    Hi All,

This has only just come to my attention recently but I am now wondering why I play video BJ / machine BJ (5-6 seater game in Luxor & CP & probably elsewhere) as either from luck/coincidence I have never left a m/c up on my play whereas I have on many many occasions left up whilst playing at a standard table game.

My question is can someone give me their opinion on the positives/negatives of both games based solely on chances of winning.

I know the merits of the m/c V table based on peoples preferences (game pace, multiple hands etc) and gaming style but if we take it on a winning % chance what's the comparisons.

I assume the m/c has a greater house edge?

If so I'm never playing them again and I don't know why I did all those times (I think just pure lazyness)

Anyway thanks in advance for any input received.

P.S. This is not going to be a major issue for me in 3 weeks as I have already become quite good (98.4% success on JoB trainer) so I'm planning on reducing my BJ play anyway and getting involved with VP seeing as I'm seeing many posts of the elusive Royals being hit - I've just got to give it a shot on my next trip.

With that in mind I'm off to Royal Flusher's TR:evillaugh

If I recall correctly, video blackjack machines generally pay out significantly less, often 1:1 even on a natural blackjack. The other rules are generally worse, as well; you'll find restrictions on when you can double, how many times you can resplit, etc. I can't give you exact numbers, but as far as I'm aware, the payouts are objectively worse than at the table.

The regular video blackjack games I've seen are all really bad. Even money on blackjack, only double on 10 or 11, only split once, etc. Basically all the crappy rules rolled into one game. And even though the logical part of my brain tells me the machine should be fair and regulated, the other side of my brain tells me I've seen way too much crazy shit on those machines with the dealer pulling ridiculously good cards. That being said, the first time I ever played the machine years ago I just did it out of curiosity and made $800 from $100 buy-in after like 2 minutes. I never played any machines so after I picked the denom (like $5 or $10) I just hit max bet figuring that is how you bet the whole denom. I didn't realize I kept betting my whole buy-in and won a few hands in a row before I realized what was going on and just cashed out quick.

We saw this other type of virtual blackjack machine at a few places last time including Monte Carlo where we actually sat down and checked it out. It had a virtual dealer (some animated hot chick) and had like 5 or 6 seats on one side facing a screen with the virtual dealer who actually looked at you. It was weird and trippy. It was all electronic but supposed to feel like a table game I guess. The min was $5 and max I think $50 (10 credits) and the rules were surprisingly good for a machine. It payed 3:2, allowed doubling after splits, doubling on any two cards I believe, used a 6 deck shoe that was shuffled once and I believe it said dealt through 4 decks before shuffling. We played for a bit just to check it out and made a little money but the game moves so slow and actually takes up a lot of space on the floor so I'm not sure how great it is in terms of revenue/sqft for the casino.

I think it was this one: http://www.thetpro.com/table-master-eng.htm

I've played this type a few times over the past few years and have actually had some decent success but unless my sole objective was to get really drunk without betting a lot of money I won't play it for too long, I'd much rather play at a table. I've played it at MGM, Flamingo (no longer there), and one of the casinos downtown.

You do have to be careful which button you press though. I was playing with my Dad last year and he was on third base with a 20 dealt to him. He proceeds to accidentally press hit when it's his turn. Miraculously he draws an ace for 21 and the dealer proceeds to bust when they would have had 21 with said ace.

The sit down animated games are not that bad(may vary by location) I played one at Slots A Fun a few years ago that had a $1.00 minimum(talking about grinding it out!) that had pretty good rules including surrender. As far as the BJ on VP styles units, it is not very good. I've played it at Harrah's and the only thing it has going for it is that you can bet as low as a quarter. The only benefit might be for someone trying to practice basic strategy.

Something to remember on those multi-seat video blackjack games with animated "dealers"; each person, including the dealer, is dealt from a seperate virtual shoe. Someone posted about accidentally taking an ace that would have made the dealers hand, because they actually didn't change the dealer's next card at all. Beyond that, the games I've played have usually had decent rules; 6:5 BJ, double any two cards, surrender... Where I live, in Pittsburgh, those video machines and live tables are dealing the same game, with the exception of the individual shoes.
