 Hey everyone, I have been reading the forum almost everyday here in AFG while I am deployed so I can plan out the Vegas Trip of a life time for myself and my battle buddies who are coming along for the trip. We have ideas on what to on the strip but I have yet to be down town for a long peroid of time. I want to make it a full day/night down town. So What time should we "plan" on getting down there? Breakfast or Lunch? Also from there what should we head to first ? What would be a Must see/do? What time does the bus stop taking people from the strip and what would be the cost. Also this will be done sometime in Oct. All help appreciated.

Downtown during the day can be fairly uneventful. When we are not staying downtown we usually get there around 6 and wander and enjoy some cocktails, then have dinner and after enjoy some gambling, bars on Fremont East or just wander and enjoy the people watching and live music on the street

Not much reason to run down during the day if you are looking to party. Like the other poster said, wait till eve and live it up. Downtown is my fave part of LV!

If you're gambling, I'd suggest the opposite and get downtown as quickly as possible! lol

You could do a late breakfast or lunch buffet at MSS to kick things off and get fueled for the day. Pretty good and relatively cheap.

You can do online search for the Duece or SDX to get their current schedule. (The SDX goes Strip to downtown and back with fewer stops.)

I'm not sure there are any "must-sees" downtown unless you've never seen the laser show.

Detailed bus schedules are available at: rtcsnv.com.

There are two types of buses linking the strip and the downtown.

The Deuce runs 24 hours per day. It makes many stops, and is a bit slow.

The SDX ( strip-downtown express ) is quite a bit quicker, makes fewer stops, but only runs from 9 a.m.
    to 12:30 a.m.

So, if I were in your shoes, here's what I would do:

    1. I'd enjoy my time on the strip until it got to be maybe 4 or 5 p.m. Then, I'd hop the SDX to downtown.

    2. Eat at 777 Brewtub at Main Street Station, or at the buffet at MSS

    3. Casino/bar hop through every casino downtown . It is fun to see the differences, and by dark,
a couple of them are usually swinging. ( Think Golden Gate or The D ).

    4. See light shows

    5. Listen to the live bands

    6. Take advantage of table games with low limits ( $5 BJ & craps ).

    7. When you get weary, grab the bus back to the strip ( Deuce after 12:30 a.m. )

    8. Forgot to mention Fremont Street East, the end of Fremont across from El Cortez. Lots
of small, but nice bars. Le Thai Cafe ( yum! ). Just a fun area to walk around.

Have a great time, and thanks for your service to protect us all!

October is a great time to be downtown, especially as it gets close to Halloween. Weather is perfect, there's people in coatumes, haunted houses, lots of free bands and entertainment at night. I think early afternoon is angood time to get there. The 777 in Main Street Station is a great place to grab a bitenand some beers and start your day downtown. Then walk from Main Street Station to El Cortez to take it all in and get your bearings. After that walk you'll have some ideas what you want to check out. At some point, get a fried twinkie inside Mermaids. Check out all the attractive dealers in Golden Gate. The overhead music/light shows start on the canopy at 6 and run every hour. By then some of the bands should start playing on the stages at 1st, 3rd and Main.
Have a great trip, and thanks for your service to our country.

I wouldn't bother going before lunch. Like others have said you will be surprised how slow downtown is in the morning.
I personally enjoyed hitting the bar at the fremont and upstairs at the D playing video poker and pounding beers. Then hitting a 2-4 limit game at golden nugget or binions and playing for a couple hours with a hundred dollar buy in. (drink service was very good at both of those pokers rooms during the day). You can burn a few hours in the afternoon and early evening and get a good buzz before it gets lively at night.

Also since you are planning on spending the entire day and night there, I would consider everybody throwing a couple bucks in and grabbing a room in one of the cheaper hotels downtown(depending on what day of the week u go you might find a $30 room). This way you have a home base to go back and relax and recharge after dinner and before you go out and cause some trouble on fremont street at night...lol. Just don't forget to check out before you go back to the strip.

Well, as others have mentioned - the morning hours are good for one thing and only one thing - Gambling Conditions!! Of course, that's why I go, so I love the mornings downtown.
If gambling is only a secondary consideration, then yeah - head down there early afternoon. Dittos on the MSS 777 dining recommendation - surprisingly good food, lots of TVs, good micro-brews available - and, by the way - MSS is a fun place to gamble. (PS - be sure to take a leak while you're there.)

After dark, you and your buddies have to hit Golden Gate. Whatever table-game you decide to play, the scenery, drink-service and the vibe is excellent.

You're gonna want to casino-hop from there, all the way down to the El-Co... you'll run into free 'entertainment' all along the stroll.

My recommendation would be to skip the bus and secure a larger van-type taxi for you & your compatriots...depending on how many of you are there, you may even come out 'ok' by getting a limo. Figure $60 total for the limo (includes tip) - if there are 6 of you, that's pretty cheap...certainly better than taking two cabs.

    Enjoy!

Yes, with 6 people, that limo idea is not a bad one.

Split the fees 6 ways, and it would be worth it.

It would save a lot of time (compared) to the bus, and it would just be a lot of fun!!

Rooms are cheap enough downtown that you might consider getting a crash pad for the night. It's easier than wrestling a large drunk man back to the strip after an evening of cheap drinks downtown. The limo idea sounds good too.

Specifically, be sure to take a leak in the men's room down the long hallway between the buffet and the cage.

If you do make in downtown in the morning, there's always the 10:00 NL Texas Hold'em tournament at Binions. They usually get a decent turnout, and the buyin is relatively low (if I recall, it's about $60).
