After reading some threads on this forum about the Quad, I am pretty sure a hypothetical question of "Quad or Excalibur" is not even a question to most people on this board!

I'm a low-roller and have never stayed at either place (usually stay at Flamingo). I can get 5/5-5/8 for about $130 total at the Quad or Excalibur for about $110 (I have a free night there). So Quad vs. Excalibur...

    Price - Excalibur

    Rooms - Excalibur

Location - Quad (although now that O'Sheas and Bill's are closed it's not as great of a location; plus I am much more familiar with the area given that I have stayed at Flamingo about 10 times)

Casino - ??? (I hated the IP because it smelled so bad, but I've heard the renovated Quad casino isn't too bad. I've never gambled at Excalibur - the place feels like a nicer version of Circus Circus.)

"Fun Factor" - Quad? (I'll be in Vegas with a buddy of mine and we like to gamble, drink and have a good time. We're not there to see shows, eat at fancy restaurants, etc. So I'll give the nod to the Quad because of the location and because it's not a "family" hotel.)

At this point, if I didn't see those darn pictures of that nasty room at the Quad I'd probably be staying there for sure...but they've got me scared! Plus I know nothing about Excalibur other than it looks really hokey.

I'd appreciate any opinions! Thanks!

IMHO I think Excalibur has too many children screaming and idiot parents dragging them around at all hours.... and IP/Quad didnt seem to have as many.

I didnt mind the Quad, after I finally got a room like what was atleast pictured in my booking. That took 3 times of complaining and throwing a hissy fit and 3 rooms later after I threatened that the pictures of the filth would hit the internet on every review site I could find. Just make it clear when you check in...that if you dont get a clean room and one that matches what is pictured for the room type you booked that they will have problems.

I would stay at the Quad. The Excalibur is overrun with kiddies and because your stay will only include drinking, gambling, and who knows what, the mid strip is more appealing. You can stay at the Quad but make Margaritaville Casino your home base. The waitresses there are always on my radar. Also, the resort fee is only $10.

I'm staying at the Excalibur the week after you. Not expecting it to be full of kids in May. We went to Vegas last August...didn't stay at Excalibur...but in general, even it being summer vacation, didn't notice too many kids.

Not a big Excalibur fan, but their remodeled rooms are much nicer than what is offered at the Quad. Location and free comped rooms for CET micro-rollers are the only advantages held by the Quad.

I'd definately pay $110 for Excalibur over $130 for Quad, though it may turn out about equal after tax and resort fees if the fees are not factored in your quoted prices. I believe Excalibur's fees are $5 more per night.

I like Circus Circus' remodeled rooms over both, but I don't spend any time in their property beyond room time.

If anyone cares, I just got back from my trip a few days ago and the Excalibur beats the Quad ten times out of ten. I actually stayed at the Quad for a night and Excalibur for 3 nights. If you have booked any time at the Quad and plan to spend more than 5 minutes in your room (and not shower or use the bathroom) then I urge you to RUN to cancel your reservation. The Quad is quite frankly the most disgusting place I have ever stayed in. I'd give more details but they've been covered in various threads - I'm just confirming that the rumors are true. The rooms are complete crap, though the casino is decent. :)

As for Excalibur, the rooms were no different than the cheap rooms at Flamingo. The casino does the job and the Ex has a nice tram to Luxor and Mandalay Bay (not to mention short walks to NYNY, Trop, Hooters, Monte Carlo).

Just thought I would follow up on my original post by taking the time to say, in my opinion, don't ever stay at the Quad and consider Excalibur if you're on a tight budget.

Thanks to those who replied to my post! Hopefully I won't have to wait another three years for my next trip to LAS!

I too just got back, stayed at Excalibur. I liked my room a ton (28th floor in tower 1) and it far exceeded my expectations. Having said that, this trip cemented one thing for me and that is that I far prefer center strip. I just never got into the vibe of the Excalibur casino, in fact I spent more time at Luxor, NYNY and Monte Carlo for my gaming. I just feel too far away from "the action" that I enjoy when I am not at center strip. It has been a couple years since I stayed in a room at the IP, and I have a buddy who was just in the rooms at the Quad a month ago and he too thought they were disgusting. However, we both have enjoyed what they have done and are doing with the casino at The Quad.

The rooms at excal are likely to be slightly cleaner than those at the quad

If you liked the Tower I rooms at Excalibur you should try to Tower II rooms next time...the contemporary rooms (remodelled). The upgrade is only $10 a night and so worth it! If you have a long stay then you should be able to get the upgrade using the $20 trick.

IMHO it just depends on which company you want to get comps from. If you are a Toatal Rewards guy go with The Quad, If you ar an M Life guy go Excalibur.

Thanks for the tip on Tower II, I have heard the same. I will keep that in mind should I find myself staying there again in the future. At this point, I don't see that, but you never know. lol

And about the comps, you are exactly right. If you have a preference to mlife over Total Rewards, or visa-versal, then that should go into the decision making. It was for me on this trip.

I've stayed at both, and didn't have problems with either FWIW.

Don't know where you're getting your rates but try hot deals on the casino web site.

Week night rates (Sun-Thur) as low as $20. Weekends around 60 to $90, just because it's on the strip.

    Check Expedia as well.

Depends on where your room is located and if it's been renovated. We always check out the room before taking the bags up, and if it's not good we ask for a different room.

There are 2,543 rooms in the hotel.
