay at the MB property, I recommend either Mandalay Bay or Four Seasons (Four Seasons has a nice selection of suites, but rates are higher than MB or THEhotel) rather than THEhotel to avoid walking the child through the casino to get to the pool complex.

Walking through the casino floor isnt the worst thing in the world, its a casino not a crack house, plus you can always walk around the edges.

I am bringing a 7 and a 10yo in August and just switched from Mandalay to TheHotel just so we can have a suite. I wanted to stay at one of the nicer resorts. The pool and lazy river sealed the deal. The walk to the pool at MGM was a killer and I hate the casino (too cluttered).

Interestingly, I hate when I see most kids at a casino because most parents are inconsiderate idiots that dont pay attention. If your kid is well-behaved, no one will care and you can stay anywhere. I have seen kids at Le Cirque better behaved than some adults (not saying its not a waste of money, but not crazy)

We took our kids a few years ago. They were 8 and 11....they had a great time, and I'm not sorry we took them. My parents were with us so it made it fun and easy. My son (now almost 15) jokes about the "boobie cards" that were all over the ground and my daughter still remembers getting her picture with the lion cub at MGM....great memories.

Would we take them again just the 2 of us? No, we both enjoy playing too much and would end up in a divorce if we had to decide who was going to play and who wasn't. It's always nice to have annother family memebr there who doesn't mind hanging with the kids while you're spinning reels.

I look forward to taking them again when my son turns 21 (daughter will still be 19 but...) and we can enjoy it in a different way.

I do agree tho with some here that bringing babies and toddlers to Vegas just doesn't make much sense to me. Seeing strollers on the strip at midnight is just not good for the kids. They're too young to enjoy ANY part of it, so why bring them? Seems selfish to me. Wait until they are older...or leave them at home.

Waiting to board at CLT for direct flight to Vegas.... lots of kids, strollers, loaded diapers, testy parents, sitting all around me. I'm thinking; why me, why take small kids to Vegs, OMG it's going to be a nursery flight!

Announcement came over the PA: ".....at this time we will now begin our pre-boarding for parents with small children flight to ORLANDO..." They all jumped up and headed to the gate!!!! Woo Hoo!!!!

Then us adults jumped up and headed to the adult disney world!

You should consider the Tuscany suite, not far from the strip, no casino and a pool.
