I played at the D, mostly on slots, for about 2-4 hours. I gave then a chunk of change. I am wondering about future offers their. Probably a good idea to back their next time and give then another chunk before I start seeing offers. I have played downtown before at El Cortez. They send me offers pretty quickly, but I am hesitant to try their cabana rooms. I think the D would be a better place to stay with my wife. I am not to fond of the area the EC is in.

I realize GN is hard to get comps at, I have played their and only get discount offers. I am looking for a place to stay downtown for a change. I need extra room(being in a WC) and the Fremont rooms are way too small for me(already tried one many years ago). I kinda like the vibe at the D.

I played there for about 2 hours(slots) last September and have received offers for feburary and march for 3 free nights,$50 freeplay and $15 food credit.
I stayed there 2 weeks ago on a black jack tourney offer for 3 free nights.

Just call the D. just because you didn't get a flier doesn't mean anything, you will probably get a few free nights. As far as ElCo that was always our favorite place, but when they took out the smoking tower rooms, we don't stay there anymore. ElCo is a lot of walking-3-4 times a day to Plaza and back-but I found out that the D-Fitz-is in a much better location. You will be happy at the D, and miss the ElCo

I'm going in March for 4 nights, staying at Harrahs and at the D. This will be my first time saying downtown. I'm looking forward to it, something different for once maybe will change my luck.

Considering the higher payouts and lower minimums...your luck has already changed. I tried downtown after Sahara closed and I haven't looked back lol.

The new D has a really great vibe and the rooms look great. I really dig the new long bar and the second floor coin slots. My wife and I had a blast when we were there in December.

I'm considering staying there for a night and cutting my MSS stay short my next trip. Let me know how you like it?

Has anyone tried the $50 free slot play promo for showing your Spirit boarding pass? It seems like a pretty good deal although I don't know if it's much of a consellation for flying Spirit, but we got a pretty good flight deal.

I just signed up for a card at the D when I was downtown back in November. I didn't play much and I already got an offer for 3 nights, $25FP& $25MP.

I'm making a special trip down town just for this promo. Its me and 2 of my friends. For $150 in free play between us its too good to pass up. I'll report back. Between my Bellagio free play of $100 and this, it makes my round trip flight from Chicago $50.00. That is if I can turn it into real money.

I like the D. Each time I have been in there it's been busy. I didn't feel the music was too loud but I am in my early 30's. I have used the $50 Spirit free play twice now. As of mid January the players club did not know when the promotion would end. I have not stayed in the hotel so I can't comment on the new rooms.

I get monthly offers from the D for minimal play, and I really dig the joint. I've taken them up on several of them, usually 2 or 3 nights, plus some food and free play. This last trip I called them, and they allowed me to book comp nights even though I was staying on a restricted weekend. Friendly people, fun casino, I think you'll enjoy your stay!

Do you guys think the players club will stay this generous with free rooms or are they teasers to build up buzz?

i'll play the devil's advocate here....i go on a girls trip every other year and for the past severl have been true blue Fitz. Our modest play always got mailings for comped rooms and the staff very friendly. I found the rooms fine, not posh, but clean and roomy. Past Sept we stayed at the D and likely i won't be staying there again

Continuous BJ shufflers and evening dealers new to dealing where we had to pay attention and correct a few times In the evening the music was a bit loud for us, just loud enough making it hard to chat with my girls. The dealers dancing on the blocks was lame IMO

I have some favs at the Fitz that i'm not quite willing to let go, so i'll stop in and see Herman at the craps table and Patrick, now pit boss, but who taught me much of what i know in craps. They don't know me, but their familiar face makes me smile. There is a bank of monopoly machines in the penny slot where i got my slot fix. The cafe always quick service and pretty good food.

I don't like my downtown vegas traditions being uprooted for a modern vibe...it's old vegas for me

Maybe i've just hit a point in my life where i'd rather split a $50 room at the GN for comfort

Last December the D had put back many good BJ games again. They woke up from the crap they had
last sept. Hopefully when back in 2 weeks it is still good BJ tables there. Also glad they have put back a
    24 hour cafe.

I've been staying at the fitz and now D since 2000. I haven't paid from a room the entire time. I was concerned with the changes: night time music is too loud for this old guy, old cozy bar is gone (too many stories to tell), VP at Long Bar is well less than desirable, but many of the same people are still working there from Richard at the long bar to Hugo in the new steakhouse. Also, my addiction, the dueces wild table game, is still there and they haven't changed upstairs too much.

Be there in a week and have reservations for the new steakhouse. Looking forward to it.

But on a different note. I was contacted by a casino host which never happened at the Fitz. Didn't know they even had any.

Six Days, Five Nights at The D

Just returned yesterday from a Monday - Saturday stay at the D. It was our first time staying there. We've stayed at the Golden Nugget, Plaza, Four Queens, and El Cortez tower rooms in previous downtown trips. I'd say the remodeled rooms compare most closely to the Plaza. The furniture, while new, is not of the same quality as the Plaza's (since they didn't score theirs from a high-end bankruptcy liquidation like the Plaza did), but the mattress and bedding are great.

We paid extra for a "deluxe corner king suite." It wasn't really a suite. The room was pretty good sized, had a sofa and small table with two upholstered chairs, a under-counter refrigerator, 32" flat screen, and coffee maker (didn't use it since they charge for the coffee). The bathroom was large with a new counter and mirror, but old fixtures and tile. The tub was odd - a jetted tub with a "hump back" bottom that made it difficult to stand in without slipping. Water pressure and temperature were fine, though the drain was slow. They told us the whole building has plumbing issues due to age of the pipes. Towels were good quality and seemed newer.

The room had wrap-around windows with black out shades that worked well. We asked for the southeast corner (farthest from the stage on Fremont). We were on the 23rd floor and had a nice view toward the strip to the south and east across town and East Fremont. Noise was never a problem, and the in-wall AC unit provided steady "white noise" at night (didn't cycle completely on and off). Odd number rooms face east. The Fremont stage is on the west side (LOUD). Room numbers ascend from north to south. Our room was 2341.

We ate at the grill the first night and were happy with our meals. Each was only about $10. For breakfast we usually just went to the McDonalds which is on-premises. We also went kitty-corner to Fremont for their breakfast buffet, very good for the $6.99 player's club price.

While the D is still a work in progress, they've done much that we liked. The "retro" casino on the second floor has a bunch of full-pay (or almost full pay) video poker. Problem is they are all coin-out, which gets messy. The Sigma Derby is a hoot and gets very busy at night. Downstairs has a great slot selection (John Wayne usually treats me right) and the only $5 Pai Gow I've seen outside El Cortez (goes up to $10 on weekends). My wife had never played and the dealer was great at patiently helping her. The music is too loud downstairs, but that's what us old folks always say. The music in the "retro" casino is softer but can definitely make you feel old!

The staff we talked with were all pleasant and told us that work is ongoing. Hallway carpeting is to be replaced and some bathroom fixtures are being updated. Don't know if they can do much about the pool, since it isn't much to start with and is located at the southeast street corner where folks outside could have a good time gazing in at you (there's walls on the street sides, but only iron fencing on the inside sides).

We enjoyed our stay very much and will stay there again if their rates remain competitive.
