    Hello everyone--

I'm probably overthinking things, but it's my first trip to Vegas, and am stoked about it, and def want to have the best experience.

My friend got as comp rooms at the Westin (generously) for three nights. I'm actually getting in a night early, a Wed night, (I guess I like to party harder) -- so my first night I can book anywhere.

I booked a GO room at the flamingo for $74 all-in (right before their resort fees kicked in).

I'm satisfied - strip view - close to the Westin.

I did think I could get a better deal, though. I was still thinking about the Tropicana. I've seen deals on Hotel Tonight and other apps.

If I could get a room at the Tropicana for $45 plus $20 resort fee, should I take it? I seem to get the impression that the rooms are nicer there. Though the location wouldn't be as good.

Not very relevant, but I also happen to work at Tropicana's corporate headquarters. By that I mean the orange juice company, haha. Would the phonetic coincidence between our brands generate any good will at the front desk?

But seriously, would you stay at the Trop over the Flamingo if the prices were the same, or if the Trop price was somewhat lower?

How do you edit posts on this board, by the way? I can't figure it out. Anyway, I don't have a "strip view" at the Flamingo -- just a normal GO room -- I meant the hotel is on the strip -- which is nice to experience since the Westin is about a block away from the strip.

If you find the Tropicana for $45.00, please share the news. Every time I've priced it, it's double that.

Flamingo has the better location, particularly in relation to the Westin, so that's the one I'd pick.

    Tropicana

Is a very nice hotel and you found a great deal. But I think that the Flamingo is better for you since your friend is located one block away from you.

Both hotels are very nice and I have stayed at both. I think that in Vegas people should choose a hotel near where they like to hang out at.

I love to hang out at the NewYorkNY hotel so I would choose the Tropicana if it is affordable.

You should look at a map of the STRIP. You may have to do a lot of walking to get to your friend's hotel.

Stay with the Flamingo because you are in the middle of all the Vegas action.

All of the front desk check-in workers have been very nice in both hotels. LucyR.

Well, after the first night, I am joining my two friends at the Westin. So there would only have to be one baggage move, and I travel light (will have one carry-on sized suitcase).

It's not like I'll have to be constantly popping back and forth, though yeah it seems like the Flamingo might be more hassle free.

I say Flamingo. I stayed at the Tropicana over my birthday in 2011. I told everyone and couldn't get a dang thing. No room upgrade, not even a deck of cards. Besides, I like the Flamingo better. Stayed there 2012.

I love the Tropicana, so that is where I would stay.

Room quality wise the Trop might be a smidge better than the Flamingo, but if you want to be closer to the Westin, the Flamingo is the way to go.

Being center strip (IMHO) is the best way to go for a Vegas newbie, and the Flamingo also has a monorail station, to take you down to the MGM Grand-Trop area without a super ton of walking or cabs.

The new trop casino is nice, rooms should be good also because of the recent remodel. Flamingo is located in a better spot and I really like the GO room. I'd choose flamingo.

Also, I'm a big guy and walking flamingo to trop/Excalibur is an easy walk. Then you can hop the tram to Luxor and Mandaly. If you ask you should get a bellagio fountain view. North strip is also at your fingertips there.

Thread sounds familiar, but maybe like I suggested before GO Flamingo. Strip view or not they are nice rooms and you are only there one night. You still have to get to the Westin and you are basically right there at it. From the Trop you still have to find a way to the Westin...walk, cab, friends pick you up on the way. The walk from the Trop to Bally's 25 min, then you still have another 10 to 15 to the Westin. From Flamingo, out the back on Aubrie(?) maybe 10 min walk. One night, center strip...you're set!

My very first stay was in the Flamingo. I now know it was an old room in a then unrenovated hote. We were so happy to be in Vegas, and all the sights and sounds that go with it, that we never once thought of complaining that the room was looking pretty tired.

Next visit we stayed in a renovated room at Tropicana and that is my go to place for the first half of my trip each time now. I just love the boutique style of the smaller hotel to wind down before bed, or wind up before setting off for the day.

However, the Go room is a great room at Flamingo, view or not. The location is A1 for a first time visitor. Personally I'd pay for a Strip view upgrade on my first visit. Pick Flamingo ... this time.

Have stayed at the Flamingo twice, once in a craptastic regular room before renovations, and once in a Go room. Loved the casino vibe, but the location was the absolute best. The Go room was great.

I have only set foot in the Trop once during a walkthru to collect casino chips. The casino itself looked kinda dead, and its a little too far down the south end of the strip for my likes, but the newly renovated rooms I saw on Tripadvisor look good. If it weren't so far south I'd give it a try.
