Best slots?

OK, this may seem like a stupid question, but I am a "Vegas Virgin." Which casino on the Strip has the best/loosest slots? We'll be staying at Harrah's, but I've read their slots are "tight." We'll be walking around, so was trying to plan on which casino to do the most gambling. Thanks!

 

You'll get the same tightness or looseness of slots at any Strip casino, basically. There really aren't any statistics that would steer you to one or another. Downtown is probably looser that the Strip by 1 or 2 percent. You can find hundreds of anecdotes from players that will tell you 'XYZ casino has tight slots, I never win there', but that's because in the few hours they spent there they didn't win. That kind of story just doesn't tell you anything; the sample size is way too small.

Of course, the higher denomination you play the lower percentage they keep. But only play at a level you can afford. Otherwise the risk of your trip bankroll disappearing before the end of the trip becomes rather high.

if you're sticking to slots, I'd just play at the casinos where you like the ambiance, cocktail waitresses, machines you think are fun, etc. That's far more important than trying to sniff out some 'loose' slots (which pretty much don't exist).

 

I think they are all about the same. But, based on my trying, and trying real hard at Venetian - they seem to be even tighter. I doubt it though.

 

I believe El Cortez has the current title of "loosest slots"

 

Be careful as you tend to get a lot of wise cracks when asking where are the loosest slots. First if people really knew they wouldn't tell you. Second, no one really knows.

Even if I told you Machine A was the loosest on the strip, you could still easily lose a ton of $$$$ while the person next to you is playing the tightest machine and making a killing.

Don't get caught up on finding the right machine. The right machine is one you enjoy playing.

My wife lost her bankroll on a MJ slot machine. When this happens she will refuse to play it again. I sat down at "her" machine later that night and cashed out up $1000 so it really doesn't matter on such a short trip.

Winning on slots is optional. Having fun is what it's about.

If you win big, it's like I tell my dad, "Right machine......right time!"

Just play where you feel comfortable and enjoy those "free" drinks.

 

I agree that it is mostly luck, but one thing I have started doing is getting my money as $5s instead of $20s, and then I start with five bucks in the machine. I find that if it hits right away it usually ends up being a good machine. There's something about blowing just five bucks on a cold machine that makes it easier to walk away, because if I put in 20, I feel more invested somehow as if I need to play longer. So that's my little tip for playing slots. I also try to pick non-licensed games the majority of the time, although I cave in to the call of the Michael Jackson machine every once in a while.

 

There is a casino in Tunica and another somewhere that always dumps out $20's when I hit the ATM. Drives me nuts. Luckily most machines do $100's.

As to using $5 - that is often the lowest bet I do. So... LOL! Glad it works for some though.

 

There is a Hexbreaker machine that I discovered I can do all thirteen lines with one cent, so a .13 bet. I put in a couple of bucks as a joke and before I knew it I was up to 10 bucks on my little .13 bets. I usually do .40 or .50 bets on .1 machines, but sometimes will ramp it up to .80 or 1.20. If I'm up a lot, I'll throw in the odd max bet.

When I say microroller, I may actually mean sub-atomic particle roller!! But it gives me a lot of pleasure and entertainment so it's all good.

 

my own experience, when the casino is packed and people are feeding the slots i have won more, when the casino is empty i don't hit as much, i am not talking about jackpots just payback, and i am not talking about seeing other people hit just the slots that i may be playing at the time, seems like the machines are dead. it could just be an illusion but that is what it seems like to me

 

if you dont mind playing video poker, the MGM locations are the loosest on the strip, with 99.5% (full pay) jacks or better machines. (vpfree2 has a list of machines and payouts for all of vegas)

if you wonder off the strip the palms is known for loose slots and many machines have a 99% payout,

Everyone kept telling me Red Rock and OFF strip are loosest but I lost my shirt at Red Rock when I went..so there really isn't an answer for this

 

I believe that the hold off strip is better. But, any group of machines is apt to beat the hell out of you from time to time. Even a 100% payout machine can beat you up if the top pay is high. For example, if a machine has a $15,000 top payout, even at 100% payout, it has to take in $15,000 for every jackpot. Or even more if it is going to make a bunch of small payouts along the way, which of course they all do.

 

There really is no good answer that is not ambiguous. I have won a small fortune on 2 different machines in less than 20 minutes at The Las Vegas Club (Happy Days and Megabucks) at 7 in the morning where it was me and the dealers. I've lost several thousand at The El Cortez - a place that many claim to have the "loosest" slots. It is pure luck and being at the right place at the right time which may or may not be the machine you're sitting at....Or God forbid, the one the guy next to you is sitting at that you were going to get on but didn't because there was a crazy drunkard babbling to himself that smelled like a diaper full of old tuna, burnt pubic hair, Old Crow Rotgut Whiskey and sulfur...That guy hit for 100k playing a WOF machine... Have fun, set your expectations low when you're a slot player, and only play with the money you can afford to lose.

 

I've seen some penny slots that allow you to bet just 1 cent. You can play 1 line for 1 cent. No higher minimum required. I don't remember which ones or exactly where but at places like Wynn and Bellagio where we usually play. If you want to be the micro-est of micro rollers you can play those. One dollar can probably last you a long time.

 

Most "older" penny slots will allow you to do this. The game may be boring though at one cent a spin because your hit frequency will be quite low. My first trip to Vegas I played "Texas Tea" at 9 cents (9 lines x 1c) a spin for a couple hours on a single dollar. Had it up to $5 at one point before eventually losing it...lol

 

Since you are supposed to loose on each and every slot machine, why bother for 1 or 2% difference anyway? You'll loose in the long run. Question is "how fun it is?" and "How big is the jackpot?"

 

1. Play for fun, not to win. Slots are entertainment, not an ATM
2. Play where you're comfortable with the atmosphere, drinks, CW's and other things
3. Play where you stay or one of their affiliates if you want to earn comps and/or future offers.
4. Play what you're willing to lose. PLaying desperate is an invitation to losing and poor decisions.
5. Most strip casinos seem to play about the same. My experience is that it isn't about the building, it's about finding the right machine at the right time. If it doesn't hit anything decent or keep you alive on 20 bucks, don't think feeding it 300 bucks is going to make it any better. Bad machines are bad machines, or good machines in bad moods are still in a bad mood. Feeding it doesn't make it better.

I play slots, I like slots, I enjoy the mindless entertainment of slots. I like "zoning out" and it's my way of shutting down, I don't drink, do drugs, hookers, blow or strippers...I use slots as mindless entertainment.

When i go back to Vegas in May i'm going to mostly play .25 slots instead of the usual penny. If i bet 50 cents on a penny machine and 50 cents on a quarter machine my action is better on the quarters. Slot experts always say the higher denomination the better if you play slots.
