Why are CET so expensive in May?

If you check the normal rates (without a players club card) the rates for all CET hotels are really high in May, eve the Quad.

A few things might contribute to that. The weather is awesome in May so it's a popular month. You have a Canadian long weekend followed by Memorial Day, a very busy weekend. What dates are you looking at?

May just seems to be a busy month. I went last year and it was sky high on the weekend, but there was a fight, and an awards show.. and a number of events.

Just go to an MGM property instead ;) they are cleaner anyways haha.

I have gone in May for the last 5 years and never seen rates this high!

I have the Flamingo booked in (got it before rates majorly increased).

The dates are May 16-20, last year I had them comped, had I not the Fab room would have been about $550.

For the same weekend in 2011 I payed (no discount) $550 for the Thursday - Monday of the same long weekend, but that was a Go Room. This year $750 (normal price) for a Fab room.

I found the same thing when I went to book a room at Bally's for 5 weekday nights in mid May. The rates I saw were more than double what I paid last year for the same time frame in May.

In December I ended up reserving a room at the Flamingo for the 5 nights at $215 + tax. And that was fortunate because if I had waited until now the cost would be nearly $500.

As for the people saying rates are higher this year because May brings good weather and May has two holiday weekends, well that's nothing different from last year or other prior years. It's only this year that the rates have spiked so much.

The only reason I can think of is the possibility that business conditions for the Vegas tourism industry are becoming more robust as the economy is improving.

I booked the middle of May for RIO comped for 5 nights. Bally's was only $55 for 5 nights (3 comped). The Quad and Harrah's is comped and Paris and Planet Hollywood is showing with huge discounts. Yes, i have a TR card but only have 471 points, i am a low roller. The bottom line IMO is either stay and gamble at CET properties or MiLIFE. I frequent just about all the Strip properties, but in my case i stay and gamble at CET.
I always go in May, best time of the year, but unless you commit to one or the other, especially in late April-May to middle Sept.-Oct., the deals can be hard to find outside of the cards. I decided to stay at RIO because it's not only comped, but the RIO shuttle and/or RTC bus is just a hop, skip, and a jump to the Strip.
As a TR card holder i basically had most CET properties at my disposal even in May for nothing or semi-comped. That's what i call rewards. You reward THEM..........and they reward YOU.

I would be the same level player as you, maybe a touch higher but no comps anywhere, for any CET casino, for any month!

My booking was using my TR card and the guest's that I am going with, although they had very little action - a few dollars or play - we got a better rate using both cards.

    Not sure why I don't see any comps...but I don't.

    Here's a follow up question:

I am traveling with my brother, we had to use both TR cards to get the better room rate; will be both get credits for the room cost, or just one of us?

Also, I don't want our cards linked for gambling because I pay for both of our spending money, are they now linked?

Is this using a rewards card?

Where are you flying out of?

Are you being helpful or just showing off?

May is traditionally a busy month due to some of the best weather of the year.
Looks like there are 3 conventions from the 5th -9th that will bring in about
60K people total. Not sure when your dates are but that could be a problem.

My dates are (and have been for the last 5 years) May 16-20 (Thursday - Monday of the Canadian Long weekend).

Prices without TR offers are WAY HIGHER this year than previous years.

If someone can figure out CET's rates please let us all know! :rolleyes2:

I just booked the second week of May at Bally's and it was cheaper to book without my TR card number than it was the TR number, WFT?!? Explain to me why it is cheaper for someone with no play history than it is for someone who has played their before?

It is because right now their semi-annual sale has greater percentage off that your (or mine) TR discount.

    Does it make sense? NO.

However, knowing this tells me a few things: You are not a 'High Roller' - if you were your room would be comped. This is not an insult, but my point is this, now if you don't want to play that much at CET you won't hurt your ADT as they don't know that you are there (I am guessing that there computer system will not match your reservation to your TR account without your account being on the booking).

Having said that, you will then want to use the regular line (not the TR line) when checking in, and not hand them your TR card on check-in.

It still doesn't make any sense, and the rates are still really high for May.

Conventions in May - worth noting is that "REcon" moved their convention dates up this year by 2 days to include Sunday.
This may or may not have adjusted that weekend... We too traveled last year in May and was planning a May trip this year so I have been watching prices...
CET did send us comp days for most all of the month of May, we are not "high-rollers" by any stretch.. We spend almost exclusively at MGM. I do not understand the logic.
You are correct, I looked and most all CET on those dates are inflated. (note if you go on REcon's travel site, CET stays are much less - just google it).

Hopefully this gives you some answers... albeit it doesn't make it any less expensive... The Palms however is offering a hell of a deal these particualar dates.. just a thought?? Good luck!

Donny....you are going thru the "reservations" link..to enter your dates...right? I just ran a mid May weekend for hubby...low plat & son-in-law - low gold and for 5 nites...3 were comped and 2 nites (Fri & Sat) @ 39.00 @ Bally's. Now, I am Diamond & got 5 nites comped in late Mar - April 2 with NCAA / Spring Break & 2 conventions. Hubby got the 6th nite for us for $39. We were unable to get Caesars or Paris free on this trip though. We see many ups & downs all the time. We were thinking of going over NYE 2013...showed all comped up till January 1 & then they shot up....now will re-think that trip. Good luck!!

Well, i am just the opposite. In May, especially when i'm going May 12-17, the rates are almost $500 for not using the card at Bally's. Same thing at RIO, without card almost $400. At Caesars without my card, the rates are out of the Solar system. I used my TR card and had my choice.....i decided to take my comps instead of the Quad and Harrah's, and bypass Bally's which was only $55 for the total week. The reason i went to Vegas in Nov. and stay at Imperial Palace, was to put points on my card for this coming May. I had zero points on my card before Nov. because i was too sick to go and my exp. date expired.
So i don't know why you and i are showing rates at the opposite end of the spectrum in May. Maybe if your name was CET skybank instead?......LOL.

@DonnyC, I will still use my TR card at check in at Bally's since they treat me so well there and not have to wait in line.
I am not a high roller and I could of received a lower rate if I would of booked earlier in the year but I had to wait for my travel buddy to get their tax return to book! :rolleyes2:

Because I am already booked in from May 16-20, I can only use the 'reservations' link and then the destination option (as opposed to entering my actual travel days).

Right now I have no Tier credits (as they reset some time). My last trip was April 2012, and I would be a low gold.

Also, May 4th is a big fight night at MGM Grand with Floyd Mayweather. So i'm sure that weekend will gather lots of people, especially Floyd with his connection between Las Vagas and L.A.

May...the above mentioned conventions...Kentucky Derby, MGM fight, Cinqo de Mayo, Mothers Day, Victoria Day (Canada big 3 day weekend), Memorial Day (US big 3 day weekend)....and to top that all off, April can be hit or miss on pool weather...May begins the daily 80+ degree temps that all the northerners (like myself) dream of all winter. All of the cold weather state people spend the winter dreaming of May in Vegas. I know I am counting down myself. My car is currently covered in ice...May can't come soon enough. ;)
