Vdara Hotwire or direct?

Hi all. Just planned a last minute trip 5/24 - 5/28 and I'm trying to get the best deal at Vdara. We snagged some Garth Brooks tickets so my dates really aren't flexible.

My 13 year old is tagging along on this trip so we really would like a room with a pull out sofa. But maybe she could sleep on the sofa that isn't a pull out. (have to ask for extra sheets)

I'm not sure what the heck is going on on the 25th but prices are crazy pricey for the hotels this night. Is it just because it is memorial day weekend?

I can get a regular suite via the vdara website for $1171.

I can get it on hotwire (I think it is Vdara - South 5* with no casino listed in amenities) for $885 total.

My question is, what are my chances of using the $20 trick to get upgraded to a suite with a sofa bed if we use Hotwire? Has anyone had any luck doing this at Vdara?

 

That's Memorial Day Weekend, one of the busiest all year in Vegas.

You may able to tip for an upgrade if you arrive early, but nothing's guaranteed that weekend. I would plan on doing at least $40.

 

We don't arrive early. 8:15 at night.

 

Yikes so expensive! Yea go for Hotwire, it's the same thing, and they don't care how you booked, it's not going to say on their screen how much you paid if you used Hotwire. $20 trick could work, they have a lot of one bedrooms there, but yes if it's busy there just may not be something to upgrade you to. But their regular rooms are still technically suites, so it's not like it's terrible. You have to go in being happy with the room you have, then it's a nice surprise if you get upgraded.

I see it on Hotwire it's coming up $759 ($159 a night) right now actually.

If you aren't 100% set on Vdara:

You could also try bidding on Priceline 5 star, strip south, there is a chance you could end up with Aria or Cosmo though if you are ok with that. Might be able to shave a little more off the price.

Also as another option. Priceline Express deals I'm seeing 5 star North Strip with a casino for $153, with their promo code READYSET5, it's $676. That would be either Wynn/Encore, Venetian or Palazzo (Arguably all better than Vdara!). Or Trump for $637, which is very similar to Vdara if you don't mind the location.

I really just wanted somewhere with two beds or a king and a sofa bed. We could technically all fit in a King bed but my sleep would surely be affected. We stayed at Vdara in Jan and really enjoyed escaping the craziness of Las Vegas at the Vdara. I don't think it is worth another $500 to book directly though.

That is a good deal. Wynn/Encore would be good since that is where the concert is. Does Wynn have rooms with two beds?

 

I would call the hotel and ask if they will match the offer. It is always better to book through the hotel directly. In my experience there is less flexibility when you book a specific room through discount travel sights.

 

Wynn does have 2 bed rooms, so does Venetian/Palazzo. Can't guarantee it though if you get it on Priceline, they charge extra for them usually. Trump does have pull out couches. I guess you could always ask for a rollaway?

 

veneatian rooms have pull outs in the rooms so that might work,

ps if you book direxct you will always have more power than a 3rd party booking especaily hotwire or priceline,so if you have to have something specific always book directly

Yea, this would be the problem with booking via a Priceline Bidding/Express Deal or Hotwire. You can't guarantee bed types when using those sites. I've only once saw the option to guarantee a bed type on Hotwire and there was an additional charge of $20 a night or something.

As for the $20 trick... I don't know that it would work at Vdara, but you could always try. Personally though, Vdara just doesn't seem like the kind of hotel I'd try that at.

Like someone else said, I'd sign up for the Vdara/MLife emails. I always get great deals from them for Vdara. Just last week I got an email from Vdara for the 2 free show tickets, plus I think 15% or 20% off room rates.

 

I'm Pearl with Mlife and do get their emails. Their prices online weren't great. It was almost $1200 for there regular room. That Saturday was over $400 if I remember correctly. A friend of mine told me to call them because the phone agents have different pricing than the website. I'll call them today.

In Jan we did the $20 trick with them and we were upgraded from a regular corner suite to an executive (2nd bathroom) with a nice fountain view.

When looking at my latest offer from them, I can't book that Saturday. I can book the 26-28 in a City Corner Suite for $352 ($232 Sunday night, $120 Monday night) and that includes the 2 free show tickets. For some reason that Saturday is really expensive everywhere it seems, must be because of the holiday weekend.

 

Not sure if this was suggested but you might want to consider joining mlife.com to check the price at Vdara. It tends to be cheaper than most travel sites, usually.

 

Not sure if I should start a new thread or not. I might get more responses by asking: Aria vs W/E or V/P.

Just got off the phone with Aria via Mlife and the price with them is $790.72 for the 4 nights. Basically I need to decide between $790 (inclusive of taxes and fees) for Aria and $788 for a Priceline Hotel (inclusive of taxes and fees) that would be W/E or V/P.

I'd be happy with either and I didn't realize that if I called I'd get a better rate than what the website shows. Now I'm in a quandary.

We've never stayed at W/E or Aria so that's a plus. V/P just has so much to do that that makes that a plus. Aria is more centrally located.

Any opinions would be greatly welcome and let me know if I should start a new thread.

 

Vdara is exactly where you want to try the $20 trick, get the cheap studio room, and very good chance you can score a 1 bedroom upgrade because they have so many! Same with Trump, high success rates. The regular hotels have 3000 regular rooms and a few hundred suites if that, you odds aren't as good. That's my thought on it.

What are your dates? MLife price isn't always the lowest... That seems to be around $150 a night.. ish, if it's a busy time and over a weekend that seems fairly accurate. Check the promotion codes on smartervegas.com and see if it's any lower.

 

5/24 - 5/28 Yes, I've tried smartervegas and their least expensive is a little over $1K Memorial Day Weekend so I guess I'm lucky to get the price they quoted me.
