What if casinos decided tomorrow that all cashier transactions over a certain $$ amount required the patron to submit a photo id and fingerprints that would be scanned and stored in a company database. For example, cashing any $500 chips or above or any TITO ticket over $500 would automatically require submission before cashing out.

Would this be an acceptable way for casinos to protect themselves from fraud? Would you object or consider it a normal business practice?

they already do this for big chips. always $5k and above and even $1k at some places. they require your players card and they already have all your information from that. if you don't provide a players card, or if the play on the players card doesn't line up with the level of chips that you have, they will not cash the chips.

as far as TITOs there is no risk of fraud since their system can already verify if it's legit and it's as good as cash so it doesn't matter who cashes it in.

Way back when I spent time at Slots of Fun, they required a finger print to cash a $100 travellers check. I didn't care.

If this helps to catch fraud and not make me as an innocent person pay more to keep the casino bottom line black, I don't care.

Based on other things I've read, cashing a TITO that you found is considered theft from the casino.

Is there really that much fraud?

It seems like any system that would go this deep would cost a lot more money than I assume they lose due to fake chips. $500 just isn't that much money in Vegas. That takes 20-40 transactions each trip and makes them 1-2 minutes instead of 20 seconds.

sure, it's theft, it's just like finding a wallet on the ground and taking the cash out of it because "you found it". but as far as the theft being from the casino, that's just because the casino claims that all lost money is theirs. it's pretty shady if you ask me, but that's what they do. if you find a TITO on the ground, you should turn it in and have them look it up and check the players card records and/or cameras and find out whose it was and get it back to them.

A TITO is just like a chip. It is a gaming unit owned by the casino, not another form of cash.

I had a customer tonight who forgot they had money in their machine and walked away. Twenty minutes later the customer is asking for help getting the money back. Fifty minutes after the customer walked away from their machine I'm getting a call for a review on the lost money.

The slot techs spent 30 minutes finding out when and where it was cashed out. I spend 15 minutes getting clips made of the person who cashed out the ticket. Problem solved? Nope. Until we get equipment like they have on CSI in the casino I can't use facial recognition software to tell me this person's name. Moral of the story...Take your Ginkgo Biloba and don't expect miracles.
