I just booked thru Allegiant. Package deal (airfare and 4 nights) at the Rio including baggage fees and assigned seats for $392! I couldn't pass it up. I've only been to the Rio once and haven't even gambled there yet but it was cheaper than staying at the Gold Coast. :)

Now I have to figure out how to get to the Orleans and the convention center from there.....

Just walk over to the Gold Coast and take thier shuttle to the Orleans. And if you need supplies for the room, the gift shop prices are better at the GC also. have a nice trip!

We love the Rio. Only thing that prevents us from staying again is the dh misses stepping out the door onto the strip. You won't regret your decision. Only tip I can give you is that we find it to be the coldest casino in Vegas, make sure you have something to cover your arms in the casino....especially early in the morning. Like the above poster mentioned, walk next door and hop their shuttle.

Does anyone know where the shuttle from the Gold Coast/Orleans drops off at the strip now that Bill's is closed?

Also, someone mentioned buying tickets on the strip for 1/2 price Rio buffets? Any advice/directions on where I can get them?

    Rio is underrated.

Always thought the Rio was underrated. One time I was supposed to check into Caesers palace but some type of pipe busted in my room so the desk said I had to stay at rio for free for 2 days until they fixed the issue. I was so pissed at first. Nothing like leaving the hotel and being right out on the strip. I actually loved the place. Great hotel rooms with an excellent view of the strip. Pretty decent casino. Plus found out there was a free shuttle that took you to ballys or Harrahs(Maybe flamingo to but no 100% sure). I would stay there again. Only thing that sucks is that I never go there when I'm staying somewhere else on the strip. If i'm staying at ballys then I never take the shuttle over to Rio. Really can't explain why.

Sounds like the rooms are very different though, some remodeled, some not. From everything I read we are supposed to:

Ask for a high floor with a strip view (I do this anyway)

Stay in the Ipanema tower because most if not all rooms have been recently remodeled.

So, unless I get other fb here, that's what I'll be doing.

I figure we'll probably eat most of our meals at Gold Coast or Orleans because the buffets are usually pretty consistent and affordable.

I'll be at RIO in May fully comped and presumably resort FREE. I never stayed at RIO but i'm OK in either tower as long as the rooms are on a higher floor. I do plan on checking out the Buffet at Gold Coast, much cheaper than RIO. I won't have a car, however, the free shuttle at RIO and the one at GC, goes to the Strip. In case of emergency there's always the RTC bus that i can pick up on Flamingo Blvd. that drops you off at RIO Way and drops you off at Bally's going back to the Strip.

I just booked a room at the Rio for my July trip. 5 nights, Sun.-Thur. for $187.50 + tax. I stayed there once in the 1990s and recall that the rooms were very spacious and included a fridge and coffee maker.

It's a favorite of my wife so...guess where we stay lol! My friend also ONLY stays there. They are generous with future room comps. For cheap eats there is Burger King. There's two buffets. The regular buffet is VERY good and about same price as Orleans. go early as it's a fav with locals. Gold Coast is a good choice for breakfast, average food othertimes, but good values. To get to Convention Centre you could use city transit ofcourse, or take the shuttle to Harrahs ,then the monorail. I usually rent a car now. Maybe not anymore after todays sad shooting / driveby on Flamingo and Strip near Bills.

High room in Ipanema Tower is best. Bring your own K-Cup coffee and tea as they're expensive from the mini-bar.

Not sure when you were last at the Rio buffet, or the Orleans buffet ... but they are not "about the same price". The "regular" Rio buffet is at least TWICE the price of the Orleans buffet.

There are free shuttle buses for the convention from the Mirage. Harrah's is right across the street so hopefully we can just hop over and catch the shuttle.
