My wife and I are thinking of staying at Luxor. We are curios if anybody has stayed in a pyramid room and has had a problem with noise from the casino below. We will never stay at NYNY again after being woken up every morning by the roller coaster. Thoughts?
I have stayed at Luxor a dozen or more times and have never had any issues with noise from below. There is a "second" floor above the casino that contains a food court and the Imax theater that blocks the casino below. There are some parts of the first floor that are visible such as above the check in stations, but its just a low din that you can hear. With your room door shut you will not have any problems. Enjoy!!
I haven't noticed any, been a while though. Yea, it's not right above the casino, just check in and where the shows and food court are. If you are really concerned get a tower room, they are nicer anyways.
One of the first places I stayed in Vegas was the Luxor. Unfortunately the place has seen better days. Between the bed bug accounts I have read, the alleged structural issues with the pyramid, apparently the ones in Giza seem to be in better shape. Lastly the falling service levels I have passed on the place as a midlevel property. Even with the renovations, I think you can do better unless you are getting comp'd room. Personally I like Monte Carlo for a hotel in the same quality level as Luxor. Luxor sinking post at VT. http://www.vegastripping.com/news/blog/4282/luxor-sinks/
i found the pyramid rooms to be gross very old and stained ,in fact they put me in one and when complained i they promplety moved my to the new tower rooms which are fine. i would stay at ip over the pyramid rooms better location and probaly cleaner
Wow, from all the bad things I hear about Luxor, I must have gotten very lucky when I stayed there. The room was very nice, and there were no noise problems.
The one time I stayed in a Pyramid room, it was on the 6th floor but the door really did shut out all the lobby/casino noise. However, we were near a corner, so what we did hear was the inclinator. It sounded like distant rolling thunder every time it went by and was mildly annoying. More of a bummer, though, was the musty room smell and not-overly-comfortable bed, plus a TV and furniture that had seen better days. I think they may still have wired internet only, too - anyone know if they finally have wireless?
I've never stayed there but my dad has, I believe in 09 or 10 maybe. He said his only complaint was that the room got incredibly hot in the summer due to how the glass is angled in direct sunlight. He said the room would never get cool and he had the A/C pumping constantly and the curtains shut.
