I've only stayed at the Golden Nugget in a Rush Tower room. I also took a peek inside a Carson Tower room. The Carson room was very clean, but I didn't like the decor.

Which hotel has the best standard room downtown? A nice bathroom is a plus too! Thanks family.

Check out the photo of the remodeled room on The D website. We stayed there last year. The bed was very comfortable. Bathroom not luxurious but clean and had lots of counter space.

The D looks pretty good to me. I've also looked at some downtown spots on oyster.com.
I'm also watching the discussion of MSS vs Cal also. I like both of these properties and havegot some decent rates from Bconnected.

My top picks would be :
Plaza, MSS, Cal, The D, and El Cortez tower rooms.

The El Cortez has rock bottom prices and I enjoy the casino. But I don't mind taking bob (bottle o' beer) for a walk there either.

    I don't mind paying $ 15 more a night for a better room.

Several people here have spoken highly of the Cabana Suites at the El Cortez.
AND ... if you have the LVA coupons, there's one for $45 for 2 nights there.

El Cortez Cabana Suites - Super Suite is my favorite "affordable" room downtown. I'd put the Rush Tower standard rooms as a great splurge for standard accomodations. Plaza rooms have gotten abused quickly since the remodel.

If there is less door slamming at the cabana suites I would try them next trip.

I just stayed at el cortez in a tower room and maybe it is just because I spent a lot of time in the room this trip but doors were slamming all the time.

I realize that this is usually due to ignorant people but even if you tried to close the door quietly it was still pretty loud.

I noticed that in my tower stay as well. You hardly ever see anyone in Cabanas.....

Plaza rooms are nicest I have stayed in Downtown they are big and the furniture is brand new and looks great. For the price I am yet to see anything better. I advise you stay South tower and get the view facing south its not noisy from Fremont St there.

Yeah, I've stayed in the cabanas a couple of times now... Never had any noise issues at all.

I'll add my vote for the Cabana suite. Lots of things you don't get at most Vegas properties downtown or otherwise: a large bathroom, free access to the fitness center, a mini-fridge, and free wifi. The free fruit and candy in the lobby is just a bonus. Stayed four times now and never had a problem with noise from other rooms.

Of course Cabana suites aren't exactly standard rooms, but they're priced like they are.

I couldn't agree more. The only reason I can't do the Tower rooms at El Co is the incessant door slamming. The walls are very thin and even a regular close sounds like a slam. I usually sleep like a rock and found myself waking up throughout the night in this room.

I never noticed the noise in the Cabana suites, so if you're doing El Co I'd recommend getting a room there.

Yep. Spent 2 nights/3 days there and other than the front desk person, and outside guard I didn't see another guest. Love the place.

I would like to consider MSS or Fremont but those wooden looking blinds that dont keep out light would be a no go for me.

I agree. We love MSS but I dont get those blinds. There are times you want to black out the room after staying up all night , but those blinds dont do the trick.

IMO, The Plaza has the nicest rooms downtown. I have stayed there several times over the past couple years and find them to be very nice. I have also stayed at the Cabana Suites at El Cortez and thought they were very cool! I would recommend either of those.

After you close the shutters and I have found that closing them down gives a better closure, take your hand and run it over the shutters. That really closes them up quite well. Just using the stick in the middle doesn't do the trick.

The Western used to have the best standard rooms downtown.

Behind that, I'd say the rooms at the D are your best bet. VERY liberal comps there if you play even a bit.

The standard Fremont room is perfect for me. I just wish they'd do something about those ridiculous shower heads.

Me three. My last stay at MSS I remember shoving something against one set of them to help keep them tightly closed. I think it was my suitcase propped up on a chair.

I agree that those shutters are terrible for blocking out light.

we also stayed at the d awhile back and the room was pretty quiet as far as I remember.

too bad about the towers at el cortez being so noisy other than that it was a great room.
