How Often do you WASTE time IN Vegas?

Figured I would throw a topic out there similar to some of the other recent topics!

So, how often do you find yourself wasting time in Vegas, then getting pissed at yourself about it?

During my last trip in March we ended up at Riviera for 3-4 hours, and by the time we wandered around looking for one of our buddies, playing a few hands of not fun craps, cabs back and forth, we we're kicking our self for the decision on going to Riviera! We had so much fun playing Let it Ride and craps at Bellagio the rest of the night we were so mad at the 3-4 hours we wasted.

Other times I found myself wasting an hour getting coffee in long lines, going back and forth to the room to get stuff I forgot, etc. I need to get better at maximizing my Vegas time and minimizing "wasted hours."

 

We usually stay at the Orleans and rent a car. A couple of years ago, we decided to skip the rental car to save some $$... Which would've been o.k., until we decided to visit Sam's Town. We took the shuttle over to Bill's, then took a city bus to Sam's. Unfortunately, this was in August. And the local bus made a million stops so it took FOREVER. And the A/C wasn't working.

 

I always rent a car, so that I am not feeling "chained" to an area of Las Vegas, and so I don't blow a whole lot of time on shuttles or busses, or a lot of money on cabs.

But those stoplights...

 

Sometimes we have very unstructured trips with no schedule, other times we have a very scheduled trip.

Though at the end I may think, 'Man I wish we woudl have _______'.

I don't get upset that we we didn't do _______, we just plan to do it next time and it ends up as something scheduled in, so we don't miss it.

If you're like a dog that is distracted by squirrels, Vegas offers many things to immediately grab your attention. Though you might have fun chasing those 'squirrels' you will certainly miss the highlights you planned on seeing.

 

We almost never waste any time in Vegas, but that's because we go so often and usually for a week at a time. On the contrary, we often kick ourselves for spending so much time gambling instead of taking a little time out for just about anything else!

 

Always during my solo trips.

I spend a couple hours a day in my room reading the newspaper and watching the news.

 

This is exactly one of the reasons I decided to concentrate my stay/play at one property. Prior to that I stayed in just about every place in town, but never frequent enough at any of them to be "noticed". I stood in line at check in, stood in line to eat, etc. Now I'm happy to say anywhere I go at the Hard Rock, I'm in the "front row"... even at the HRH bars when they get busy, the bartenders motion me over and have my Jack & Coke ready... I love feeling special.

I am a wanderer though and when I do go out to other joints, I don't look at down time as "wasted" time, as much as I do an excusion or adventure... some pay off with fun, others don't, but lesson learned... I don't go back. Example, Wynncore... I love their rooms and service, but not the vibe of their casino. I've tried several times and each time it's just not for me... so now, I know not to gamble there... if I go and have a bad time... shame on me.

I personally define Vegas Waste as questioning myself after I did something.

"Why did I just stand in a 30 minute line for coffee at (INSERT COFFEE PLACE) instead of walking up to an empty bar."

"Why am I sitting at the Heart Bar with my buddy trying to pick up chicks for 2 hours when I really wanted to be shooting dice, and now it's time for our dinner reservation!"


Recovering in my room, cab rides, the entire restaurant experience, etc. is all part of Vegas, agreed.

 

To us, oozing through a hungover stupor would be a "waste" of time, even as the inducing activity is often seen as a good use of time. Now the hours and hours I spend on the course ...

Some people tally hours getting around town on the bus and shuttles because saving money is a good thing. Some rent a car they might not touch for the ease and flexibility afforded. I'd never wait in a buffet line because buffet is not worth a wait, yet for others buffet is definitely worth a wait.

As Sonya noted, it's all relative.

 

My only time I consider "wasted" is the 2-3 hours I sleep every night...........

 

I believe a vacation is meant to provide leisure and relaxation. I like spending my Vegas time open ended, moving at a relaxed / faster pace depending on the mood.

I try to see / stay at / experience at least one or two + "new" things during each trip, and try to work it in when the mood strikes. I never can predict how I will spend most days. Sometimes, I don't expect to gamble much and end up spending 12+ hours gambling / drinking and having a great time. Other times, I end up going to places I never anticipated when the day began.

The only time I consider as "wasted" time is when I wake up unplanned (typically due to guest / maid noise - I am a light sleeper even with earplugs) and I'm not able to go back to sleep but I'm still tired. In Vegas (and elsewhere when not sleeping at home), this happens too often.

 

About the only time I feel I've wasted precious Vegas time is a couple of trips with family and friends.
Way to many instances of waiting to meet up, or even worse waiting for someone to make up their minds about what to do. Time I always think I'll never get back.

 

One of the annual trips to Vegas is with family, a pretty decent sized group that doesn't necessarily travel together. We rent a car (or two) and share the cost, I end up making a few trips to the airport from downtown to pick up or drop-off.

It always sounds easy but then I realize how much time I've spent in the car and realize what a waste of time for me.

 

If time is wasted it usually isn't known until afterward.
We reflect back and decide we could have done things differently, but we learn.
I guess as long as you learn something from it then the times wasn't really wasted.

 

I waste a lot of time but only doing what i want. I am actually enjoying myself but some would say its wasting time.

I like ti hang around the room and watch the local news and other tv shows. Its relaxing and neat to see other people and places on the news.

 

To me, any time on vacation is never actually wasted. I'm not doing any work, and most importantly, I'm not even in the same city as my job. All of this, to me, means no time is wasted. Hell, I'd relish the time watching paint dry if it meant I didn't have to worry about coming in to work anytime soon

I have trouble sleeping 6 hours a night at home, and likewise that turns into 3 hours in Vegas.

 

I don't consider sleep wasted time. In fact, as I am on vacation, it's very enjoyable to sleep all I want. Getting up late and going out for a nice lunch with a beer or two, is the ultimate luxury for me.
But that's Vegas. Everyone does what they want. No point in judging anyone, it's just all good. It's why I love the place.

 

Sometimes on solo trips, if I start the "party" a little too early in the day, I'll come back to the room around 6 or 7 pm to catch my breath and get ready to head out for the evening. Maybe just rest my head on the bed for a minute or so.

And then pass out. And wake up again at like midnight.

I kick myself for wasting over five hours. But at least I'm energized for an all-nighter then.

And the process repeats itself...
