So rant here: Today I went with family to the Guitar festival in Dallas. The parking was tight...the spaces were small. I pulled into a space that was between the lines and between 2 other cars. To AVOID hitting the cars next to me with our doors....I let 2 people out before pulling in and then afterwards I opened my back hatch and crawled out. I could've gotten out through my door but it was windy and I didn't want to take the chance of damaging someone's car.

Hours later I come back to a note on my window "Thanks for the door ding asshole....good luck finding yours...."

Really? He should've drawn an arrow to the ding he left because nothing looked out of the ordinary but...seriously, how rude!

    car dents.

Many years ago a truck banged the back of my car and I was left with a dent.
The trucker gave me wrong information so it was my loss.

Two years later someone at work leaves me a note stating that "MY CAR went and banged his car." I wrote him a note that MY CAR would never leave
it's parking spot without my permission. lol. Then I explained what happened to my car two years ago. I never heard from that person again.lol.

There are many times that I return to my parked car and see new scratches,
car colors on my on the side of my car, tiny dents, etc.
I always try to avoid parking too close to other cars but yet I find marks on
my car doors and side of car. We never know when or how it happens.

Until they pass a law that allows us to export some people we are just going to have to learn to live with them. :peace:

Tell me about it. Just got my car back from the repair shop last week from a softball size door dent that scratched the paint all the way down to the metal. It was at Costco, and we think that someone was trying to push a cart between the two cars, and then suddenly determined it wouldn't fit after the leading edge wedged itself into my rear door. Only was in there an hour, and $800 later, I finally have my car back to how it was before the a-hole did the damage (of course no note)

Don't let it get you down.

It's nice to see that some of the social niceties haven't been completely lost. You got a note from a total stranger! Hallmark should make a line of cards for this. When you care enough to send the very best. There's a website out there, I think it's called passive aggressive notes. If you still have the note you should post it there.

For the last 13 years I've driven a Saturn. Plastic dent proof body panels are truly awesome. Our new 2nd car is not a Saturn because they don't make them anymore. I actually have to think about where and how I'm parking it. But, it's really little so I can put it at an angle if it's a spot that's ripe for a door bang. Having said that, we don't buy expensive cars that we care about and baby. We buy a cheap car and run it into the ground for 10 years. Which isn't to say we don't do good maintenance. In the next few years, when this Saturn has had enough of us I'm thinking about getting my first nice car that I care about the paint finish and stuff like this makes me wonder if it's worth it. My karma sucks really bad so any car that I care about would be the one to get nailed really good, repeatedly.

It's amazing how one asshole can override the fact that the other nine of 10 are great folks. And sadly I now think that one is now two or three.

Got a little nick on my Ridgeline the other day because some prick was too all important to wheel the cart 10 feet to the corral.

However, I will say ... having moved to a small town, out of the chaos of So Cal, it is amazing how much more polite people are, and particularly drivers. You can sit at a four-way for hours because everyone is insistent someone else go first. lol

I envy people who don't (like me) think the ratio is exactly opposite of that.

I've found the solution to people dinging your car: Don't give a $#%t. Seriously, I can count on on hand the number of times I've washed my 2002 pickup as well as the car before it..lol. I call it a protective layer of dirt. I mean, I do hate it when people are careless, but since I don't lift a finger to pretty up the outside of my car it seems to stress me out much less when they ding it. I mean, I'm still pissed at the people for being a-holes (because I always am when they are) but I don't care about the car specifically.

Somebody told me a story a while back about how every time the family got a new car the dad would go outside, take his key and scratch the paint and then go "Ok, its not brand new anymore so we don't have to worry about messing it up" LOL

My father took a hammer to every new car he bought. He'd make a big deal out of it. Like a ceremony or ritual. It drove my mother insane. He would smack the car on the driver's side with "the hammer" and then exclaim that we could now park anywhere we wanted. Every new car she'd be like "you're not hitting this one" and he'd be like "OK, I won't hit this one" but he would. My father washed the car for weddings and funerals. I'm sure it was on the list of 2843 reasons my mother eventually threw my father out. It was a very mismatched marriage in a lot of ways.

I miss cars with chrome and rubber or big black plastic bumpers. A lot easier to park a car with those bumpers. If I was a car designer, that would be the first thing I would do. The second being plastic body panels like the Saturn.
