I'll be staying at the Monte Carlo in a couple months and was looking for some advice.

Best VP bar to play at?
    Best restaurants?
Minimum BJ in the High Limit room?
    anything else?

If you want bar food and or a huge selection of beer the PUB is the place. Otherwise the only other restaurant that I eat at is Dragon Noodle. Although I'm a huge Monte Carlo fan I'm not a fan of their restaurant selection with the exception of what I mentioned already.

Minimum BH in the HL room...$50.00 a hand, if the table say $100 and you ask if it is not busy they will drop it to $50.00

Bar or on the casino floor there isn't much good in the way of video poker at Monte Carlo.

As said above: the restaurant selection is pretty limited. The Pub has good bar food, they have a decent food court.

Lots of places to buy water, snacks and drinks for the room at Monte Carlo: there is a CVS right out front, as well as an ABC and Walgreens across the street.

Is the only video poker bar the one next to the sports book?

if so, probably go to aria for that then

Stayed there my last 3 trips.

The video poker bar next to the sportsbook is horrible. Normal strip bartop odds, but they only comp beer and wine. Last trip they made me pay for my maker's mark and my wife's pina colada, both of which I got comped when I was on the floor playing craps. Wasn't a big deal to me since I charged it to my room and got it comped later, but still...what the hell?

Sometimes the HL room has $50 mins. You just have to look...normal is $100, and it's normally not crowded. There are no dealer stand on 17 games except in the HL room.

Dragon Noodle is the stupidest name for an asian restaurant ever...but the food is surprisingly good.

Brand isn't worth it...same prices as Gallagher's and Craftsteak...not as good on the food.

You can walk to Aria without going outside.

They have two low end suites that are usually about the same price. The Monaco Suite is nice in that you get a second bathroom. The spa suite is cool if you're on a high floor because your tub is in the window.

MC is the worst of all the MGM properties for video poker pay tables.

Here's a good tip: Install FourSquare on your phone and check-in while there! Create a fake account if you want like I did.

It gets you the happy hour specials anytime at the Pub ($1 sliders or wings and 2-for-1 drinks)

Also 2-for-1 drinks at Diablos and a free california roll with your order at Dragon Noodle.

Doesn't matter if you expect it all to be comped or have F&B credits...it just lets you use less of them.

I think MC has more FourSquare specials than any other casino. I was ready to make good use of them since we were staying next door but didn't use any. I did use the one at Serendipity at Caesars for a free Frozen Hot Chocolate with your order which my girlfriend wanted to get anyway so saved around $10 in RCs.

I agree with BlackJackNut...we always enjoy the PUB for a brew and a bite. Have four stays at MC and have always had a good stay. We are staying at Bellagio in April but will make a trip to PUB.
The casino is usually clean and not overwhelming. We often found $5 tables earlier.
One note however, unless this has changed, starting at noon Fridays the music changes for the weekend in the casino and pool area to a spring break atmosphere - not our thing but we usually stay Sun - Fri anyway.
Enjoy your stay, think you'll like it.

Other folks have stayed there more recently than me, but I'll throw in my two cents.

For VP, try the bar by the ignite lounge in the front. There's usually a decent view at least :wink2:

For food, Dragon Noodle is very good. I ate at Brand when it first opened a few years ago (I'm assuming its still there) and it was decent.

The HL room is small, but relaxing and quiet. so if you're comfortable with the minimums, go for it!

The video poker machines at the bar @ Ignight are good and they are progressive. I hit it last time I was there for almost $2000. During the day, Chester is a great bartender. During the night, Anthony is also great. There is also a bank of progressive video pokers right in front of the sports book (not bar top) that usually have a pretty good amount of $$ in them and seem to hit quite often. You are right by the drink station as well, so you will get cocktail service. I have had much better luck bar top at Monte than Aria. The bartenders at Aria are rude and act like they are going out of their way to get you drinks and they always remind you the mins to get comped drinks. Why don't you watch me play first and then see you don't need to tell me because I play max credits, LOL. It never fails!!

Also agree The Pub has great food. Also really like Dragon Noodle and during the week they have a lunch special for $9.99.

I like the MC for a number of reasons.

I get looked after well there (and would be less well so at other casinos in the group), and I find the place relaxing, easy to get around, and has a good combination of facilities that work for me.

I don't mind the bar by the sports book - yeah odds may not be best in town but there is a super bartender there who is always entertaining (tall dark haired guy - name escapes me right now), and I always get what I want to drink there incl spirits. Plus you can see a lot of the tvs in the sportsbook area from the bar. And I have 2 Royals there so the bad odds havent been a problem:beer:

The pool is good, and having easy access to the Pub from the pool is great.

Diablos is fun - the margaritas are enormous and the food is fine for Mexican at a bar. Dragon Noodle very good, Brands I quite like the atmosphere and the food is usually good, and staff attractive:wink2:

Location is also good as I like that end of the strip - and the walk up to Bellagio etc can be a good break from debauchery from time to time.

Don't miss the Diablos Happy Hour specials, as determined by the Wheel of Sin. Fun stuff!

The bartender at the sports book name is Scott. He works mornings/afternoons. He is awesome and very entertaining. We often play there just to chat with him.

if you play blackjack, there are 2 tables on the side by the food court that offer really good rules, including surrender. usually $25 min.

The rules at Monte are no better than any other MGM hotel. Surrender is available everywhere but Excalibur. Monte uses 8 decks mostly, so they're actually a little worse than most other MGM hotels.

They're actually pretty significantly worse than some. They don't have any dealer stands on soft 17 tables anymore except in the high limit room. You can find that game at some other MGM properties at $25.

Mike, do you know which MGM properties have the better rules (6 decks, stand on S17)?
