Last week Sun Country flights from MSP - LAS went down for a day or two to $291. Now they are back up to $369. I should have booked but the other couple hadn't committed to the trip yet. Now we are ready and wondering if anyone thinks they will go back down to around $300. We are going the beginning of June.

I think we are in stuck in an era of high airfares. Airlines know they have us by the balls. That is why there are fewer flights, fewer routes and more crowded planes, and mergers don't help. This is the sweet spot for airlines. I really don't think airfares are going down much any time so. So, when you see a sale fare that you like, you might want to book it right then.

I have been checking Southwest fares for Sept. and they have been going up, not down. The fares that I am seeing are the highest I have ever seen. I am hoping there will be sale so I can jump on a good fare.

i'd be pessimistic that you'll see airfare at $300 again. i prefer sun country, smaller terminal on both ends of your flight, but will be flying delta this time. delta has more flights, so if you can get a good rate via delta, you will have more options. often the low end of delta is for their less desirable flights (and i have taken a delta red eye home on a friday night/saturday morning in order to take advantage of the best deal available.) i was able to book my upcoming trip – saturday to wednesday via delta – for $328 RT, and that was only slightly higher than other options that required changing planes and/or flying at crummy times. i was at a disadvantage, i only started planning this trip 4 weeks ago, so i didn't have months to fare watch, but past experience tells me that i wouldn't have found a much better deal for delta flights at the times i booked. i'm flying out late afternoon on saturday and returning late afternoon on wednesday.

    good luck.

anything under $400 is a solid price from MSP; my last few trips have averaged in the $380-$390 range

Wow, that's great. I got impatient when booking and just wanted it done - so I ended up paying $399 for my May Delta flights.

i gotta believe that's an exception to the rule. i don't look often, but i never see airfare below $300 RT a week before departure.
