I go to Vegas once or twice a year. Each trip, I like to hop to many, many different casinos, and maintain a collection of player's club (slot cards) for each place I visit. I bring all active cards with me on each trip to use at each place I visit. I have a collection of over 40 I think, though I do divide them down by downtown, Strip, and off-Strip, to make carrying them with me easier depending on what part of Vegas I visit each day. My last trip was in October and I'm going again soon. On my last visit to The Gold Spike (downtown), I arrived very, very late (something like 4am) in the casino, somewhat inebriated... ...and the stupid machines wouldn't take my card. I kept trying and trying. Finally, I gave up and just played. A half hour later, there was no sign of a cocktail waitress (comped drinks are very important to me), so I hit cash out... had to wait for a hand pay (they don't have TITO - ticket in-ticket out - there at all!) for some small amount... got paid by a security guard... and went to the bar to play video poker. The bar VP wouldn't accept the card, either, and the bartender noticed this and told me that the Siegel Club cards were no longer being accepted, and that they were in the process of changing slot clubs, and he wasn't sure what I was expecting for comps, but he'd be happy to help. All I really wanted was free drinks, and he kept my Guinness pints filled, so I was happy. But my questions are... 1) Does anyone know if they have a new slot club? 2) Did they change owners? No more Siegel Group? 3) Any details on the new slot club, if it exists? 4) Someone please tell me that the machines will be TITO! Thanks for any replies.
um call them? last time i was there, over a year ago, the bj dealers were telling how the gaming was 'subbed out', so there were basically no comps available. Not sure about machines...
This will answer part of your question, although I have no idea if it has happened yet. They had planned to have TITO. http://www.reviewjournal.com/business/casinos-gaming/las-vegas-city-council-appoves-fifth-streets-gold-spike-license
They have been talking about getting rid of the silly all hand pay for years, I suspect it's nonsense. Likewise i wouldn't hold my breath on their new slot club, when it comes to gaming, they really dont seem to have a clue, it's been years now and they dont change.
I really hope they figure their crap out. I want to like the place, but never have the desire to play machines since i know it is all handpay.
hard to like the Spike if you compare to other casinos haha. I spent a lot of weekends there between 03 and 05, pre-renovation. Classic dive. Will never forget the plastic sign behind the bar 'air purified for your enjoyment' or something, while the smoke was so thick you could cut it with a knife. And that they had a clock! Old school, foot or so diameter, round, black letters, hands...Watched a drug deal go down with the player next to me at the blackjack table, and he didn't miss a hand, pocketed the goods and played on...The suites on the 7th floor were...a party. Happened to be there just after the new owners bought, got one of the commemorative chips...
Was just at Gold Spike last weekend. The Cash Spin slot now has TITO but only those two...all others still require hand pay. Tables are only open from 3pm - 11pm. Someone offered me the slot club membership but I declined because I will never be back.
