Being somewhat new to craps I have a tipping question. Last night I played craps at a nearby casino. Did fairly well and when I colored up tossed the dealer on my end the tip. My question is, If I have $5 on the pass line and $10 odds behind it, if I put $5 on the line as my tip and let them know they are in the action do they expect the odds to be placed for them also? Just wondering what others do. Instead of tipping at the end like I did, I'd like to tip them a few times as I go along if I'm doing well.

I think you can tip whatever you want, but you can not tip too much or you are going to lose for sure. I believe that if you have $15 bet($5pl with $10odds) then you are betting too much with a $5 line bet for dealers. Just put $1 or $2 and they will appreciate it.

Ok, thanks. I was thinking $1 here and there on pass line with mine. Just wasn't sure if they expect to be tipped as same as my bet.

I like putting the dealers on the pass line for a buck, then up their odds by a dollar or two as I get paid on my place bets, until I reach max odds for them. So I either have 4, 5, or 6 dollars out for them depending on the point. They seem to appreciate it, and I like it because they get tipped with house money...

I put a dealer bet for the table minimum on the pass line each time I shoot. Only once has a dealer ever asked if I wanted to put odds behind it, and I just said no.

There's no such thing as a bad dealer tip, so don't sweat it.

There is no such thing as undertipping a dealer and the way your tipping with a bet equal to your own passline bet you are overtipping if anything.

If you bet pass line for the dealers, you don't have to play odds for them. But at some tables...especially lower end joints in my experience...you might get a crew that tries to talk you into it.

A way to avoid that if you're tipping $5 is to wait until after the point is established and then place the number for the dealers...you do that by putting the money on the passline, except you put it right on the back line so it's half on pass and half behind. So if you put $5 for them and you hit the number (I only do it on 5 and 9) then they get $7 plus the $5. When it's an even point and I want to tip, I just do it on the hardway.

A $1 hardway on the point for the dealers is probably the most common tip at the table.

Reefer- Tipping on a dice game is totally up to you. If you are getting lousy service by the crew, your choice on tipping.

If during my session someone goes on a heater, I will ask the crew if they want to get in on the action or just have the toke dropped. If they want in, I will start wtih a dollar cheque on the line with "shoes ( odds) and if the hand continues, with every point made I will increase the pass line bet for the crew and increase the odds accordingly.

When the table is hot and the crew are on top of their jobs ( reminding me about my center action preferences on come out rolls, paying attention to my press patterns on place bets, etc) In addition to putting them on the pass line, I will put them up on the hardways, and if it's a really good hand, I will place the box numbers for them.

When the crew are professional, upbeat and (seemingly) wanting the players to win, they get great tips from me, but if they are the surly, "this job sucks" type of dealer, they will only get a tip at the end of my session, and it will most likely not be more than $5 or $10.

    Regards,

    Vinegarjoe

$1 on each of the hardways for the dealers every 30-40 minutes or so.

My dealer tips are typically two-way hard way parlay, two-way 11 parlay on a come out and adding to my odds bet letting them know how much is for them.

I also add to the odds on come bets when the table really gets going. I try to make bets for them that are decent bets.

I like to bet the hardways for the dealers.
The amount varies depending upon how well I am doing.

I would tip in the same way you are playing. There is a reason you are taking odds so why not do so with the tip. I'm not saying tip more, I'm saying tip with odds in mind. If you want to tip $5 then put $1 on the pass line and then back it up with some odds when the point comes out. I would suggest against $5 odds for the same reason you shouldn't do that yourself. Bet even amounts on odds.

Common bets I make for dealers

    $1-$2 pass line + Odds
Hardway on the number that is being rolled
    Place 6 or 8 for $6.

You are able to go below table minimum on dealer tips.

If any dealer gives you greif about not being tipped to much or tries to pressure you into tipping more, leave that table. A dealer suggesting you do $1PL/$4 Odds vs $5 PL does not fall under this. They are simply wanting you to bet it the way that they will make the most money.

Depending on table conditions, I'll often tip them directly, instead of betting for them.

I'll do this when the table is choppy. This way they are assured of tip money instead of the house getting everything.

When things are looking good the dealers are always on the line with me when I roll.

There should be a standard for tipping dealers just like there's a standard for waiters, bellhops, valets, limo drivers, and everyone else.

I always tip by placing $5 on the line and backing it up with $10 for the dealers. If the table is really hot I will add to their odds bet as I collect place bets.
I may do this once every 30-45 minutes.
I usually start with my own bet of $30-$50 on the pass line with full odds for me.I always place the inside numbers.
If I'm really winning I will add two way hard numbers piggybacked with $50 for me and $5 for the dealers.

I will tip when I am winning (sorry dealers, just a fact of life - mine anyway)

Exception - If there is a fire bet, I always place a $5 bet for me and $1 bet for the dealers when I am the shooter. When I am not the shooter, it is just a $2 bet for me. (I rolled one six point fire bet for me and the dealers - $5000 for me and $1000 for the dealers. They were really into the table that day!)

If I have hit a couple of center bets (like a hi-lo-yo or a horn) I will bet it two way for the dealers.

If I am up and have $5 on each hardway, I will cover the hardways for the dealers $1 each.

If I am having a good day and my stack is up, I will take one shooter and play the inside numbers for $44 and then put one each for the dealers. Each time one hits, I replace the dealer bets. If the shooter goes on a nice steak, I have won the dealers $30 or more.

For some reason, I rarely put the dealers on the line. Just don't seem to think of it.

When I color up and have had a good session, my walkaway bet is a $5 midnight with $1 for the dealers. Sometimes it is $25 midnight and $5 for the dealers. (Hit that one time for a great goodnight present)

I like to do a two way yo. The ONLY reason I prefer that bet is I like the way it sounds when calling it out.

I usually do a two way hard 6 and hard 8 for the dealers several times during the session.

When I color up I'll throw down another hardway and a passline bet for them too.

Lol! Yes, and I also like the sound when I call out "Horn, high yo for the dealers!"
