So I have an offer booked at NYNY in July with a little FP. It's only $50 but this will be my first experience with it as my previous 3 trips were so spaced out and I never really focused play at any one play as opposed to the last trip that was mainly at NYNY and MC. Should I just play $1 VP and try and get a hit? (I think I'd get 10 hands if nothing hit, if I am counting right) or play some slots? I don't think I have any other options than those two.

I usually don't play at NY, NY, or any MLife property for that matter, so I can't be too specific. But...

...it seems like you want to actually MAKE MONEY off your freeplay, which is noble (I'm the same way). Your idea is to play 10 hands at max coins at $1 video poker and that may work.

But then again, all 10 hands might be duds and you'll make zero money.

Personally, what I would do is play 40 hands at quarter max coins. According to www.vpfree2.com the NY, NY property has a total of eight (8) 9/6 JoB (99.54%) machines "a few rows in front of hotel registration (no points)" available.

This gives you 40 chances to hit something instead of 10. Yes, you're playing at quarters so if you do hit something, the payoff is lower-- but you get more chances.

This is what I would do, but that's just me.

P.S. Of course, you could always go the other way and play $5 VP at max coins with your $50 FP. But then you'll only get TWO hands...

If you want to shoot for a big hit, then you'd want to play DDB instead of JoB and take the higher variance game. You don't want to do that at MC, because their best DDB is 9/5. You could go to Excalibur where they have 9/6 at the $1 level.

If you want to maximize the amount of your freeplay that you turn into actual money (ie, if you're hapy coming away with $40) then you should play JoB at NYNY.

I guess if the original poster wanted a big hit, he could take the $50 freeplay to The Bellagio and do one spin at a $50 slot...

He could win something like $10K! $20K! Maybe more!

But then again, he'd probably walk away with nothing.

I suppose it's all a matter of how comfortable he is with walking away with either zero or "something" or the small chance of "a lot," and the variance in the games he's willing to play.

Play the old school 3 reel $1 slots in front of the cashier windows. I've made money on those machines and had a blast as well.

If you are going to play VP or slots anyways just treat the Freeplay as regular money and play the type of machine that you would normally play.

If you don't usually play VP or Slots and you are just looking for a way to use your freeplay then go big and do two rounds of $5 VP, or one $50 spin. Its FREE money...so why not go for a big hit.

I sometimes use the FREEPLAY as a way to justify a trip...which is horrible I know..."Well they are giving me comped rooms and free play...so they are basically paying me to go...It would be dumb not to go...I will be losing money by not going"

Then I get back and crunch to numbers and hey look at that...I lost money...NERTZ!!!!!

the FP is at NYNY, not Bellagio

And, basically, the odds are about the same at either place, give or take a percent or two

I am guessing when you go to Vegas, you play a few hundred at least in slots. So, treat that $50 just like CASH, and play whatever you normally play. Why should freeplay be different?

You are not alone.......I do the same thing and I bet we both have fun doing it. As Vegas fanatics we can always find a reason to go and I say the same thing....hey, they are paying me to go!. It would be downright rude of me not to lol!

Find an old style 3-reel, 5-way slot, either .25 or $1
    Play max (5 lines...$1.25 on .25 or $5 on $1)
The reason is, these machines pay more regularly, but in lower amounts. Big jackpots just don't happen and even things like three 7's don't usually pay much, but you'll usually hit some bars, cherry and low paying stuff to keep you alive.
Now, as you are playing, pay attention to the points earned per pull, do the math to determine how many points make a dollar....CET is $5 = 1 tier point

Once you reach the point number that equals your FP amount ($50) cash out

The system won't let you cash out until you use all the free play. Some machines and casinos don't even start adding points until the FP is exhausted, in those instances, once you earn a point, you're now playing on your own cash, not theirs, so cash out and your $50 FP just became $50 in free cash.

BTW, $1 5-way machines are a great way to grind out a shit ton of points because every spin is a point and those machines usually keep you alive for a long time....again, no big wins, no hand pays, because they really reduce the payout tables due to it's being 5-way making it easier to hit something. I do this a lot if I want to pump up some time and points to make my host/ADT happy.

This is in no way a good idea to make money but:

Find a slot machine you like and let it rip! The money is free to you and you MAY actually hit a big one. That is what I would do. :peace:

Honestly, there is some merit to the idea of a person for a very short time playing outside their normal means. If you budget your bankroll, you certainly could use the freeplay and just mix it in, but usually when I go I've got my bankroll already set. So freeplay offers an opportunity to be a little ridiculous and play something I wouldn't normally do because my normal bankroll doesn't support it.

For $50 in FREEplay, thats such a small amount I can't see why you would be putting so much thought in to it...

In this case I would just add it to my bankroll and treat it like I brought an extra $50 to gamble with on this trip.

When people ask about things like if they should go big with their FREEplay or grind it out at something and convert it to cash or should they just play it as normal bankroll money... when they ask that its because they have a fairly significant sum of free play, a few hundred or possibly a thousand or more dollars worth.

I'm not trying to be mean or harsh about it, just that if you go to a dollar slot machine you are looking at about 60-90 seconds worth of action, dollar VP it'll be more like 30 seconds worth. Its just that you aren't going to be getting enough play out of this freeplay at those levels to actually have a decent chance of hitting anything, big or small.

My goal would be to turn as much of that freeplay into cash. So I'd play the lowest variance quarter VP machine. Even without a big hit, you should be able to cycle through the free play and still be able cash out $40 or so, more with a little luck. Once you have the cash in your pocket, it's then CASH if you get my meaning.

If he's a machine player it's already cash...if you get my meaning.

That being said I tend not to treat freeplay as cash either and just as funny money. I like using it on high limit Top Dollar machines. The 2 credit ones. Been lucky on those.

Holy Jeez, so sorry about posting and forgetting. To follow up some of the questions/points brought up about the amount and my play.

-I'm a once, twice if I'm lucky, a year Vegas visitor.
-BR has steadily grown over the past 3 trips and the next one will be around $2500 for 4 nights (3 true days of gambling due to travel availability)
-I mainly like to play poker when I am out there, but the last trip only about 10% of my time was at the table. The rest was spent at my two new addictions: Craps and VP.
-I probably got the FP due to the last night I was there where I ran $200 (my cash out of pocket put into the machine) through a machine for about 3 hours. With some other VP interspersed over the previous 4 days.
-I was asking b/c I didn't know whether to treat it as part of my bankroll for the .25/.50 VP that I play, or since it's "house money" to take a stab at something big (i.e. Top Dollar, WOF, $1/$2 VP, etc.). I'm leaning to the big play just for the shot at playing something I normally wouldn't.

Thanks for all the advice guys and gals!

The machine will treat it exactly as cash. It will spin the wheels or deal the cards the exact same way if you put $50 of cash in it. It does not treat it different, so not sure why anyone would treat it different than the cash in your pocket. If you would risk your cash on machine A, then why not put the freeplay in the same machine?

I understand that the machine doesn't know any different. I was more asking the latter half of your reply. You seem to fall into the "treat it as part of your BR" camp. I was just gauging how many treat it that way vs it being "free" money to try and hit something big that you normally wouldn't play. Hearing opinions one way or the other would help me figure out which way I would go this time.*

*First time with FP, so different uses will be toyed with going forward.
