A rather odd tale

    My Trip Report

My wife was visiting her mother and I managed a solo trip to meet a buddy I used to work with. He was on and off about the trip for awhile, I thought it was really going to be a solo trip.

He booked his reservations and his aunt and uncle ended up flying in from California. When talking to my son, I mentioned the trip had changed a bit and I would probably be solo more than I thought. Next morning, he calls to say he had a ticket and would meet me there.

So, flight to Las Vegas was awesome as I got upgraded both segments, snack box hit the spot and they kept bringing those free adult beverages. Had to cut them off since a rental car was involved.

Arrive in Vegas at 8:30 AM, head downtown to pick up son and off to M Resort to try to enter a VP tournament. As luck would have it, they took me even though I was not staying there. No royals so tournament was fun but no prizes. During my session, there were three royals, just none at my machine

Anyway, off to the Rio to check in at the VIP registration. They were really nice. I signed up for a game show event at Ballys and they actually came out on the floor to find me and remind me of check in time.

So, my plan was to play $5 VP and rack up the 2500 CET points to get the 5000 free points. Sounded good, work in Horseshoe Bossier City a couple weeks ago. No cigar here. I got my butt kicked...repeatedly. Could not believe it.

About the time I started playing VP, I started feeling odd. As the day wore on, I got worse. Still in search of the mystical 2500 points, we moved to the Mascarade bar and waged on. My son hit a royal on 25 cent DD while I continued to slowly drain away my confidence.

Now I was feeling dire but struggled through to hit the magic number. No mention is allowed of the toll it took on my bankroll.

I'll skip the next 36 hours as it is a very unpleasant tale covering a very small area.....path from bed to toilet. During this time I was able to muster the strength to pack up and move downtown at my son's request. Once there I was back in bed while he managed to hit Aces with a kicker and a royal at the MSS all within about 10 minutes.

So the next day I managed to get up and make contributions to a few of the casinos but the heart wasn't in it. Did have a good time playing Hold Em Fold Em Dueces Wild at the D but then it was time to move back to the Rio.

And now the odd part, I planned to stop by the Orleans but now I felt so bad I was going to stop just so my son could play a bit. In we go, look for the machine I hit a royal on before and.....out of service. Oh well, lets try another bar. Play one machine while a couple standing next to me are having serious marital issues... at the top of their lungs. Well this isn't fun, guess I'll move on the other side of my son. No a guy just sits down, so I move to the other end and my son comes along. Not 5 or 10 hands later I hit a royal on $1 JOB to recover most of my loss for the trip.

Back to Rio, still not feeling the play but I managed to play enough to get a 1000 points so I would get that bonus and then off to bed.

Overall, got to see my son and buddy, upgraded cheap flights, comped room, free play, match play, food credits, lost a lot (money and other things), won most of the money back, ate a bowl of soup and some crackers in three days and came back.

So I hope each and everyone one of you have my son's luck this trip and not get what I had.

I'm almost scared to reply because I don't want to get what you had, but all is well that ends well.

Waitress at the D grill said there was a stomach virus going around. Her son was home with it and had basically the same symptioms I had. Seems a bit quick though, I probably picked it up enroute.

Still my first royal on $1 VP and my son hitting two on 25 cent VP within about 24 hours will be the memorable part of this trip.

Getting sick on a Vegas trip has always been my fear.
Well, that and losing all my bankroll, but that happened on my last trip.
