I was staying at MGM recently and noticed about 25% of the rooms on my floor had a red dot posted to them. I noticed them as well when I stayed there last Sept. I normally take a pic of my room number and set it as the wall paper on my phone in case I get too drunk and can't remember my room number and its helpful when charging stuff to the room. What does the red dot signify? ImageUploadedByTapatalk 21365036600.335950.jpg

I don't know, i stayed at MGM way back when the Wizard of Oz theme was cool. Maybe it has something to do with construction going on in the Hotel. Maybe the rooms are designated for remodeling?

It was a grand king, already remodeled. Nice room, just like the layout in the lobby.

    i vaguely remember seeing them.

Are they stick on dots, or is it the "do not disturb" indicator?

I had a separate "do not disturb" hanging door tag, it was a comp room but I don't think they're set aside for comp players. It's just something that sparked my curiosity.

Hmmm....No clue. On cruise ship deck plans, a red dot or triangle can mean that room is suitable for 3 or 4 passengers instead of the standard 2. Or it could mean ADA compliant, accessible to wheelchairs?

Has something to do with fire if I remember right. I think it's that the windows pop out for escape. It's a signal for the FD.
It's like the blue reflectors in the street you see when driving, that means there's a fire hydrant at that spot

It was a standard king room with a combo shower tub. I think ADA rooms have a door on the tub wide enough to get a wheelchair into. This tub was not like that. Good thought.

Maybe, I didn't notice anything unusual about the windows but maybe they could pop out? I didn't notice.

Usually on a directory of a map (mall, convention hall, hotel) the red dot indicates your location relative to the surroundings. I guess it being on your door just means, "You Are Here". :jester:

I don't know about the red dot, but I LOVE the idea of taking a picture of the room #. I stay at the same place once or twice a month and after several cocktails (OK 32...) sometimes confuse the room I'm in this trip with a previous one. I'll try this...

I have heard this tip before...a good one! Also, if you are old and forgetful like me taking a picture of the number sign nearest where I parked at the airport is a must :peace:

I always text my wife with the room number. Now I have it in both phones. It has come in handy before.

I also wondered about the almost random red dot. Anyone at MGM right now? Call 0 and ask :D

I always assumed it had something to do with housekeeping and which rooms have been cleaned already and which haven't.

The red dots are not permanent, they come and go throughout the day I've noticed.

For parking - I always try to park in the same area for places I regularly go. For hotel rooms in Vegas - definitely take a photo of the room number. My husband wandered (drunkenly) down the wrong wing of MBay for about 30 minutes, randomly trying his key in doors, before he wised up and called me to ask where our room was. I met him by the elevator and guided him home:drunk: And the next morning, he took a photo of the room number!

If the red dots come and go during the day, it can't be something for fire safety, and housekeeping makes sense. Now I'm really curious:ssst:
