Only ONE Strip resort with no resort fees?!

So I checked out this site called resortfees dotcomm and it shows that there is only ONE Strip property that has no resort fees.

That is insane! This resort fee scam must be quite profitable because everybody and their grandma is getting in on it.

 

its not a scam if you are aware of it.

You just need to factor it into the price when booking.

 

Whatever you think it is, it's an UNDERHANDED way of doing business. I deem resort fees in the same category as the timeshare people, porn slappers and those costumed characters that loiter the Strip and pose for money.

I wished they all disappeared.

No one likes them. There's a split as to whether they are two shades removed from Judasian or simply one of the things that consumers just need to take into account.

Not a single mind has been changed here in all the rhetoric, bad blood and locked resort-fee threads.

 

Changing minds doesn't even matter.

If "A" is in favor of resort fees and "B" is against them, getting them to change their opinions doesn't really matter: its the hotels themselves that decide whether they charge the resort fees or not and right now there are still plenty of people going to Las Vegas and paying resort fees and so having a bunch of people on a few internet forums flogging the dead horse on how they are against resort fees, whether they can change minds or not, isn't going to get the hotels to stop charging for them.

1 - Yes, Resort Fees have been beaten to death. Like em, hate em, tolerate em. Whatever.

2 - Sure would have been nice to include the resort you are talking about.

 

According to the resort fee site they posted it is Elara that is the only place on The Strip without a resort fee.

However, I think LVH, Casino Royale and Skylofts don't have resort fees either.

 

LOL... I know you just threw that number out there, but I honestly think you're pretty damn close!

 

I personally don't see how someone can be upset with a resort fee when you are getting the room comp'd. Also I'm finding more and more that this is not just a Vegas trend.
I have several non gaming trips planned and other Resorts have additional fees as well. They may be in the form of a 15% Resort Tax or a $24 a day parking fee etc. No Biggie!

 

But why do you care? Most thread topics are repeated. The only reason these resort fee threads get locked or go into an infinite back-and-forth loop is because some people decide to criticize the people who criticize the resort fees. You said it yourself that no one likes resort fees. I'm with you that I don't like them but I don't really care either. But a lot of people do care, so let them talk about it or at least just vent. Threads don't need unanimous approval.

That is some twisted logic. By that measure no scam is a scam once people are aware of it, ergo there exist no scams in the world that we're aware of.

 

The thing is, not everyone is aware of it. Many times my newbies-to-Vegas coworkers came back with tales of surprise and frustration upon check-in, some vowing not to return to the city because of it. It's a real kick in the privates when you first arrive, all geared up for some fun, and get told by your hotel that you STILL OWE more money for a hotel you thought was already paid for, and that the building amenities aren't included in the cost of your room. Not everyone is as well-versed on traveling to Vegas as the members here. It's still a valid concern that is impacting whether or not people make LV their consistent tourist destination. It is, quite clearly, a turnoff.

 

In these cases of "Sticker Shock" I get the feeling that someone is going to Vegas who really can't afford it. Which I don't understand.
If an extra $100 in fees is gonna break the bank then maybe that individual should stay home, save their money and plan for a future trip.

 

Fair enough, but once again, I'm referring to unseasoned travelers. Being over-prepared and planning ahead isn't typical behavior for the average American, IMHO. Also, you may be under the assumption that every Vegas visitor comes with a wad of cash to gamble, eat at fancy restaurants, and attend pricey shows. Many are content to chow down at McDonald's and just walk around taking in the sights, so $100 could be a lot of money to them. I have a friend that just recently drove there overnight on a Friday after a full week of work, just so he and wife could take advantage of a babysitter opportunity and get away from the kids for two nights (the first time in many years). The resort fee was a smack in the face.

Not everyone comes to Las Vegas for the same reason.

 

I'm sorry but that's crap. Vegas can't market itself as a budget destination and nickel and dime people to death. Not having unlimited resources doesn't mean that you shouldn't have an opportuinity for some R&R. If there were more truth in advertising across the travel industry, people would have had that extra $100 on them or chosen a better place to visit in the first place.

Totally agree. I just love how the airline industry has made total costs apparent from the first glance - it really makes price-comparison easy. Hotels should be forced to do the same.
