Off Strip accessible w/o car

Good Morning VMB'ers.....

I will be traveling to Vegas in just a few days. :banana: We are staying on the strip, but will not be renting a car.

I'd like to visit some of the off strip properties, as I've never been to any of them. What properties are a cab ride away or are accessible via a shuttle/bus of some sort?

Will be cheaper just to rent a car for a day.

We're going to a concert at Red Rock in a couple weeks. It's a $50 cab ride each way. I got a fullsize car rental at Alamo for $80.78 for 4 days.

 

Really don't want to rent a car. Don't want the obligation of requiring someone to stay a sober driver. Any other thoughts?

 

Palace Station is not an expensive cab ride from the strip. I'm not sure why someone would go there, but it's a thought.

M is about a $35 cab ride from the south strip, and there is also a shuttle there from the Fashion Show Mall.

My recommendation is to call the property you want to visit and see what they have available for shuttles. A lot of places are going to have a shuttle to and from the strip as an amenity for their guests.

 

I'd definitely call ahead, a lot of the shuttles are switching over to "guest only", have to show your room key to get a ride from the strip.

 

The Rio has a shuttle to the strip and also the Gold Coast that stops at the Orleans also. And from the Gold Coast the Palms is walking distance.

 

Sam's Town has a free shuttle that leaves the Strip every ~hour or so.

Have you been downtown?

 

smart. If you're up for a bit of adventure, could just get a one-day bus pass, and go west on Flamingo to the Rio and Palms, then go east to Sam's Town on Boulder Highway. Then head into downtown for dinner, and bus back up on the Deuce/SDX...

 

We will definetly be spending a day downtown.

Any idea what bus we will use to get to Rio/Palms? Isn't there also one of the Coast casinos over there as well? I've never been to Rio/Palms or anywhere in that area, so that may be a fun side trip one day/afternoon.

Just looking to venture out a bit more than we have in the past.

Keeping in mind we will probably have purchased either a 24 hour or 3 day bus pass for the Deuce/SDX, which means we can ride any bus throughout Vegas, any other ideas of out of the way places that we can get to? Dive casino's with unique character are appreciated by us as well.

The buses have become my recent interest as I go solo and don't drink and drive.

The 202 runs along Flamingo to get to the Rio, Palms and Gold Coast.

The 201 runs along Tropicana to get to The Orleans.

Here's 3 easy ways to bus Downtown:

Mid-Strip take the Northbound SDX or Duece.
If you're near Treasure Island hop on the CX on Sands(Spring Mountain) at the Fashion Show mall.

If you're near Tropicana and LVB, the WAX stops in front of the NYNY Valet and is a quick 17 minute ride to DT. Stay on it and in another 15 minutes you are dropped off at the Suncoast Resort.

When you're done exploring the DT casino's maybe consider these:

BHX to Boulder Station\Sam's Town\Eastside Cannery.
106 to Texas Station and Fiesta Rancho
MAX to Jerry's Nugget

You can also pick up the Sam's Town shuttle from the Cal and Fremont Casino's while DT.

After reading Joe's Trip Report I took the WAX to Suncoast. Nice place to visit for a quick, inexpensive side-trip.

If you have the time, take the BHX (25 mins)to the nice Eastside Cannery and the local dive Longhorn Casino. After the Cannery get back on it for quick rides to Sam's Town or Boulder Station.

 

Your main problem will be that aside from Rio/Palms/Gold Coast, the off strip places aren't clustered, so visiting a lot of them without a car could be tough.

You can visit the above cluster with shuttles from CET casinos to Rio, or a shuttle picking up in front of 'Billsevoort' going to Gold Coast. You can get shuttles to Orleans as well (from the strip or from the GC).

I know South Point has a strip shuttle, but charges for it. Maybe 15-20 buck to take a cab to South Point.

I think M Resort has one, too, but not sure whether its for guests only.

 

Most of the residential buses like 201 & 204 run every 20 minutes or so. You can go to the RTC and get maps, routes, etc. the Flamingo bus runs east to Ellis Island, and on to Terribles, the Trop east goes to Univ of NV agt LV and a superwalmart. I believe you can ride to Henderson.Pick up a bus book for a buck at the Transfer station. Sometimes they have the books on the bus for a buck. Pocket guides are free if yo can find one. WAX is a cast ride from the airport to downtown in 28 minutes with a stop at NYNY for south strip hotels., the SDX is an express bus to downtown tooand stops at the LV Convention Center. A little time will yield interesting places accessible by bus inexpensively.eg. museums, state parks, shopping centers, etc.
People watching on the bus is free entertainment and some of the drivers are talented stand up (really sit down) comics. Have fun.

Great info, thank you all! I've never ridden anything except the Deuce before in Vegas, so it might be time to broaden my horizons!

 

Wouldn't the Harrahs to Rio shuttle be an option for this? Can take a shuttle to Palace Station from the Fashion Show Mall and also go to the M Resort from the mall.

 

Is that the rate or is does that include taxes and fees? Seems too good to be true.

 

The shuttles that run in a circle from Orleans>Ballys>Gold Coast no longer pick up at Bill's (obviously). It now picks up at the very back of Bally's, past the side entrance and near the sports book. I just rode it last week.

The Rio shuttles pick up from the back garage at Harrah's about every 30 minutes. Rode it last week too. Also a Rio shuttle picks up at Paris, but not sure about the exact location (maybe between Ballys and Paris?).

There used to be a shuttle that ran from Caesars to Silverton/Bass Pro. You can check Silverton website and see if it's still running.

 

Thanks buffalo. I will be at Rio next month and plan on taking the Shuttle. But i was under the impression the that Rio shuttle drops off at Bally's, same stop for Gold Coast, and Harrah's, not Paris. Did that change? It's no big deal if it's Paris, but i thought the Rio shuttle dropped you off at Bally's across from the old Bill's parking garage.

 

Palms also has a shuttle to and from the Forum Shops. If you take either of the shuttles (Rio, Gold Coast or Palms) all three are in easy walking distance of one another.

 

Bungadin presented an EXCELLENT synopsis of the very good bus system in Las Vegas. I use it, and like it.

Having said that, if "we" is just 2 or 3 people, I would just catch a cab from the Strip to the Palms.

I'd see Palms, Gold Coast, then Rio.

Then catch a cab from Rio back home.

Almost exactly right. Rode it last week. Rio shuttle is at Bally's side door, across from Bill's; Gold Coast shuttle is located closer to the back as per prior posters.
