Just thought this was an interesting question... We never started going to Vegas until after we had kids and we make it our "escape" from normalcy weekend once or twice a year. We are blessed to have my parents close and they happily keep our kiddos for the 3-4 days we are gone. They usually take them somewhere too -- like this time they are taking them to San Diego. I realize that some families aren't as lucky as we are, so I was just wondering....those of you with kids under the age of 18, what do they do while you are enjoying yourselves in Vegas?

Well I don't have kids, but when I was younger (12-15 y/o) I would travel with my father to vegas quite often. When he would want to go gamble he would sometimes let me order a movie and hang out in the room. Other times he would take me to the arcade and give me $40, we would set a designated spot (usually near the arcade entrance) and would met there after a designated time (usually a hour), if he wanted to continue gambling then he would give me another $40 and we would go another hour.

This worked well back because he liked to gamble at Excal, New York, and Luxor and at the time all three had great arcades. These days Luxor doesn't have the arcade it once had...but Excal has the fun dungeon and New York has a decent arcade.

Several times he would come over after the hour and say he is doing great and they are saving his spot at the table, give me $40 and run back to the table. Sometime I would say I am having a great time and want to keep playing and he sometimes would hang with me and play in the arcade or go back and gamble some more. And sometimes we would both be ready to go to a different casino.

He would also sometimes go gamble at night when I was asleep.

We never really had a hard time with me being underage

We couldn't afford to go when my daughter was young...our first trip was when she was in high school. She stayed with the grandparents. She stayed with them the 2nd trip and after that she was off on her own. Now she's in her 30s married with 2 children...so it costs me $100 every trip in Margarettaville and M & M tshirts!

I have been going since I was like 2/3. My son has been going since he was 5 months old.. He comes along, and since he is now only 2, he stays in the hotel at the pool, or in the family friendly places like Excalibur, Circus Circus, NYNY.. never interrupting people..

Luckily my parents live a block from me and even closer for the kids to go to school. They walk already, and my parents backyard backs up to the schools yard. They are keeping them (twins age 14, and a 12 year old) for the 6 days we will be there. Luckily they ride a bus to their football games, so if they are away ones while we're gone the parental units won't have to worry about that.
They are quite pissed that they can't go with us tho and refuse to look at any pictures of anything to do with Vegas since they can't go. LOL

We've balanced things out by taking some trips with my parents....one time all of us, I've gone 3 times with my mom and my husband went on a boys trip with my dad. Sometimes we'll jaunt up to OK when we need a casino fix for a day and the other grandmother watches them for us. It keeps everybody happy and always planning the next trip!

My mother spends the time at my home with them. Both my mother and the kids look forward to this time, which allows me to relax and not feel like I ditched the kids. If school is out, she takes them to her home and they make a little vac out of it.

Our two don't like the word "kennel", so we refer to it as "sleep away camp" ;)

My kids ages 13 and 10 actually want to go to Vegas. They're interested in the lights, weird architecture, and buffet eatings, so they're coming along. My husband doesn't gamble so he'll be with them when I am not. Staying at the Orleans for the bowling, theatre, and proximity to Red Rocks (kids want to see the desert), so I figure I'll just pull some all-nighters while the 3 of them sleep :)

Ditto for me with the wife. She hates Vegas, but I always offer to bring her, she always says "spend my flight money on a purse".....works great!

Also helpful for me is that early on in the marriage we agreed on having 2 kids. Later she decided she wanted a 3rd and I said OK as long as I can go to Vegas whenever I want. Boom. I got a best little buddy, the siblings got a playmate, and I got Vegas impunity. The rare win-win-win....except of course for the wife. lol. :Þ
