Vegas in July?

I'm thinking of taking my mother to Vegas in late July. She's 60 with some medical issues, minor mobility issues and a Vegas Virgin.

I'll prob get her a scooter to cancel the mobility issues and keep her from getting fatigued too soon.

Is July too hot? Are the crowds larger or smaller than spring?

Anything else I should consider?

Also, it gets hot at home too. It's common to break 100 degrees with high humidity.

 

Crowed and HOT!!! I make it a point not to go from mid June to Early Oct.

 

We like July.
Hot? Yes.
Unbearable? No.
July in Vegas is better than July in Florida.

If you are really that concerned then one idea is to stay at MB, Luxor or Excalibur. This way you can travel between 3 casinos without going outside.
Plenty of gambling options as well as eating options with some shopping in between.

I'm 32, some medical issues and mobility problems too, but I go every year from late June until July 4th weekend.

I used to stay at Palazzo or Wynn, but now I stay down at the Nugget because it's much easier to get around on the scooter, and I like the vibe down at Fremont street too.

I'm from the UK, I don't particularly care for hot weather and probably spend under 2 hours at the pool in 2 weeks each year.

I would say there is nothing to worry about, and I'm sure your mum will have a great time!

 

Just be very careful to keep her hydrated. The last time I took my mom, it was 120 degrees up at the dam. She didnt drink enough water, and ended up in the hospital when we got home. Dehydration is extremely dangerous for elderly, and many times they do not even realize that they are not taking in enough water. Dry heat is great, except for this one issue.

 

Hot = yes.. but like others said just keep her hydrated. 60 is not that old... and with a scooter/lark mobility not an issue.
I thought the casinos were cooler in the summer than the winter. Fla is just unbearable... Vegas nice and dry.. just keep drinking that bottled water.
Pools are crowded, but the rest not so much.. except on major holidays??

If she stays in doors for the most part, no issue. However, I am sure she is going to want to go up and down The Strip which might be an issue.

 

make plans to be in alot of malls or indoors ateast ... prepare for 115 degree weather

 

34 isn't 60 last time I checked.

 

To say it's hot in July is an understatement. It is still over 100 degrees at 3am... It's hard to breathe in the parking garages or walking through construction areas. If your car doesn't have A/C, you may as well just stay inside the same resort or taxi it elsewhere (and hope it has A/C)

 

It's going to be very hot! Historically speaking, the 3rd week in July is the hottest week of the year there. That's when I go, but I live near Phoenix and am used to it!

The crowds will be less than in the spring. Fewer people out in the afternoon time for sure. Just do the casino hop with your mom if it's during the day. All the cocktail waitresses walk around with bottled water on their tray's for whomever is hot and wants one or 2. Even if you aren't playing, they'll gladly give you some to keep you hydrated. Give 'em a buck or 2 for a tip anyways.

Get her the scooter for sure.

We have gone the last many years in July. Very hot. One note, I have noticed a few a few of the shows are dark for some days in late July.

 

if your mom is okay with 100 degrees with high humidity then vegas should be okay for her. vegas has low humidity so 110 degrees in vegas is probably similar to 100 degrees with high humidity, maybe even better.

It will be scorching though. One July I tried to walk from MB up the strip at 10 pm. Even though I walked through some casinos (no city center at the time and no monorail from Monte Carlo to bellagio at the time) by the time I got to CP I was soaked and fatigued (even though I had a bottle of water) and had to take the bus back. I overheated and had a mild case of heat stroke.

Try to keep your mom inside the casinos (shopping centers, etc.) to avoid the heat and try to limit her time outside. if she shows signs of fatigue get her inside asap and keep her away from the heat.
