    Hi Everyone from Bristol, UK!

Came across the board recently and it seems like a really great place to find out about Vegas! Me, my gf, her sister and bf are planning on heading over for 10nights next summer (soooooo long away!)

This will be my second trip and everyone elses first, however it will be my first proper experience (first went when I was 13 with the family, so it doesn't really count).

As we get closer to the trip I'll certainly be seeking all your help and wisdom when it comes to picking places to stay and sorting details, so thanks in advance!

Any other Brits on here? Cheers!

The people on here have been amazing helping us out and gave me some great advice even though I was/am a newbie!

First time coming up for me, in six days time, woo hoo!

    Hi Chris & Katie,

only 6 days, I'm incredibly jealous. I'm far too excited about my trip even though its well over a year away! Out of interest, who did you book your holiday via and where are you staying in Vegas?

Ummmm, we booked it through Expedia, but we're doing a road trip, 3 days in Vegas then off to LA for a quick bus tour then 5 days in San Francisco; pretty surreal at the moment!

We're staying downtown at the Golden Nugget to get a feel for the old Vegas, but our first night is at the Boulder Dam hotel in Boulder City so we can do the museum and then visit the Hoover Dam. So it'll be the Dam, then around Lake Mead and up to the Valley of Fire on one morning/afternoon, then back down the I-15 to get to the Nugget for a two night stay...

Wandering around downtown and getting our bearings that night, then a day on the Strip the next; though we're hoping to pop into the Strip not long after we have landed (and before we head off to Boulder City) for a few hours just to chill out and have a look around!

Any tips for us (didn't you say you've been before?)

    Chris

Hi Smicky, I see all the brits are coming out the woodwork now :wink2: I'm sure you can go to Vegas a fair few times and still not see/do/eat/drink everything haha!

Chris - Sounds like an epic journey, you're definitely doing it properly. When I was last in the states (1st and last time) back in 2003, I was 13 then so don't really have any suitable tips (too young for all the fun stuff haha!). However we spent a month going around LA/SF/Vegas/Yosemite and lots of small places inbetween. It was awesome! I would love to do that again, but don't really have the money, so sticking to Vegas (along with a day-trip to the Grand Canyon), and thats not exactly cheap either!

Hi, another Brit here - buckinghamshire. Any help you need, just ask, there will be someone that can help. They seem to love our accent so just talk and carry a Marks and Spencer bag and everyone will talk to you, lol. I've never had as many strangers talk to me as when I carried a M&S carrier bag. Don't forget that if you win money there is no tax for us to pay so always carry your passport.

Wow, impressed with the amount of responses here. British invasion ahoy!

Corinne - That's hilarious about the M&S bags, is it seen as a British icon over there? Also great about not paying tax on winnings! I was intrigued about this as I heard somewhere that they can withhold 30% and you have to claim it back from the US tax office. I presume as soon as you show you're British passport they let you keep 100% of the winnings?

Beach Crazy - Haha, that's why I wrote Bristol, UK, as I'm sure there's lots of Bristol's dotted across the States!

Sam - Thanks, I can't wait to start planning the finer details!

sceej - We are indeed :wink2:

Dannyg - Ah! Great to find a fellow Manc! I was born n bred in South Manchester (Levenshulme) and moved to Bristol when I was 19 (about 5 years ago). Which area you from originally?

I just think everyone seems to know that M&S is British and they all want to listen to the accent and say hi, although frequently they confuse it with Australian. Yes, we pay no tax but not all casinos know that so you may have to tell them. There was a thread on here a while ago and I think it was The Plaza (not too sure) that insisted they took the tax as it seems they have to register somehow to be able to do it. Stick to the main casinos and you won't have a problem but if you have left your passport in the room you will have to pay the tax and try and reclaim it on your return to the UK. Let's hope you win enough to save that tax!

Hi there - vegas is really one of a kind and nothing comes close. We are here to help you with any questions. Ive notice everyone likes to help out because it gets us more excited to go back. I hope you enjoy your stay. That is a long visit and you will need to have a basic plan laid out before arriving because of how fast your spending money will vanish. Plan accordingly is my best advice.

We are here to help. Good Luck

    Hi Owen,

Another brit here, I'm just down the road in Dorchester

This place is a minefield of excellent information and plenty of friendly folks too.

As well as all the great information, I find this place is especially great when you're counting down the days to your trip.

I've been to Vegas a fair few times now and it never gets any less painful waiting for the World Series to come around each year :evillaugh

Hey! Cheers for your advice, I appreciate it is a long time to visit Vegas, which is why we've planned it so far in advance, gives us plenty of time to save! I'm planning to have a very modest gambling budget as the other 3 won't gamble much.

I'm also intending to have this budget split up into daily amounts and separate from my spending money. As well, as we're going for such a while, we intend to do a couple of daytrips to the likes of the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Desert etc. Which should help keep costs down as we'll probably book these before we go out there.

I'm so damn excited, and its kinda annoying that it seems soooooo far away! Although I guess its kinda like when you're hungry and delay eating for a little longer, the food always taste so much better :wink2: haha!

Hey, great to see so many Brits about, as naturally its very American dominated, which is no bad thing at all, its just with some questions it would be great to have some British opinions.

Already I've had a good look around and it really does seem like a minefield of useful info and friendly folks!

It's already scratching that Vegas itch reading about it all and in particular the trip reports!

Yet ANOTHER Brit here, albeit located a bit further North than most in Glasgow
My tip would be dont plan too much as there is just soooooo much to see and do you will never have the time to do it all, just relax and go with the flow, Vegas is just the best place in the world and im sure the time will fly by with frequent visits to this amazing board!
Also lol about the natives loving the UK accent although most of the time I got mistaken for being Irish haha
    Enjoy :nworthy:
