Just returned from a long stay at the Plaza. While there a week ago saturday I was getting a coffee at the stand near their front desk. While waiting 5 guys came and spread open plans at the long counter. I did my best to overhear and peek at the plans without seeming too nosy. This is what I came out with:
They are going to re-design the area where McDonalds currently is and open it up with outdoor seating, grass, and shrubbery and make it some type of beergarden. Don't know exactly what that means for McD's. I think they were also talking about running a zip-line either between the two towers or from one to the Las Vegas Club. This meeting was pretty much narrated by the designer of the plans and I think it is the meeting that the amazing Jonathon was at. Not too sure what he looks like but I am assuming he was there.

Unless those were actual construction documents and it was the general contracter talking with subcontractors, design drawings can be radically changed. None of those concepts may be in the final plans or they may be modified in importance. By the time the owners suggest revisions and bids come back to see if costs are within budget, the only thing you can say for sure is that they are considering a remodeling effort. At least that is a step forword.

You hit that on the head, all they have to do is offer the same or better games than everyone else and they'd be fine...meanwhile they dream up more gimmicks that wont mean squat.

actually I thought that mcdonalds was the busiest place in the plaza. Will be sad if they kick them out as that will probably get rid of any crowd that the plaza has (except for the check in line).

again more questionable plans by the owners of the place, they really don't have a clue how to run a hotel casino.

I always thought that the amazing jonathan reminded me of the guy ogre in the nerds movies. haven't seen him in person but from the promo pics that's what he remind me of, lol.

Ive been to and stayed in the Plaza numerous times and not once can I say that I have ever eaten a the Mcd's. Maybe its good for the local crowd, but I would rather go down and inhale 10 deep fried oreos from Mermaids than eat Mcd's while on vacation. As far as I care, get rid of it!

The beer garden concept was in their original plans prior to reopening. I don't see it being much of a success if it actually happens. That sidewalk is frequented by homeless and *********, and the bus traffic in front of the Plaza would hardly make for comfortable outdoor dining. Plus, there is one of these almost ready to open at the other end of the Fremont Street Experience where the Indian restaurant used to be. Once more, Plaza is out of touch.

Yeah, I have never eaten at the McDonalds either and havent considered it a viable option. I do love the Hawaiian/Sushi place there! and I would be in favor of a beer garden!

I agree about the McD's sentiment. I have ate at McD's in Vegas a total of two times. Once at Strat for breakfast cuz we were staying there and once at Mandalay Bay (I think it was) cuz the other guys I was with wanted to eat something fast n cheap. Heck, I rarely eat McD's at home. When I was little, the cheeseburgers were 79 cents and no grease could be found, that has changed dramatically.

Sadly, I'm the minority.... The ONLY time I eat McDonalds is when I'm in Vegas. I can't remember the last time I didn't scarf down a Big Mac before going to bed in Vegas. I have the good sense to at least be ashamed when I wake up with Big Mac remnants on my pillow and in my hair!

    McDonalds works for me

On numerous occassions when I did not have a coffee pot in my room, I would go down to McDs for a senior coffee and a sausage biscuit. Would sit there and check my email or read the online version of the USA Today. Spend enough time to get my free coffee refill aand then I go wake the better half up. A lot of people go to that McDs in the morning.

And why not throw in friendly, top-notch customer service--just for kicks? They would have to turn the folks away.
