Queen Vic Pub @ Riv Closing

The Queen Victoria Pub @ Riviera is closing the end of April. It is said to be moving elsewhere.

My assessment is that the Riviera does not generate sufficient revenue. Their lease was probably up for renewal and they decided not to extend. The Riviera is still writing red ink every quarter so if I owned a business inside that resort I would also not renew.

Too bad really as I still have a Restaurant.com coupon for QVP that I was hoping to use in June.

 

I thought this place had just opened?

 

Also, the location was horrible. You really had to hunt to find it. We also have a restaurant.com gift certificate and decided to pass once we finally found it because it just seemed sad. What Riviera should really do is completely re-do that sad food court and make it something interesting because it has such prime real estate.

 

based on my experiences at the Riv the past couple of years, i don't know now any business makes it inside that joint, other than perhaps the sundries shop. that food court always looks sad and depressing. i'm sure it's modestly busy on major dates, but whenever i'm there it's quiet. the only way you can make money running a business in the Riv is if your rent is free, i swear to god. how the tattoo place in the back of that joint stays in business i can't imagine. reputation is everything in the tattoo biz, typically, but in vegas half of the business has to be impulse, and who gets a tattoo impulse while at the Riv?

not surprised the pub wants the hell out. the Riv has been on a long slide toward irrelevance. not sure what the magic formula is to make it an attractive destination, but it can't continue down the road it is. that road will dead end.

 

The Riviera, Sahara, and The STRAT has succumbed to the new Vegas which is from Wynn/Fashion Show Mall, all the way south to Mandalay Bay. It never used to be like this, the Strip was frequented by people, including me, who would stay and gamble at Sahara, Riviera, and Stardust. But in the mid to late 80's, the Strip changed. Gone or soon to be gone were the tumbleweeds, golf courses, and parking on the Strip. Many people now don't bother to frequent the North strip, it's just too far away. I used to spend lots of time at the Stardust and Riviera way back when. Obviously some people still stay and play at Riviera, but it just isn't the same. Maybe if/when the new resorts open in a few years near the Stardust, there will be new blood on the North strip which will make it more worthwhile.

 

I prefer quiet places. No wait for drinks. No people breathing down my neck / budging in @ the tables. Dealers and bartenders who have time for a chat.

The middle & south Strip are fun but only for so much.

Anyway: 2 months until my next Vegas trip.

 

Unfortunately I think tha Riv is destined for the same fate as Saharas..

Yeah, that end of the strip used to be a lot of fun in the 80s. Stardust, The 'Ho, Riv, Sahara and of course the DI. Shoot, even Circus Circus was ok back then. It sure needs a shot in the arm. Hated to see the Stardust close and I really miss the DI. I never really liked the Riv, but the QVP was a good place to grab a drink. Hopefully the Echelon, or whatever it is going to be called, will soon get rebooted and that end of the strip will be reinvigorated.
