Every trip to vegas I play at least a couple hours of pai gow a day to relax and get some free drinks. I would say at least 1-2 times a trip I get paid when I should of pushed, or push when I should of lost. The dealer mis reads my hand or their hand. On my last trip this happened 3 times and one turned a loss into a win (dealer would have played a flush with a pair up top, instead played the pair down with AK up). I would say on the trip I played a total of 8 hours of pai gow at 25-50 per hand. So it would be interesting to get an idea of how much this changes the house edge. I am not even close to mathmatical enough to figure this out. Anyone have a estimate or guess how this changes the edge.

How many hands do you play in a typical hour do you think? Sorry, I don't play Pai Gow, so I'd need that to do the math.

Are you saying that they read their and/or your hand incorrectly? I'm surprised that so many mistakes are made - I must play at "Very Accurate Dealer Casino" - since rarely are mistakes made. Most of the time, how the dealer sets their hand is the problem - where a simple reminder/pit boss question is required.

Sorry, I can't give you any math on the house edge - just be fortunate - I've been at tables where a few times where a mistake is made (in player's favor), only to be told be another player - "Hey, that's not right - he lost that hand!". I couldn't wait for that guy to bust out and leave the table. I would never had said anything - it's up to the actual owner of the hand to say something - and whether he did or not, that's not my call!

It is really dependent on the hand rate per hour. But if you're playing at a full table, it's about 35 hands/hr. The house edge in Pai Gow Poker is 2.73% (unless you bank). So over 8 hours, you would expect to be down this many units:

    35*8*0.0273 = 7.644 units.

If you play perfectly and get 2 pushes turned to wins (or losses to pushes, either type) on an average trip, then your expected loss would 2 units less at 5.644 units. So this lowers the house edge to: 5.644/35/8 = 0.0202 = 2.02%.

Pai Gow Poker is by far the best 'dealer error' game going. As described, it's not unusual to see pushes get paid or losses get pushed, the dealer can mis-set his hand, the dealer can compute the commission wrong, I've even seen a dealer on one hand pay the entire table as if we were playing 3-card poker (trips beat straights beat flushes instead of the other way around). I had a dealer that failed to collect my lost bonus bet EVERY time I banked.

My experience has been that most players are vaguely aware of this and are pretty good about keeping their mouth shut when the dealer screws up with an advantage to one of the other players.

Guess that doesnt change the house edge as much as I thought it might. I was hoping maybe it would get it to close to 1% which would make it a great option to play 25.00 a hand and sit for hours with pushes and get free drinks. It is funny though when you see the dealer start to pay everyone on a hand or see they mis set their hand so everyone wins instead of losing or pushing and eveyone is looking at each other in a way that says, dont say anything. Then you pray the pit boss doesnt come over and notice.

yep. on a cruise ship one time another guy and I were playing table max $1k/hand and he banked and the dealer paid him the $1k and also gave him the $1k he had put out to signal the bet. we just looked at each other and I didn't say anything because it wasn't my place. so he made an extra $1k.

I find maybe half & half with PaiGow dealers....half that deal the game a lot and are really sharp...the other half, ones you have to point it out that you have a payable bonus in your hand...I don't think anyone has ever paid me on a hand I actually lost or pushed...

Probably at least once a day one of the dealers finds a better hand buried in my cards that I didn't see; once-in-a-while a bonus in my hand that I didn't see. But I quite often have to point out to some dealers that I have a bonus in my hand as they are attempting to pull my bonus bet..(that's usually because I have split it and you need to look for it) other times because they're too lazy to look for anything in the player hands..I will now tell those dealers that I have a hidden bonus before they attempt to take my bonus bet..
