On Oct. 12, 2012, Justin Teixeira is accused of killing a helmeted guinea bird.

It was at 9:30a.m. and the two law students were seen running into the bushes of the Bird Habitat and came out playing with the dead bird.

The law student that didn't kill the bird confessed that he was guilty and was given a slap on the hand by giving himce. a fine and has to do community service.

Justin Teixeira, faces felony charges of killing the bird. He is supposed to be
going to a hearing to see if he should stand trial in court in the State of Nevada.

I personally met with one of the witnesses who saw the two students playing ball with the dead bird. The witnesses were the workers from the Flamingo Hotel Habitat. They are in the habit of feeding all the birds and fish approx.
at 8:30a.m. because I saw them feeding the birds around that time.

The witness told me about that one student who just got a slap on the hand
    with minor charges.
The killer Justin Teixeira, Berkeley Law student would be going to court on
April 23rd or April 24, 2013, in Las Vegas.

I would like to know more information if Justin Texieira will be standing trial
for the killing of the bird. If anybody hears any new information please let us bird lovers and animal lovers know if any new info. LucyR.

Oh, it is, but at some point you gotta think about time/dollars/results in a world truly gone mad.

And ruin his career, his life? Let god or karma or whatever sort out his personal hell, certainly do something to the guy, but let's also have a reality check. If he's such a cracker-jack student at one of the best law schools in the country, make him do some pro bono work for PETA or Greenpeace or whomever, as in more than a few hundred hours.

    Stupid. Drunk. Young.

He didn't rape a girl. He didn't kill anyone.

yeah, I agree felony is over the top for this. I know people who have felony convictions for minor stuff they did when they were young and stupid. they're paying for it for the rest of their lives, which really isn't fair for them and wouldn't be fair in this case either.

Being young and drunk is no excuse. If you go into a flamingo habitat and cut off one of the bird's heads and toss the body around you're simply a deranged psychopath. Being drunk has nothing to do with it. That's like blaming video games for psychopaths that shoot up schools. A pitiful excuse that never applies to the other 99.9999% of people so it has no basis. I went to a top school too and if he's charged with a felony they wouldn't have accepted him in the first place. I wouldn't be surprised if he's still in violation of their code of conduct and has difficulty graduating anyway much less being admitted to the bar.

I don't want it involved in any aspect American courts beyond defendant status.

Felony conviction and lifetime sex offender status for indecent exposure taking a drunken piss alone in an alley - over the top. Felony animal cruelty for this case? If not this case than what case?

Thank you SMO for the newspaper information

I am interested to know what the final outcome will be on this case.

The law student plans to say he is not guilty on May 13th.

I know for a fact that the Flamingo Hotel plans to charge him with killing the bird that was the property of the Flamingo Hotel. That is what I heard the female witness who works for the Habitat say that is what Flamingo is taking into consideration. I don't know what else the student will be charged of doing possibly invading the private area of where the birds were located at which was not a public area for people to walk into.

Then on July 24th, 2013, the law student will go to trial on animal cruelty
and torture of the bird he killed. I think that will doom the student because there may be some new laws that protect animals that I don't know about.

It will be very interesting for us to see what punishment the bird killer gets.

The bird's name was Turk. Since all of the birds have their wings clipped so they can't fly.... it must have tramatized the other birds that felt helpless to seeing or hearing the bird being killed. Birds do have feelings and can sense danger but they all couldn't fly away. LucyR.

Unfortunately our criminal justice system will probably go light on this guy and he won't get much more than a slap on the wrist like his friend. A felony charge with the maximum jail time for animal torture under the Nevada statute should be given if they really did what's been described. This doesn't even include the charges for destroying Flamingo Hotel's private property -- and expensive property at that since those were show birds who had been with the hotel for a long time.

That's the reality check. Letting him slide just because he didn't kill or rape anyone is a great way to let criminals walk free and a pathetic standard to use for our criminal justice system.

Sorry - NO sympathy for this asshole. Although my solution is a bit more straightforward. Just tattoo the words "I Abuse Animals" on his forehead. Substitute in "women" and "children" as necessary.

I've been watching those Drugs Inc documentaries. When I saw this story when it happened it got me thinking. No excuse at all but I think those guys were on some kind of synthetic drugs that are in a grey area legally and sold in gas stations and variety stores. Remember the Florida face eater?

    Hello Lola

They could have taken some drugs but I don't think they were tested for drugs since they were drunk with alcohol.

I think that the bird killer has killed chickens by twisting their necks. I used to see people kill chickens by doing that on farms.

I went to see Justin's facebook and he likes to play baseball and other stuff.
This is why he was playing catch with his partner in crime.

His major mistake was in killing a bird that was not his property. I think he was just having fun not taking into consideration that he was on private property and that bird was not his to kill. He is a country boy from Placerville.

If Justin had confessd right away that he was guilty to the police he would have gotten a slap on the hand and just pay the Flamingo Hotel for property
damage of the bird he killed.

Some lawyers say deny, deny, deny......
I think Justin may say that the bird was already dead. "The glove doesn't fit."

The accused bird killer if convicted deserves the felony charge and should be forced out of law school. Case closed.

Anything less only illustrates the kind of society we live in and the moral depravity we have sunken to.

    Have a nice day.

The Flamingo Hotel Bird & fish Habitat

I have fond memories of seeing the birds and the fish having fun in their Habitat. I especially enjoyed seeing the "Three Amigos" small ducks hanging
out with eachother. They were sooo cute. They wouldn't allow any other ducks
    to join them.lol.

I also went to see the birds sleeping at mid-night when I stayed at the Flamingo.

I am happy to say that the hotel didn't put high wire fences like in a zoo.
I plan to stay at the Flamingo Hotel again in the future so I can go see
the " three Amigos" ducks again.

Nobody has the right to invade a privately owned place and kill their animals.

I have noticed in the news that even pet owners who kill their pets are put in
jail or punished for their crimes by a court of law.

The Child Welfare laws got started in America because the Animal organizations started to rescue children from abusive parents. LucyR.

Why is it that people think it's ok for this to happen because they were drunk and it was only a bird? To many people think that abuse of animals is acceptable and i hope they get what's coming to them.

Not sure anyone is saying it is OK. Some, like me, simply are saying we don't see it as black or white.

We MASS kill animals for food, and while Upton Sinclair might not be so aggrieved if he was here today, there is no way anyone can tell me every beaked or hoofed animal that is raised and slaughtered so we can eat -- wear leather, whatever -- goes out after living a wonderful coddled life and a pain-free end.

That this is out-and-out wanton destruction DOES mean the guy needs to face some kind of punishment.
