Hi all- I know this is probably covered somewhere in this forum already but my eyes are bugging out from see TOO many websites - can someone help with the best and least expensive way to get from where we are staying (Luxor) to the Fremont Street Experience?

(We're going there on pretty much a shoestring/top ramen budget)
We have some money (planned on getting the monorail all day pass) that should help.... but is there any way to get to see fremont from where we are staying and if so , how?

Apologies in advance if this is a redundant question.....

Best bet on a BUDGET is to ride the Deuce!!! There is a couple of different options for tickets. Just plan on taking some time to get there. I believe last time I went from Excalibur to Fremont Street it took about 30-35 minutes.

The monorail is garbage, imo. It's too far back from casinos on the strip and furthermore not even near the Luxor. You'd have to cross and go to back of MGM to hit it.

    Take the Deuce or SDX.

    $20 for a 3-day pass. $8 for one day. Runs 24 hours.

There's a stop directly across the street from the Luxor (but you can only cross between MB) or you can tram it to Excalibur and hit the bus in front of Tropicana after crossing the overhead walkway or go north to the one past MGM after that walkway.

In any event, you got some walking to do if you don't take a cab or have a rental car. The great thing is that coming back, you'll get dropped off right in front of either Excal or the Luxor.

The monorail is a waste of money.

Completely agree w/Busyman. Deuce or SDX is the way to go on a budget. Just plan a little more time and you'll be fine. Might even enjoy the ride. I've met some interesting and very nice people that way.

I'm thinking if you are on a tight budget maybe you should just skip Fremont Street this trip...

Downtown is pretty cool overall, but there is really very little to do beyond spending money:
They have some good cheap gambling
They have some good cheap souvenir shopping
They have some good cheap drinks
They have some good cheap food

While everything may be "good" and "cheap" the thing is you still have to spend money on it, there is hardly any free stuff to do Downtown and not that many options beyond window shopping and watching the FSE shows to kill time.

From Luxor a taxi will cost about $20-25 each way, that would be the fastest way Downtown. The Deuce is only $3 per person, so thats a lot cheaper, but the disadvantage is that sometimes the bus can be extremely slow to make its way down there (on a good day it'll take about 35-45 minutes, on a really bad day it could take as much as an hour and a half).

I agree with the above posters the Deuce fits your bill perfectly. Get the 3 day pass for $20 and ride all the buses you want/need to.

Take the tram to the Excal and walk out onto the strip side. There is a kiosk there that will sell you the tickets.

The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada has a VERY detailed website.

    Search for it on Google.

It shows every bus stop, route & frequency.

I'm afraid the Deuce is often packed and slower than a snail. From Luxor, your best option is to take the tram or walk to Excalibur, cross over Tropicana, and catch the WAX by NYNY. Go to www.rtcsnv.com for the schedule. It won't take much longer than a cab, you won't have to worry about being long-hauled, and it will only cost $2 each way ($1 if a senior). The stop is by Walgreen's, near the end of the canopy. Going back, you'd catch it at Binion's and get off at the Tropicana.

Turtleman beat me to posting your BEST option. Not only is the WAX a bargain at $2.00 for a full price fare, that bys goes from the airport to downtown at 4th and Carson in about 25-28 minutes. I don't think a cab can beat that. Buy a 24 hour pass (remember it is for 24 hours not the rest of the day you bought it for) or a 3 day pass if you will use it to save step and money.

I love downtown so much now that I stay there and just bus to do what I want on the Strip. During the day there are lots of restaurants, and the convenience stores and souvenoir stores are cheaper, You can walk through the hotels, gamble, see the largest gold nugget in the world on display, see Buffalo Bill Cody's train at MSS. watch or ride the zip line, see the berlin wall at MSS's mens rest room near the buffet, enjoy a deli or coffee shop on Fremont east across from El Cortez, bus to see the NV state park.....the Mormon's first settlement or go a little further north and see the Children' museum, or the Museum of Natural Science. In the evening, enjoy the light show, people watch, sometimes there are 70's or tribute bands, street vendors, artisans, and of course the Neon Museum, Mob Museum, shows at the hotels, lounge acts, buffets, dinner specials and more.

I think most people's first visit should be the Strip which most people think is the Las Vegas but it all started downtown which actually IS Las Vegas. It is like a city within a city and is a great deal for the money for lodging and meals.

BTW, if you catch the Deuce on LV Blvd by the side of the Tropicana, the Deuce is not very full, and you can probaably get a great seat upstairs for seeing the sights while riding up the Strip.Bus is usually packed by the time it stops at the Flamingo depending on the time of the day. It is slow during peak hours like anywhere else but that doesn't usually bother me, when I'm on vacation, I don't want to rush, I do that the rest of the year at work. Enjoy!

fremont is a ton of fun and go for the cost of bus fare.
go in the evening as daytime is pretty quiet.
there is a wax express bus that stops on tropicana beside the valet area that zips you downtown in 20 minutes,
not sure how late it runs though
