Nice to hear that something will get going there. Although Resorts World may be the most boring, generic brand name I've ever heard.

Be interesting to see if Fontainebleau gets going now, too.

Methinks they'll change the name. Sounds Disney-fied......

Nice to know they are focusing on a large casino instead of it being an obligatory afterthought.

Now there's a thought. Just add a roller coaster and some zip lines to the new plans.

D'oh, somebody already did that.

It's nice to see someone has interest in the place. I couldn't imagine the chaos trying to finish such a huge building after its been sitting for so long. Good luck with that.

That was my first thought. But then I read they actually called their casino at Aqueduct that. And its the name of all their international places. So we may be stuck with it.

Plus, at boring as it sounds, apparently when you hire marketing execs and do surveys, the most exciting name you can come up with is "The Quad"

That one is likely not so bad because so little was done. If need be, they could demo and start over.

Fontainebleau on the other hand ...

Yeah, that's the name of their casino brand, for better or for worse. Resorts World New York, Resorts World Sentosa (in Singapore), Resorts World Manila, etc. The only one without that name is the flagship in Malaysia, which is officially known as Genting Highlands, but it gets called Resorts World Genting pretty often. I think that part of it stems from the fact that most of their properties are in places where gambling isn't exactly looked highly upon, which is why you wind up with these generic names; after all, they don't even call them casinos in many countries where Genting operates, the official parlance is "integrated resort".

WOW!!! This is huge!. I guess Phil Ruffin is one of the few people who came out ahead on the short lived MEGA-Resort phase. Glad to see this parcel finally getting developed.

I wonder if that would trigger Carl Icahn to do a partial finish on the Fontainebleau LV Resort and try to make a run at operating it. With this Resorts project and SLS having money for their remodel of Sahara , a smaller scale version of the Fontainebleau LV resort could really jump start the north end of strip in 2015!

Great news, that property is most depressing in it's current state. What recession? :peace:

The $350 million received for the 87 acre site is the LESS THEN the $365 million Harrah's paid for Barbary Coast and the 4.3 acres underneath the property.

Link (or shall we say Linq) - The Legend of $85M per acre Las Vegas Strip land

To acquire the Barbary Coast, Harrah's Entertainment sent the value of Strip land skyrocketing.

The casino operator is paying what amounts to $84.8 million an acre to pick up the 4.3 acre site at the corner of the Strip and Flamingo Road, the last piece of a 350-acre land parcel. Much of the land is contiguous along the east side of the Strip.

Bittersweet news as I always wanted to see Boyd return to the Strip at that site. However, the North Strip was, is and will always be my preferred Strip area, and I would love to see all three (Resorts, SLS and Fontainebleu) projects successfully executed over the next 4-6 years.

Back in the 1990s, The Desert Inn, Stardust and The Mirage were my favorite Strip casinos. Today Wynn/Encore and Mirage are my favorite Strip casinos.

Hell, I would trade all Harrah's properties between Harrah's through Flamingo including Linq for the retun of Stardust and old pre Harrah's Barbary Coast (not as an owner but as a guest).

There's another place I won't be gaming in. I'm not big on Oriental theme. Nor do I want to pay for that monstrosity. I'll stick to the plainer places like Bally's or downtown.

Genting should be a decent owner. I've visited their casinos in Malaysia and on Sentosa off Singapore and they can do up-market or down-market. I'm definitely disappointed though that Boyd won't be part of it. They're known to offer good gaming and always hoped that they'd take full-control of the Borgata in AC and build out Echelon on the strip and combine their players clubs. Not sure how Genting will be in terms of gaming, in Asia its obviously mostly baccarat and from what I've read the machines-only casino here in New York is all crap....but then again its in Queens so being crap is just keeping with the surroundings :)

I'm really happy to see this. The renderings look interesting and different from any other property on the strip.

Even if you're not excited about this hotel it's good news because the development should help suppress room rates for other hotels. Gamblers should also like having more competition for their gaming dollar.

I agree! While I'm not thrilled with the renderings, and don't know anything (other than what I've read here) about the company, I'm happy there will be more development on that stretch of road instead of empty construction sites! More competition for rooms & gambling money - hopefully we'll all win:peace:
