I been an avid slot player these past 4 trips with semi decent comps from the Aria (3nights, $200 Fp, $100 spa). If I were to change my bankroll to video poker but still wager the same amount of money, 4-5k per trip, would my comps stay constant? I know there's a lot of factors involved, coin in, etc but are there any other vp players that are comped by aria here? I'm not going to completely stop slots but this past trip was eye opening to how fun vp is. I figured although it's something like $10 for 1 tc, the low ha would make up for it?

your comps will definitely go down unless your coin-in goes up significantly. VP has a much lower HA than traditional slots so the points/TCs/theo is much lower.

If you have the exact same coin in on VP as you do on slots, you will then be rated at about half of what you had been rated at, and comps will at some point reflect that. Hard to say when it will happen, but it will.

Given the lower HA on VP, it would stand to reason that two people with the same budget, 1 playing slots and the other VP, that the VP player would have higher coin-in. Barring jackpot luck.

I'm hoping the same bankroll and lower ha will help mitigate the more coin-in needed because theoretically I should be winning more? Hopefully lol I guess only time will tell

You make a very good point. If both players had $1,000 to "blow", the chances are the VP player would get way more coin in. The impact of half the rate in comps/ec etc would therefore be a bit different.

only if the avg bet vs bankroll were sufficient enough to allow the HA to take effect. in a small sampling like $1000 and with the high payout of the premium hands in VP, you can come in way under the coin-in that you should expect given the HA.

Your always saving money if you can have the same amount of gambling fun but have to pay for your room or other past comps. There are ways to maximize your comps for whatever you play but the fact is getting more comps means being a bigger loser. Getting less comps means being a smaller loser.

Comps are a way to pay ten times the price everyone else is paying. Casinos love people who love comps so much that they hire these salespeople called hosts to personally give them to you and string you along to want more and more and convince you that means your a VIP. Even though the guy in the same suite next to yours paid 10% what you paid for your suite through your gambling and gets all the same VIP treatment.

I'm not sayin he doesn't gamble. As a gambler myself that would be pure hypocrisy. I'm just sayin he shouldn't avoid playing video poker -- which he says he enjoys -- just because they don't give much in comps compared to slots. They don't give as much in comps because the house edge is less than 1% while on slots it's around 10% -- one of the lowest edge games versus one of the highest edge games.

So if you start playing a new game you like and your comps dry up because of that all it means is your losing a lot less than your old comps were worth anyway.

I got you JD. Just funning. I just don't think that all of us who enjoy the comps are being lubed up by the "salespeople"! I do agree with you that the hosts bear a striking resemblance to Kurt Russell in the movie Used Cars! At the end of the day it's their job to help make the casino money I suppose, just so long as we keep one eye on them and one on our wallet!:rolleyes2:

My Aunt refuses to come away from Sex in The City, WoZ, and Betty Boop even though she loves comps. She just plays for fun now and whatever they give her she considers a plus. The key for her is the fun factor. They have friends that get crazy with the VP but and get loads of comps.....at Gold Coast! They don't even stay at MGM anymore because they can't even get a free room.

In most cases this will leave more money in your room at the end of the trip.

See BeeJay's Comp Yourself thread from several weeks ago.

Although Gary Loveman would deny it, the comp system is designed to encourage the players to chase comps.
CET built an empire on the TR program.
The multiple tiers with different benefits encourage you to play more and longer.

Play VP if you want to and pay the difference in room price.
Don't worry about comps you will head back to the airport with more cash in your wallet.

Isn´t that depending on how you deal with the "invitations" of the casino and their salesman. If your play, time and stakes, is not influenced by the comp system, each penny you get in comps is an add on to what you had expected.

Here in Germany you have to pay an entrance fee to get in a casino, you play with bad rules and you have to pay your drinks, so everything in Vegas seems like heaven compared to us.

Your correct. I was talking about the posters idea about whether or not to play a certain game dependent on the comps it generates.

That's the idea. Here's what was written in a 2006 white paper on Total Rewards by a consultancy called Gaming Market Advisors:

"Total Rewards employs an aspirational strategy that is designed to get players to seek higher tier levels. Every element of the customer service delivery process at every Harrah’s property is designed to show that Platinum, Diamond and 7-Star customers are an elite group and are deserving of special attention. Customers aspire to this higher level of recognition as well as the more generous mail offers sent to customers in the higher tiers. It is this aspirational strategy that is at the heart of the Total Rewards program."

Shocking! When I finally get drugged up enough to fly to Europe I guess gambling won't be something I do while there! I bet Vegas does look like a wonderland compared to that.

In an ideal world that would be true.
Players would play at the same rate without any regard for comps.
Unfortunately, players know the free rooms come with an expectation of 4 hours/day play at the rate they were comped for.
I'd like to say I have not done it but I have.
In my local casino, that gives nothing to table players,I play at fraction of my Vegas or AC play when I am comped a suite and F+B.
TR and MLife did not get so big based on players ignoring comps.
