    Greetings all,

Just got back from a wonderful trip over Valentines Weekend and took MLIFE up on a stellar offer that included Limo transfers to and from airport, VIP check-in, suite (low end), 2 show tickets and a 500.00 per day resort credit and 700 in free play. You know what..... I used the crap out of it and enjoyed every minute. But wait there is a host involved and he may be feeling screwed......The question is should I care??

So here's the background. I'm a 100-150.00 BJ bettor and my wife is typically a 3K coin in per day slot player. How did I get this kind of offer in the first place. My previous trips have all been losers losing between 4 to as much as 13K per trip but my bet average on my most losingest trip was 100.00 for 12 hours over 3 days. (I like lost evey hand) Slot coin in for the trip was 13K, Loss for trip was around 13K between my wife and I. I'm thinking the actual must have hit the radar...and generated this offer. MLIFE's thinking.....let's gamble on this guy, make him feel special and hopefully he'll drop 20-25K which is about what I travel with by the way.

So we go out on this offer and indulge right??? I register over 25 hours of play at a 100.00 avg bet and slice about 5K coin in on the slots. Less slots cause wife played BJ too and had the 700 in FP that doesn't count as coin in. We eat the nice dinners, use the spa, go to the show and use all those resort credits up.

Well final result is I was 65% over comped...i.e. I was comped up front a value of around 2500.00 and only generated about less that 1000 of actual comps. My losses were less than 3500 which was very close to the Theo.

So here's the problem. They gave me this offer, I took it. I doubled my hours at the tables over previous trips at my usual bet average. Slot play a little down but hey...I didn't ask for this offer. If I were to play to the level of this offer I would have had to be a 300+ avg. bettor for the same duration of time to meet the criteria. There is nothing in my play history that remotely even comes close with the exception that I am still willing to play and lose over 10K on a 3 day trip.

So my host didn't seem to pleased. Not sure I am welcome to return...at least not on an offer with credits. I kind of do feel bad about it but why on earth should I be expected to triple my level of play? To me it was a gamble by MLIFE on development of a premium player that was probably a little over the top. I guess the bottom line is my actual loss didn't measure up this time.

So kind of sad, I like MLIFe, they have been good to me, but feeling the love will never be shown so brightly again.

    Any thought fellow mlifer's

Two words. The first one begins with f, the second one is them.

You overplayed what you usually play. It's their fault for giving you an offer that's bigger than what you normally do. This is not at all like you lowplayed them.

If your offers suffer at that hotel, call a different MGM property and ask for a host. They'll give you play based on what you put in this trip.

    100% agree.

You had a history with them. For some strange reason they assumed you were going to increase your play? If that 13k loss was recent, maybe they expected something similar. I'd take it as a payback for probably being undercomped that trip.

I'm sure your offers will decrease(they shouldn't have been that high as you know). But you are still a player that should get offers in the 1000ish comp range. That is a free room at many resorts.

i wouldn't feel bad. just remember a host is just another salesman, not your friend.

would you feel bad for the grocery store when they have a big sale and have a loss leader item selling for less than cost? would you feel bad buying a car at a used car lot for less than what they gave the person who traded it in after it sat on the lot for a while and didn't sell?

so what, you were overcomped one trip. that happens. nobody plays the exact same every trip and hosts know that. if he was putting pressure on you, he's just a bad host. i'd find a new one that realizes that no 2 trips are identical and sometimes you're going to play more and sometimes less. if it's a corporate offer, he's not on the hook for it anyway.

Some trips you overplay and some you underplay. It all evens out. If your host can't figure that out, they're in the wrong business....

No real pressure during the trip as he was off for the weekend...Just an honest discussion afterwards about how overcomped I was and that any future offers with resort credits would not be honored. He really wasn't being a dick just rather just being blunt that I didn't measure up and he wouldn't honor a future one. Funny thing is; is just the other day I got my survey from the hotel and another offer for the exact same thing for a 300.00 per day resort credit, limo. suite etc.. I guess what he was telling me was no way in hell.........it would be honored. So I kind of get it that the computers in the basement haven't algorithmed my latest play and spit out the new offers, but my question to him was if 8 months or more from now when the offers are out based on my more recent play and corporate wants me back and entices with resort credits (probably of lower value) was he gonna honor it.........and I did not get a response. "Figures"

Ok at least I feel better that he is not on the hook personally due to it being a corporate offer because over the course of my last couple trips he really had been halfway decent to me but I could tell just somewhat disappointed. Maybe he was hoping I would have elevated my play more. If I'd win occassionally maybe I would but I seem to have been on a long losing streak out there. I seem to win more in AC and in West VA.

Appreciate the feedback everyone...keep it coming and weigh in if you like

I'm sorry if you like this guy but your host sounds like a dick. I don't see how its any of his business or in his power to instruct the hotel not to honor resort credit that you received as a corporate offer. Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think he has any such right. Offers are often well above your normal comp rate. They'll send them out to a lot of players similar to you and hope some redeem them but they know everyone won't. It has nothing to do with your host. He didn't put that offer together for you, MLife's marketing dept/computers put it together for you.

What am I missing? What did you host have to do with your trip at all? Other than acting like a dick after you actually gave them MORE play than they should have even expected?

Yeah I'm a bit confused. You booked a corporate offer, and your host got pissed that you were overcomped. And how exactly is he not going to "honor" a corporate offer?

    Is your host James Murren?

I don't know. Most of those offers have fine print that says they can be recinded accordingly due to most recent play activity. So I get it if it involves current ones but not 8 months from now when all current ones have expired and I get new ones. Maybe their computer will recognized that I am done being developed and that I have arrived where I am at and all future offers will primaily be a room or junior level suite and some concert or fight tickets. That is probably what my play warrants and my host did indicate he would allow something like that......just no more Limo or resort credits. My question is the what if......? It costs 500.00 minimum airfare from the East Coast and 1K if my wife is coming too. Why bother if it's just a room. I can be in Atlantic City or PA of WVA in 1-3 hours and get a free room there. If Vegas hasn't realized competition is getting worse and the resort credits offset the airfare and make a trip out there worth while. I'm no High Roller/mega premium player but I'm not a flea either and not afraid to drop 10-15K to have a helluva good time. So I would think someone out there would want me back and entice me with something if I don't show up for the next year after logging 25+ hours at the table in three days at a 100.00 bet avg. Then again maybe not.............

I had a similar experience a few years back with my host. He made me feel that I was overcomped, even though the past three trips were above my average. I did not like how I felt compelled to gamble up to 'his standards'. To be honest, the underlying pressure turned me off to the enjoyment factor.

He did move to another property, but, for some reason, they neglected to assign me a new host. It actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise --> I now book corporate offers through the Player's Club - with no contact with hosts at all now - the desk takes care of all my needs, without a 'hovering' host over me.

My play barely warranted a host, mind you (about $100/hand - mainly Pai Gow Poker), and I did not need any special requests from the host.

I know that Beeejay had discussed this a few years back, when he chose not to use hosts anymore - too much of a headache!

If they offer you a corporate offer, they will definitely honor it - even a very low-played trip will not have any effect on the current offers. It takes a few trips, and/or few months/quarters before offers will change. Even then, a drastic drop is very uncommon, unless you gave them zero play.

I'm sorry, but why do casinos think that a limo is a big f'n deal? Is it a nice perk? Sure. Does it make you feel a little special when they meet you at the baggage claim with your name on the ipad? Sure. That's about it.

It costs $100 bucks or so RT for a limo if you pay rack rate. It probably costs the casino less than half of that. To act like they're giving you the world because they send a limo to pick you up is lame.

Again, I'm just having a hard time understanding why your host would have a stick up his ass about the CORPORATE offers you receive. I would just tell him to shove it, and book the corporate offers direct. It doesn't sound like he's ever going to provide much value to you anyways.

    DO NOT FEEL GUILTY1
They sent you an offer and you accepted.
They knew your action and sent you a very generous offer.Even if it was a mistake, which it may have been, too bad for them.
    Glad you enjoyed the amenities.
I had one trip comped in a suite and got sick day 2.Did not leave my room until the last day.
Explained it to the host.He got over it.

On a side note,I can't figure out a corporate offer like that.My action is four+ times yours and I have not seen anything close to that.
It just confuses me more about MGM.

I was kind of thinking that too that maybe it would just be better to use the corporate players club for my offers. My host made the reservation, reserved my show tickets and set up the Limo. When I asked about dinner reservations he kind of offered but encouraged me to just call the concierge desk so that is what I did 'cause I kind of got the vibe he didn't want to be bothered with that. So I really used the concierge more....3 dinners, spa appointment, flowers for V-day for the wife etc.....I probably would have enjoyed the trip more not feeling responsible to a host. BTW I never asked for a host in the first place. He started calling me 2 years ago after I stayed there for a conference in a room paid for by my company and I dropped 6K. And know his name isn't Jim.....and prefer to leave names out of it.

I'm not sure why it was that good either but I was't complaining. I've probably lost 25K to MGM in the last 2 years so if they were giving me 2.5K I was gonna take it. Maybe you personnly have booked more winning trips or go out there more often and they figure you're gonna come anyway. Maybe they have me labled as some kind of losing patsy in their computer system. I felt my offer is close to what guys like shifter get offered with the exception of I'm sure my room/suite is on the way lower end of what they would offer him but then he plays at a level to get way more comped off the back end anyway.

This is offtopic, but ACGambler, do you mind sharing what types of comps you get at Borgata and how many comp dollars you typically accrue on a trip there (I ask because of your username and avatar)?

I'm in the process of trying to figure out if I'm getting undercomped there...

Also, your Vegas host sounds like a dick, to echo what others have said. I would consider changing hosts.

I usually get a standard room now or one of the bigger ones in the Water Club. I used to always get the Fiore Suite but that gotten tightened up a year ago and now not getting them.. I guess I'd come in on a Thursday and take one and then they didn't have enough for their Titanium players for Sat. night. I have generated as little as 200 comp dollars a trip to as many as 800. I have won there and when I am winning I have pressed my bets and had some trips with a 500-600 bet avg. When losing my bet avg. will hover around 125 or less (like in my vegas trips) and my comp dollars will be closer to 200 for the trip. I can usually earn my black card in 3-4 trips easy. If I don't my host will print me off one anyway.

In another thread from a month back or so, they were mentioning that perhaps losing trips trigger better offers. I don't know if that is true, however, in my case, that may have occurred - I have had over 30+ losing trips consecutively, with about $8K losses in the past year. My offers are 3 days (sometimes in suites), with about $250 freeplay. (With about $100/hand for 5-6 hours/day - about 4 day trips four times a year).

It appears that you do use your host for some extra things, and if that is important for you to maintain one, maybe ask for a new one - perhaps the host on duty can be more useful for you. I also was simply approached and introduced to a host - as far as I'm concerned, that should give one permission to switch hosts - since you really didn't 'ask' for one????

Thanks. Do they ever comp you your tips or on top of your comp dollars if you exceed them?
