I am wondering is there a way to book a southwest vacation and only book the hotel for part of the trip?

If there is, I am not seeing it...

The only way I am aware of doing it is booking the flight, and then using the option of adding hotel. Sometimes there are some good deals, usually not anymore though.

No, but if the deal is good enough it might be worth it to leave that room empty for a night or two. I've done that a couple of times when the room wasn't where I wanted to be and I had a comp elsewhere.

Did you actually find a deal that is cheaper together?

Yes, the last one, a two day trip with a room at Bally's before the resort fee went into effect. Room plus airfare was cheaper than airfare alone, so I checked into Bally's, checked out the view from the room, then headed down to my comped room at Four Queens (I wanted to be downtown). I checked out of Bally's on my way back to the airport. Deals like this are rare, but they do happen.
