    Good idea

Wandering aimlessly...... that's the perfect way to do Vegas the first time!

Also google "free vegas" and go down that list and see what interests you......

Even on this, my fifth visit, I love to just gawk at all the different casinos and lights. We don't gamble much but we always find a great time in Vegas!

Oh yeah, be sure to eat at at least one buffet (Planet Hollywood is my favorite).... and wear good shoes!

(Speaking of Planet Hollywood, I found this on another board earlier..... fun!)

Always remember to wear comfortable walking shoes, and remember EVERYTHING is farther away than it looks! People watching can be fun also! One last pointer to first timers, WASH your hands often and use the sanitizer where available! People from all over the globe come to VEGAS, they may be full of germs. I got sick once when we got back home, it was a drag. We will be there at the end of May. Have an awesome time!!!

Enjoy! Take it all in...and make sure to do a trip report when you get back. Do what interests you, take good walking shoes, have fun at night and enjoy those lights.

Welcome! I'm excited for you and your upcoming trip. Like they say, everything is farther than it looks so wear comfortable everything. Unless you're downtown, then everything is just as far as it looks, but no farther.

ButterflyMtn's signature message sums it up best. Once you see the lights, you'll never be the same again.

    Enjoy and good luck!

You are going to have the best tiime ever!! My advice to you would be not to try and do everytihing in three days - because you can't! There are so many things to do and see in Vegas that you cannot possibly do them all properly in three days (the first time I went it was for a week and I still didn't get to everything) - so wandering aimlessly is a great strategy (you might want to check out www.vegas.com which has a lot of information on different attractions, restaurants, sights etc so you can have things in the back of your mind to check out as you wander). The great thing about spending those three days in Vegas is that you will have an idea of the layout and where everything you want to do next time is - and there WILL be a next time!

I would not recommend sandals for walking on the Strip. They really don't have the kind of support you need for a lot of walking. The sidewalks are a very hard concrete and you will do a lot of walking no matter where you go (even in a casino you do plenty of walking to get around) so I would wear the most cushioned sneaker or walking shoe you can find. Also, it is important to get a good suntan lotion. The sun is particularly strong in Vegas (it is the desert after all) so you should make sure you are protected to avoid a nasty burn. (I also recommend a very good pair of sunglasses). Can you get suntan lotion at the CVS or Walgreens located along the Strip? Yes, but I guarantee it will be much much cheaper if you buy it at home and pack it in your suitcase.

Water is a must - you should carry a bottle of water with you if you intend to do a lot of walking, but DO NOT buy it from the vendors on the walkways that sell it for a dollar - I have read news reports that some of them take empty bottles and refill them in casino bathrooms to resell them. By adding a dab of glue on the cap it makes it seem as if you are opening a "new" bottle). There are plenty of shops and drugstores along the Strip so you can pretty much pick up anything you might need.

Check the forecast before you leave to see what the projected highs and lows will be, so you have a better idea of what to pack. The last couple of years I have gone at the end of April/Beginning of May and it has been mild during the day but sometimes chilly at night. Definitely bring a track jacket or sweater with you just in case - even when I go in July, when it is 110 degrees, I bring a track jacket because the casinos or showrooms can be extremely cold at times. On the plane at 30,000 feet it can get chilly so it is always a good idea to pack it and have it just in case, instead of regretting not bringing it along.

I would also recommend bringing earplugs - they have been a life saver for me on many occasions when club noise has been an issue or I find myself next door to an out of control bachelor party.

Have a great time. Make sure that you bring a mini first aid kit with you, with bandaids. My first trip out I got blisters from all of the walking, and did not have this. I have packed one every trip since, and it always comes in handy. A light sweater is also needed because the casinos are freezing inside. A cross body purse is the best kind to use. If you carry a big purse around, it gets to be a pain, and with the crowds on the strip, not so safe.

    Most importantly, have fun!

    1. Gambling money! :poke:
    2. If you smoke, bring your own cigarettes! ($10/pack out there) :confused2:
    3. A fews 1s, 5s & 20s for cabs & tips.
    4. Since it's your first time, pack some Nyquill or Ambien or other sleep-aid... everyone I've ever known has trouble sleeping their very first night there.
    Best of luck...have fun!

Great advice about taking a sleep aid while there. I need to try that. Some nights you can't get much sleep and that can mess up your fun a little the next day.

And if you smoke and are downtown, hit the Walgreen's on Fremont. About $6 a pack there.

If you forget Nyquil or Ambien, I've found that Jack Daniels can be a great "SLEEP-AID". Just take it close to your hotel;-)

    First trip 3 days????
The bad news is that you will be overwhelmed that you will feel like you have to leave and there is still lots to do.
The good news is you will be itching to go back and will be making plans for your second trip.
